Now we're talkin'
Avatar 3:17pm Cheri Pi:

Cecile, while you were out we discovered our inner snood silkblessings.com...
Avatar 3:20pm steve:

hey failures!
Avatar 3:20pm Cecile:

oh, dear lord. That dog is so much cuter than I will ever be. It's like a supermodel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm common:

i'm in a trance.
Avatar 3:26pm Cheri Pi:

If I start now I can probably crochet Edith Megadeth a befitting snood just in time for the holidaze.
Avatar 3:27pm Cecile:

which she will either try to eat or herd.
Avatar 3:32pm Cheri Pi:

She will throw it off with great drama, only to drag it back again and beg for on-sies like a Friedmanesque Sisyphus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DCE:

I would like to wish everyone a nice day.
Avatar 3:35pm Cheri Pi:

Oh heya DCE :)
Avatar 3:36pm InBrkly:

I just realized that this is maybe the only program that keeps the same color scheme every week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Tome:

I can't believe it's not butter....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm DCE:

no, no, Scott Williams of the pale yellow, and Brian "Turquoise" Turner prove that false!
Avatar 3:39pm InBrkly:

I love wire but the two times I saw them they played for about 30 minutes and walked off so....hmph.
Avatar 3:40pm Cecile:

that's pretty much what they do.
Avatar 3:41pm InBrkly:

@DCE: I was blinded by the colors this morning on DK's show and it struck me that this show had the same colors every week, but yeah I forgot about BT.
Avatar 3:42pm Cheri Pi:

I took Cecile's advice and switched to Explorer, then her show was B&W.
Avatar 3:42pm Chris from DC:

I will gladly indulge you right up to beersies in roughly 90 minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm tim from champaign:

Chris from DC...you can indulge Fabio while indulging yourself with a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Everybody wins then.
Avatar 3:48pm Chris from DC:

TfC: If I could I would be doing just that. Great Divide and/or Schlafly IPA looking lookling likely. But first Parson Sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm tim from champaign:

Both good beers. Schlafly has really picked up their quality as of late. I had some of their Coffee Stout last weekend. Pretty good.
Avatar 3:52pm Cheri Pi:

Beersies?$@#! there is only 1 lone beersie in the CP/HQ fridge- but it's mine at 5:15.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm tim from champaign:

Boxer Lager has shown up at the local party store. I dig it pretty good for a Sat. afternoon beer crushing yellow beer. $6 for a 12 pack; $16 for a 36 pack. The price is right. beeradvocate.com...
Avatar 3:57pm InBrkly:

I love beer but I gave it up for bourbon and the occasional scotch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm DCE:

@tfc, that first review of the Boxer is ridiculous.
Avatar 3:59pm Chris from DC:

Headed next door to the office in a bit. They rotate the taps weekly. Unfortunately have to miss this week's stout tasting. Bourbon is also a fine thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Ike:

Did somebody actually say they used Internet Exploder for something?! That's like the Michael Bolton of browsers. Although I admit IE 9 & 10 are not as pitiful as earlier versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm tim from champaign:

@dce - yeah, that's pretty good. Something tells me there's some wise acreing in that review.
  4:01pm earrie:

re: backgrounds

Firefox has a plugin named 'Greasemonkey" that makes changes pretty easy. You can create a new one for the namespace 'http://www.wfmu.org' with a one liner: "$('body').css({'background': '#black'});" to make the bg black and toggle it at will.
Avatar 4:01pm Cheri Pi:

IKE- it comes in handy for a few random things. Don't worry Chrome is my default browser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DCE:

Helios would be proud
  4:02pm earrie:

One of these days I'll post mine at the shared site..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Carmichael:

Bocka bocka, everyone. I have no idea what that means. Thanks for the beersies alert. The local boozer makes a "Slow Ryed" that's lip-smacking.
Avatar 4:09pm steve:

nice QBert pic Carmichael!
Avatar 4:10pm Cheri Pi:

I played a lot of Qbert in my time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm northguineahills:

...as did I
Avatar 4:12pm steve:

i remember in vivid detail the day i got QBert for NES at KMart
Avatar 4:12pm Cecile:

Yeah, I have to Ike because I can't dowload anything but Firefox, and FF doesn't play WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Ike:

There was even a terrible Q*Bert cartoon on CBS back in the day.
Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

Qbert had a great cameo in Wreck It Ralph.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Ike:

Cecile, whaaaat? Evil work computer? Tried a portable browser on a USB stick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Mike East:

firefox plays fmu for me. am I special? (I hope so)
Avatar 4:15pm Cecile:

Yes and yes and the second didn't work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm tim from champaign:

Wreck It Ralph was really cool. QBert's swearing get's me every time.
Avatar 4:18pm Cecile:

"I speak Qbertese!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Carmichael:

Wow, look at all the QBert remarks! I just thought of it this morning when I was logging in. My grey matter works in the oddest ways ...
  4:19pm earrie:

Er it's a 3-liner:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('body').css({'background': 'black'});

namespace is http://www.wfmu.org
and prefs>included pages is http://www.wfmu.org/*

It's convoluted, but not difficult,.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Rich in Washington:

Three Mantras is one of the very few CV albums that I don't own. I didn't even recognize it. It does kind of remind me of Richard H. Kirk's later work, though.
  4:21pm Dave in PA:

sounds like a moog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm tim from champaign:

Me too, Rich. I've got all their records from that era except for Three Mantras. I don't recall ever seeing it either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm common:

beast in space is pretty much a cheapie sci-fi porn.
Avatar 4:27pm Cecile:

he had talent and beauty and wealth, and threw it all away.
Avatar 4:28pm Cheri Pi:

I'd throw it all away too, like yesterday's mangled snood.
Avatar 4:29pm Cheri Pi:

Lots of European copies of 3M: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 4:30pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 4:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Snood Mangler.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm tim from champaign:

Good tip, CP. I can see that ending up in the 12" Dance bin on accident. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it there too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm northguineahills:

RTP is totally stuck on snoods..
Avatar 4:36pm Cheri Pi:

but they are wont to cover unsightly scars... and humps.
Avatar 4:38pm Cecile:

wow, is this done in Minneapolis?
It sounds like downtown St. Paul at lunch
  4:39pm Mandoo:

I like this Skywalks
  4:40pm Dave in PA:

Mickey's Diner!
  4:41pm nic:

this is super / i love old boy a brilliant film (1st)
  4:55pm Mandoo:

Hey, did I hear the sound of a man biting into a gyros?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm common:

Avatar 5:01pm johnforz:

discogs says '74
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Whosondephone:

That Talk over track sounds Lo-Fi to me compared to weeks prior.
Avatar 5:01pm Chris from DC:

I wish people would stay out of my cube when Tatsuya Nakatani is on. That is all.
Avatar 5:01pm johnforz:

it also says the LP goes for over a grand....
  5:02pm Mandoo:

Hey Fabio, do you have any songs with a lot of chewing sounds? I always have found that funny.
Avatar 5:03pm Cecile:

Innova is from Minneapolis
Avatar 5:03pm Cecile:

  5:03pm Mandoo:

Has anyone ever seen the Japanese horror movie "House"? I did recently--it was pretty wild and wonderful.
Avatar 5:04pm andymorphic:

there are skywalks in toronto? where?
  5:06pm earrie:

Broad brush of 'cold weather interiors'.
Like waydowntown
  5:07pm Mandoo:

Hey Fabio, you turned me onto nick and I am greatful. I then turned a good friend onto him.
Avatar 5:08pm Fredericks:

I missed Tatsuya Nakatani! Was is any good?
  5:08pm Mandoo:

Feel like I am on here a lot right now, will sign off from the board and get back to work.
  5:08pm iris:

I saw I loved it! Great soundtrack and colors.
  5:09pm iris:

Oops...I meant to type "House"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Stanley:

@Mandoo before you go check out Language Removal Services
I think it'll be your sort of thing
  5:12pm Mandoo:

Hey Iris, I thought it was great in every way. So creative.
Avatar 5:13pm Fredericks:

I saw I loved it! Great "House" and colors?
  5:13pm Mandoo:

Thanks Stan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm tim from champaign:

I think Place To Be might be my favorite Nick Drake songs.
Avatar 5:18pm Chris from DC:

Beautiful set here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm dale:

the hipster douche creatives who used nick drake in tv commercials kind of ruined him for me, but enough time has passed to start enjoying him again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Matt from Springfield:

Strength Through Drake! Thanks Fabio, that's one of the loveliest songs from one of my fave albums.

