  12:05am Steve-O:

Hey Therese! How's my favorite nighttime DJ tonight? =)
Avatar 12:06am KP:

it's the Rice Krispies Show with Snap, Crackle & Pops!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

Singles Going Steady has arrived...yay!
Avatar 12:07am BadGuyZero:

Hiya Therese!

Was that Real Kids cut from Norton's series of covers of Rolling Stones songs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Therese:

Hey BGZ- yup, it was!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Therese:

And hello Steve-o, KP and Ken!
  12:18am Kevin:

We come for the Jean Terrell-era Supremes, but stay for the skin tag talk.
Avatar 12:22am KP:

It seems to me i type words as I hear them in songs more often than most.
  12:23am blee:

You have Mr. Lee on a 7"?!? Oh, I'm so jealous.
  12:27am Kevin:

I have the 7" of their follow up "I Shot Mr. Lee" on the unfortunately named Triple-X label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Tome:

elllo Therese ello kiddles !! ,, yea Scooby doo doo doo it's 7" time yea !!
Avatar 12:29am KP:

One thing about CBGB, the reference to this guy was hilarious.
  12:31am blee:

I shot Mr Lee is the same tune w different lyrics, right? I heard it a couple years ago. Strange, but cool that they would parody their own song. Pent up studio frustration.
Avatar 12:38am Droll:

4 miscues. Does it count as a miscue if it sounds better at the wrong speed?
Avatar 12:39am KP:

And to keep the station going in general.
  12:39am Kevin:

It is, totally inessential but a fun curio, there is a Teddy Vann cover on the other side. Unfortunately not "Santa Claus Is A Black Man."
Avatar 12:40am KP:

Is this song about Keith Emerson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Matt from Springfield:

The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Tonight (Because It's Still Night)...
Hi Therese! Hi everyone! FEEL the surface noise and cheer for SGS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Tome:

I was thinking the same thing KP ,, apparently not ,, well NOT that "clear" anyway > bit.ly...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am Matt from Springfield:

"Mr. Lee" on 45, followed by "Denise"! Too bad I missed that moment live!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am pacific standard simon:

Hey Matt, whatchu doin' up late?
Avatar 12:53am KP:

I knew it wasnt "The Nice" but just now was first time i noticed the word "speed" in there so clearly. Those cats didnt mess around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Matt from Springfield:

Hey PSS!
I'm also off of work tomorrow, and working longer days in turn for the next couple months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Matt from Springfield:

Love this "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass"! Always reminds me of something from Yes when I hear it.
Avatar 12:55am KP:

Oh and thanks Tome, that was interesting. "The Nice" was the supplier, apparently. Next time im over there, I'll know.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Matt from Springfield:

Wow - psych-ish rock Monkees cover!

@PSS: Splendid! (Dig those passwords!)
@KP: Excellent! Let's all meet up on playlists tomorrow.
Avatar 12:58am KP:

  12:58am Kevin:

That was right after the Small Faces left Decca and signed with Andrew Loog Oldham's label, no surprise he let that be.
Avatar 12:58am Whooda Hellameye:

Tomorrow is today on the East coast. October 21st only comes once a year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am Matt from Springfield:

@blee: Or else we're all just refusing to show up to work! ;)
Since it was already a holiday last week, I chose this Mon to be off - keep up the Therese/amEdeo streak!

@KP: Deal! And some Jim Price and Scott W after.
Avatar 1:00am KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am Matt from Springfield:

@Therese: Even more exercise when you're playing 78 discs! Ask Mac!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am pacific standard simon:

I'll be trying to figure out how Destination: Out is going to deal with playing singles only.
  1:02am Kevin:

Never knew Singles Going Steady week provided such a good core workout.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:02am Ken From Hyde Park:

If anyone's looking for holidays, Oct. 21 is Trafalgar Day in various Commonwealth countries, says Wikipedia.
Avatar 1:02am KP:

Probably Liz whilst i am moving car as per NYC parking regulations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Matt from Springfield:

I love Trafalgar Square, so that will be celebrated in the US this Monday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am pacific standard simon:

My days off keep getting punted around -- had to work Sat. & Sun. this week.
Avatar 1:04am KP:

With piegons?
Avatar 1:06am KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am pacific standard simon:

Pigeon pie and driving around in circles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am Matt from Springfield:

Let pie-gons be pie-gons. Eat your pies, so they're gone...
Avatar 1:09am jug line:

I saw a documentary on that all female mariachi band, serious drama there. Senorita seniority, child care, discrimination against female mariachis, funding...serious drama in addition to simply being an artist which is traumatic enough!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Matt from Springfield:

Wanda Jackson!
Avatar 1:11am ham hauler:

That Wanda Jackson is just indecent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am pacific standard simon:

