Bon soir, mes amis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

DAVES ! (...?...)
Avatar 9:08pm Dave Mandl:

@RRN63: Welcome!
  9:11pm Carmichael:

I've arrived. Grilling out here on the coast. Good evening, Dave and all.
Avatar 9:13pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, Carmichael
  9:20pm bloopy:

sup dave! listening from new zealand
  9:27pm JakeGould:

Hello, Dave.
Avatar 9:29pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there bloopy, Jake.
  9:34pm JakeGould:

Hang on, bloopy. Bloopy, hang on.
9:39pm Eric the Half a Bee:

Alright, buddy, pull those potentiometers over, this heahs the Jazz Radio police. Freeform radio jock not announcing at least 10 minutes worth of information on every jazz track they play? Under the Phil Schaap international rules of talking till the listener's mind explodes, you could be penalized having to play 3 annoyingly commercial jazz-rock fusion tunes. Kenny G anyone?
Avatar 9:40pm Dave Mandl:

I plead insanity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm George of Troy:

Hiya Dave. Sounding great this evening, as usual.
Avatar 9:41pm highpressuredays:

Hes not that cruel as to subject us to that.
  9:42pm Carmichael:

Play Misty for me. Or some Tull.
Avatar 9:43pm Droll:

. o O ( I just knew the flute solo was coming... )
Psyche-out, jazzers!
Avatar 9:45pm Dave Mandl:

Thanks, George. Evening, highpressure, Droll.
Avatar 9:47pm northguineahills:

Sweet, David Tudor!
  9:53pm Carmichael:

Sauce going on the wings. Just a heads up, in case you smell it. Great noise music to chill to.
Avatar 10:00pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, @ngh. Carmichael: Thanks!
Avatar 10:00pm Droll:

Tuba music? You've sunk to new lows.
10:02pm Eric the Half a Bee:

He could French horn us.
Avatar 10:03pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: That's very good.
Avatar 10:07pm Droll:

I encourage you to seek out new lows on air -- I'm all about bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm pacific standard simon:

Tuba music? What's wrong with tuba music?

Good evening Dave, and all little echos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm pacific standard simon:

Any instrument that's good enough for the Bonzo Dog Band is good enough for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm pacific standard simon:

I did like this song a bit. Just don't play "The Logical Song".
Avatar 10:30pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, pss.
  10:30pm Phillip.(Brooklyn):

Supertramp:-) do you know how many times the classic rock station plays "the logical song" and "take the long way home"
  10:32pm Phillip.(Brooklyn):

How about "give a little bit" I like that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm pacific standard simon:

It never fails, BTW. If I have to work on Sunday, I miss the first half of this show because of work. If I DON'T have to work, I miss the first half because it's a good day to cook supper for the family.
  10:35pm Phillip.(Brooklyn):

Good late night mr mandl:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm steve:

hi Dave. love hearing new electronics like M&A and Echologist on your show.
Avatar 10:38pm Dave Mandl:

Evening, Philip. That's all the Supertramp I have, unfortunately.
Avatar 10:39pm Dave Mandl:

Thanks, Steve.
@pss: Hey, you need to feed your family.
  10:41pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Nice set, Dave! Tonight, it's my Music To Put Laundry Away By.
  10:41pm Phillip.(Brooklyn):

Well? How about an oldie that's never played Kansas - fight fire with fire
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm pacific standard simon:

There was this one tuba player who used to march in the St. Stupid's Day (April 1st) parade in San Francisco -- he had the inside of the bell of his instrument painted with a perfect reproduction of the cartoon of Dr. Zarkoff from Wally Wood's Mad Magazine parody of Flash Gordon -- the one where Zarkoff is pointing and shouting, "GOOD LORD!" It was a thing of beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm pacific standard simon:

I need to revisit old 10CC. It's what I've been doing lately with Squeeze.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm fleep:

@pss Like this? bit.ly...