With Julie's show and the Surface Noise playlist, Bryter Layter is getting a lot of good "press" here today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm northguineahills:

I tend to agree w/ Matt & Tim.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Carmichael:

Aah, I missed the Drake set. Good thing I have everything he's ever done. I just want others to do the heavy lifting ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Always agreeable, NGH! I would agree w/ you and tim, and Chris from DC as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm tim from champaign:

I'm glad Fab is playing songs from Time of No Reply. I (wrongly) assumed this was a record company cash-in record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm northguineahills:

Wow, Fab, thanks.....your shit is always awesome, but the meandering Nick Drake is verily welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Matt from Springfield:

@dale: I would much rather learn about new music from WFMU than commercials, but I first found several artists through commercials, including the "Pink Moon" VW commercial--what a strange, haunting yet breezy acoustic piece. Rolling Stone IDed him by name based on that commercial, and a world opened up to me.

In fact before I "tuned in", that was the *main* way of finding really good artists (VW commercials from the early 2000s, Nick Drake, Trio, ELO) and even Vashti Bunyan from some advert shortly after one of her reissues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Matt from Springfield:

@tim: It's a great anthology. There have been so many reissues since then I can't keep track, but Time of No Reply is a great collection.

@NGH: "Meandering"! Another great descriptor for Nick's style. I like the term "sparrow's whisper voice" used for his vocal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm dale:

matt - i had other music in the village, so was pretty spoiled learning about 'new' artists
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm northguineahills:

@MAtt: Same for me. The reissues came out about the same time, and the Wire also starting making noise about him. It was a perfect storm.

Related, that minimalist (in pop proportions) group, Arp, came to my attention via a commercial. I can't stand that song b/c of it, but their (his) other stuff totally works for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm dale:

is other music still there? i used to go there after a few drinks and spend a hundred bucks no problem - oh, to have a regular job again
  5:34pm LovecraftDude888:

I'm a massive Nick Drake fan. Met Joe Boyd in May at the film screening he did at Nitehawk Cinemas in WBurg. was keen!
He signed my Fruit Tree box set, Sandy Denny box etc. I was like, far out!
Avatar 5:34pm steve:

i was also introduced to him by those VW commercials... hard to find interesting music in pre internet, record store free suburbs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Matt from Springfield:

I'll get some whisky and toast to you, Nick. RIP.
  5:35pm LovecraftDude888:

I notice Spotify offers the digital complete Nick Drake box now, with more recent discoveries and Tow the Line and the later discovered tracks, etc. and family tree tracks, etc. Thank God I bought Fruit Tree when I did! it's getting expensive.
Avatar 5:36pm steve:

dale - other music is still there. its still my favorite record store in the area. only store thats almost guaranteed to stock every new release i want.
  5:37pm LovecraftDude888:

Nicks' Blues Run the Game ain't none too shabby neither!
Avatar 5:37pm Cecile:

didn't Robin Fredericks write Been Smoking Too Long?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Matt from Springfield:

@steve: You got my number: "pre-internet, record store free, suburbs". At least certain creative commercials, though commercial in nature, open up great art to "the Great Un-connected", pardon mon français.

@LovecraftDude: That is keen! Peachy-keen! Without Sandy or Nick here, Joe Boyd is a great person to meet and sign those albums.
  5:37pm LovecraftDude888:

Other Music gets some bad raps but I like it, I haven't been
inside there in a few years though.
  5:39pm LovecraftDude888:

yeah it was great to finally shake hands with Joe Boyd,
one of my heroes of course. I also met Robyn Hitchcock
again 2 yrs. ago when he and Joe did the spoken word
and music show at Le poisson rouge. robyn liked my "black
Ray Bans" hanging on my shirt..."I like those glasses"!hiaha!hoo hoo
  5:40pm Dark Cloud:

I would gladly give two years of my life to Nick Drake...if it were only possible.
  5:40pm LovecraftDude888:

I asked Joe Boyd though if he'd heard of Winter Hours, the band,
and he hadn't!! I was bemused. puzzled. It's too bad since it would have been cool if he'd have had produced them years ago. Ah well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Ike:

I don't buy many CDs lately, but I still stop by Other Music for old times' sake and browse whenever I'm near E. 4th St. It reminds me of the 90s when there were record stores all over the Village. Sigh.
Avatar 5:41pm david_:

Weird, wild stuff!
  5:42pm LovecraftDude888:

When I first walked past the shuttered Tower Records I was like now this is depressing! I had some stupid job interview a month after it closed or so, and walked past and was like this sucks bigtime.
  5:43pm LovecraftDude888:

Normans' Sound and Vision was good too, for its time, but i think they closed as well. urghh.
Avatar 5:45pm steve:

Norman's moved to Williamsburg.
Avatar 5:45pm david_:

I miss the days of hitting up Other Music and the Tower across the street in one go, Ike.
  5:45pm LovecraftDude888:

I had to drive over to some fruity shop in Hicksville LI
to get Dr. Martens today....it's a tradition I guess, nowhere
else to get them in the awfulness of Suburbia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm northguineahills:

I just started buying records again this month (thanks to being employed the last 5 months), and I'll finally make the record fair for the first time ever! (always have been broke or out of town every other time).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm northguineahills:

@david: me too!
  5:46pm KP:

Have you played Nick Drake's mother, Molly Drake. The cd is quite good and sounds amazingly like him.
  5:46pm LovecraftDude888:

DAvid...yeah exactly. I heard Norman's was gonna move to
Bklyn but haven't checked to see if they did indeed move.
I think I read someone saying it wasn't too great at the new
location though.
  5:47pm LovecraftDude888:

yeah Nick's mom was quite a talent herself. also his sis
Gabrielle as an actress sometime singer, and chick with
purple hair on the old TV show UFO!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Matt from Springfield:

@KP: Love Molly Drake! Her songs contain a certain kind of wonder, no wonder Nick and Gabrielle got their style from her.
Avatar 5:48pm david_:

We're gonna have to move to Japan, land of disposable income, radiation and physical media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Carmichael:

Tower Records began in my hometown. I will always remember going there as a kid, listening to 45s, checking out the cool posters and bongs, and talking with the ultra-cool staff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Matt from Springfield:

@david: It often seems that way, but the seaweed's always greener on the other side of the pond...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Matt from Springfield:

What a time for Tower Records, that's the ideal kind of record store they prob strayed from over the years. And BONGS!?! For tobacco use only!! ;)
  5:53pm LovecraftDude888:

I used to live at the LI Tower in Westbury in college, my friend Johnny O used to work there and used to swing dance with the chicks that worked there! on the sales floor. any of you guys ever attend the swing dance nights at the WTC years ago> He supposedly DJ'd those a lot. Gulp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm northguineahills:

Wow, Clay Pigeon is late!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Matt from Springfield:

I thought this was new bed music for Fab at first--'twould work VERY well as that! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Carmichael:

On one block they had Towers of Books, Records, Posters, and Clothing (featuring the 'mile of Levis"). As their sign said at closing, "All Things Must Pass."
Avatar 5:55pm steve:

Tower was the single hippest place where i grew up, not that that's saying much. can't imagine there was anyone else in my neighborhood buying Maximum Rock N Roll...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Carmichael:

Hey Fab, you're playing filthy hippie music. Yay!!
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

he sounds a lot like Sal Valentino from the Beau Brummels
Avatar 5:56pm Lucy:

Lucy checkin' in!!! aha! I see you're all in a twilight zone hippy trap! yeeeesh! (shudder) : )
Avatar 5:56pm Lucy:

the incense! it burns my eyes!
Avatar 5:56pm david_:

I remember wandering into Norman's in the '90s, new in town, not knowing it existed. Many happies ensued. LOL Matt, I forgot all about the bongs in Tower Records, though that probably comes with the territory. They sure don't have those on itunes...
  5:57pm LovecraftDude888:

I remember some old Gap store on LI in the 70s that had
a weird corrugated metal sales floor thing on risers that you walked up the erector set steps like, to buy jeans. Really cheezy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Now YOU are talkin', on mic, Clay Pigeon!!
Avatar 5:59pm Cecile:

I have Vampyros Lesbos soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Blin-ded by - the Vampyros-Lesbos!!