This isn't the version I've been playing all these years...
Avatar 1:21am egal:

This morphed into James Brown's "Lickin' Stick'. Odd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Matt from Springfield:

All right, Box Tops & Alex Chilton!
Avatar 1:27am KP:

Therese, just put those 45s on the changer and come over and chat.
Avatar 1:28am bottomless bra:

I think I completly wore out my first 7" Itsy Bitsy Tennie Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini...I remember finding my Dad's breaking point with that single.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Matt from Springfield:

Sing it, Gladys & Pips!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am David L.B. is RRN63:

...45s sound different than 33&1/3rds...I used to know that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am David L.B. is RRN63:

...I'm glad yts knight too - think I'll try & sleep again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Matt from Springfield:

And now you can know it again, RRN63! :)

Ha ha, this is a good one! Bill actually took this to #4 on the charts, or somewhere high up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...makes me realize I ain't listened to last Mr. FineWine podcast yet - he did instrumentals...
Avatar 1:37am KP:

First single i remember buying myself was "I Think We're Alone Now."
  1:38am Kevin:

The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band certainly gave it their all to back up the Cos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

Deep fry that bacon fat and you'll get some nice chicarones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am pacific standard simon:

Do the cardboard records in Mad Magazine specials count?
Avatar 1:41am crawlspace jockey:

@KP Your a bad boy (and an old man) :) Googed "I think We're A;one Now" Found Tiffany doing her thing with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow Kevin, didn't know they were the backing band on that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- now that's interesting KP...acquired 45s (& that's the archaic term we used @ the time) as hand-me-downs & used & such - but don't recall buying any new! Not sure there was anywhere to do it in smalltown NorthNewEngland...& pss - there were cereal box tie-ins, like a Banana Splits 4-song EP! - even flexis on the back of cereal boxes you'd cut out...
  1:43am Kevin:

They backed Cosby on Silver Throat and Hooray For The Salvation Army Band, certainly the highlight on both records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Sally Army a co-write w/ Hendrix - ?!??
Avatar 1:45am KP:

I meant the Tiffany version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am pacific standard simon:

Yeah, my sisters had one of those cereal box ones -- Bobby Sherman. And I've still got one that was bound into an "adult" magazine -- some porn model discussing his "qualifications".
Avatar 1:45am She Ate My Candle:

Huh uh, righttt....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am Matt from Springfield:

LYNN COLLINS! This is that sampled song!
It takes two - to make a thing go riiiiiight / It takes two - to make it out of siiiight!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'there's a time to help the sinner - but not before the sin's begun'...read about it but - maybe heard it once??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Matt from Springfield:

This one's circa 1970 or so.
Avatar 1:48am Moral Code Ring:

Sly and the Family Stone would plain melt a 45
Avatar 1:49am egal:

Matt: it's another morph of a James Brown song "Think"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52am Matt from Springfield:

The Hardest Working King in Soul Business was the engine behind a lot of soul variations, I'm sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cosby album Wiki has the answers, but I can't hotlink because it won't do the ' ! ' on the end - so - Bing:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am Matt from Springfield:

Goooooooo WFMU Friendship Society and Kenzo!
It remembered that I faved this song on Fiveash's show, all the way back at Valentine's Day!
  1:57am Kevin:

All I know is I was incredibly disappointed when I bought Cosby's Disco Bill album only to discover it was more of a soul parody and not a disco record.
Avatar 1:57am BadGuyZero:

Someday I'll get my 7-inch singles Tumblr up-to-date.
Avatar 1:58am Bullwhip the Backseat Driver:

You know they all gave themselves high-fives when they agreed on the name "The Impressions".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am Matt from Springfield:

The Impressions are a fantastic name, though high-fives hadn't really developed at that point. Low-fives were well established (see: Flip Wilson), so they almost certainly gave each other some low.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am Matt from Springfield:

Don't skip that!
It's "Bacon Fat"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...soo - probably the Physics meant you could engineer Bass easier on a 45 ??...George Martin recalling the Beatles asking him how American R&B & others got that bass on records w/out the needle jumping, & he admitted he was stumped - & there were LPs that wouldn't even play on my crap player sometimes: if album too long or too heavy...or something - I remember knowing by looking @ them...I'm still getting off on Black Sabbath on CD!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Matt from Springfield:

Mmmm, luscious Betty Harris. Melts in your heart, not in your hand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- seriously Matt - how singing & arrangement & playing come together...bet she sang @ Church...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: That's a near certainty! She's truly a treazh!
Avatar 2:13am BadGuyZero:

There was a whole run of LCD Soundsystem's "Losing My Edge" 12-inch single that was pretty much guaranteed to make needles jump because of the bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another thing!: I think the 60s Renaissance demonstrates that if you make the Medium affordable - great music will be made & great sales figures too (unlike keeping CDs @ $17 & wondering why you didn't sell music) - granted the Economy was great then, if all the rest of Society was in turmoil in the 1960s...
Avatar 2:14am Desert Lagoon Party:

Rabbit. I remember scotch-taping nickels or quarters on the needle arm, (depending on the level of bass or degree of warp on vinyl records)
No better memory in my life that sitting in the Pontiac Tempest listening to Black Sabbath on the 8-track with cheap Mexican weed smoke reducing visibility to near zero.