And greetings, Dave.
Avatar 10:45pm Dave Mandl:

Hey there, fleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm pacific standard simon:

@fleep - yep, that's the one! I wonder where that tuba is now, or if it was repainted?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm pacific standard simon:

Today is the 71st birthday of Roger Ruskin Spear! It seems that his leg-shaped theremin (used in the Bonzos song "Noises For The Leg") still exists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm fleep:

To properly savor a Listener Comment, swirl it around in your brain a few times to release the aroma, then sip, do not gulp, the Comment, swishing it back and forth in your consciousness to release all the flavors. Then spit it out, this stuff is nasty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm pacific standard simon:

We strive to avoid taking things such as that personally... ever and on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm pacific standard simon:

Upward & awkward!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm fleep:

Did I type 'spit it out'? I meant, 'swallow it with gusto.' It was a typo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm pacific standard simon:

You wouldn't believe the hokum I've swallowed -- thanks, Hollywood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm pacific standard simon:

I KNEW it -- Don Cherry on trumpet!
Avatar 11:09pm Droll:

The interwebz has the most remarkable ability to remove any form of humor from written comments and concentrates all that lost joy into cat videos.
Avatar 11:10pm Dave Mandl:

@pss: Correct!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm pacific standard simon:

@Droll - you have merely to fine-tune your interrossiter!
11:12pm Pete L in Columbus Ohio:

great show as usual
and you are so right
that Android app is a life saver.
more Cherry and Shepp always!
Avatar 11:13pm Droll:

pss, Nice try, but I see what you did there referencing "This Island Earth", Island Boy!
Avatar 11:15pm Dave Mandl:

@Pete: Thanks. Yeah, the app is great. I also use TuneIn Radio sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm pacific standard simon:

Here I sit
Broken hearted
Paid my $7.70
And missed the ferry.
Avatar 11:21pm Droll:

Wow -- $7.70 to walk-on? I used to take my motorcycle on for $8.40. That was always a blast because they drop the rope, let the bicycles get a decent head start, and then Death Race 2000 begins when they wave all the motorcycles to go.

I miss the island, but not adding 55 minutes to a 90 minute commute when I missed the ferry. Or missed a plane... Ohhhh, it's a way of life there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Tome:

Hi Dave hi all , at home now was also listening earlier on my phone . ( for like only the 2nd time ) but ..no place like home,, great show DM as always.
Avatar 11:22pm Dave Mandl:

Hiya, Tome. And thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Tome:

so if I listen to a 3 hr show on my phone with the app.. is like using say how much data ( I am tech savvy but new to these facocta phones ) 3hrs is ~ to about 170mB data wise? ( like a 3 hr show listening @ 128k or less [ not more I would say[) ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Tome:

..should maybe give that one to the KenZo .. oopsy ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm fleep:

Tome, a downloaded 3 hour show is usually 176-177 mB, I raid the archive a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Tome:

oh ty for confirming I am just so into listening now ,, need 98% of the brain working while the other 2% is who knows where ..
Avatar 11:39pm Droll:

I always catch fleep roaming the archives looking for shows where Gentle Giant was played. No -- wait -- fleep always catches me roaming the archives doing that. But to be fair, fleep looks just as lost as I do, he just swims faster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm pacific standard simon:

Fleep, Droll... just say Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm pacific standard simon:

To be fair, I work and live here, so I take the ferry maybe once every quarter. Like this Wednesday, when my wife and I are seeing Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds at The Paramount.
Avatar 11:51pm amEdeo:

Hello, is this the Glenn Jones program?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm pacific standard simon:

You wish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm pacific standard simon:

Or yo' mama.
Avatar 11:54pm amEdeo:

but i have all these taylor ham tubes that i was waiting for radio for!
Avatar 11:55pm Dave Mandl:

*I* wish. How's it going, old man?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm pacific standard simon:

Awesome CD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm pacific standard simon:

Free Frosty!
Avatar 11:56pm amEdeo:

ham is going! I'll catch you soon, Mandl. Have a safe trip home.
Avatar 11:57pm Droll:

Excellent genre-surfing tokenism tonight, Dave. You covered a lot of ground and a gazillion instruments, and even squeezed in Supertramp... Well played.
  11:57pm Philthy woman:

great show, what I got to hear of it, thank you, misto facto!
  11:58pm Philthy woman:

WFMU thinks we can do sinple math, not always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm pacific standard simon:

Yeah, what Droll said. Wonderful music to riff on. Wish I could have given you more notice on Roger Ruskin Spear.
Avatar 11:59pm Dave Mandl:

Thanks, folks. Have a great week and a great 4th!