Recently found isolated tracks of instruments including guitar and bass tracks of Black Sabbath "Into the Void" very interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- well - now people mix Bass crazytown - so I wonder (?) if that LCD's not a case of trying to mix digital era bass to vinyl & it not working...
Avatar 2:17am KP:

Therese, just get out all the longest 45s, hey jude, McArthur' Park, paradise by the dashboard light ... the latter recently graces these waves. Seemed to top out at "forever."
Avatar 2:17am Panty Inspector from Cherryville, NC:

Therese's show got me to wondering which died first: real music or the 45 RPM. Kind of a chicken or egg question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am Matt from Springfield:

"Absolute Beginners", on Virgin. But at least it's got 7" going for it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- the isolated trax thing is interesting; makes you realize the Mix we know is but one possibility...
- oh yeah! - curlicues of vinyl behind a weighted needle...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: The early cut-off "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" that Joe McG played. My family's jukebox used to have a Steely Dan "Deacon Blues" 45, that also cut out early to fit the time length.
Avatar 2:22am Whooda Hellameye:

Matt that is obscene to fade out early for time limit... but then again there were those horrible fade in and outs in 8-track and cassette that spanned track and side changes. Really pathetic.
Avatar 2:22am BadGuyZero:

I had a few 8-tracks that had a song on it twice so that there wasn't minutes of silence at the end of one of the tracks. I hated when 8-tracks had a song split across two tracks.

:song fades out: KCHUNK :song fades in:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am blee:

Avatar 2:25am youz and mezz:

Yeah Roxy Music!
Avatar 2:25am BadGuyZero:

No mistaking the "Virginia Plain" intro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25am Matt from Springfield:

Woooooo!! Old quirky Roxy Music! Almost thought this was Cockney Rebel at first!
Avatar 2:26am KP:

Quite nice.

  2:27am Nick:

Wow, this version sounds different from the LP version! Great show Therese.

Eno. gottcha. That makes sense.
  2:31am jason in shanghai:

therese, got you tuned in shanghai, china. keep the hits rollin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am Matt from Springfield:

Ahhh, Sophia Knapp! Olivia Neutron Bomb's doppelsinger!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Matt from Springfield:

@Subterrarium: Eno...is always the one. That's how you remember!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another reason Singles might have a different Mix was they were often released @ different times...
Avatar 2:33am Nerf Batons for the Police State:

Hello in Shanghai. Don't invade us. We're good for it, really, just gives a couple of weeks until next payday.
Avatar 2:33am KP:

Sophia Knapp? Sounds pretty cool/.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...hmm - w/ the record moving faster - that's more 'information' going by the stylus?...& bigger grooves?...I have no idea...
  2:36am Nick:

@RRN63-Yeah, I was just looking online to see if the 45 version of Virginia Plain was a different mix, but couldn't find any info.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wanna sleep - & she breaks w/ the Nuggets-y stuff...
Avatar 2:39am KP:

I had my picture taken with Phil May in July. Saw them in London. Amazing.
Avatar 2:39am Brazilian Pretzels:

The wider the distance between tracks provided higher fidelity. Higher fidelity recordings were shorter in time (length) due to the physical limitation of the disk diameter.
Avatar 2:39am KP:

They did NOT do Midnight to Six!
Avatar 2:42am Whooda Hellameye:

I prefer this scratchy Wings to the new McCartney crap out this month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am Matt from Springfield:

Odd Sox? Maybe they won't notice, with you carrying that Lunch Box.

Wings instrumentals RAWK! Best one since "Zoo Gang"! And the "Walking in the Park with Eloise/Bridge Over River suite" single under an assumed name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am Matt from Springfield:

"Walking in the Park with Eloise" was actually written by Paul's dad, James, years before. Nice of Paul to release that as tribute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- is it crap? Sorry to hear. I liked SirMacca's 'Kisses on the Bottom' thing of Jazz Standards...
Avatar 2:46am Stray For Hire:

My opinion isn't worth listening to but I've seen McCartney peddling his latest on Jimmy Fallon and elsewhere. He offers his best and to me it sucked eggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Matt from Springfield:

Claps sent digitally for amEdeo - welcome!
Avatar 2:46am KP:

I heard the rap on it was it sounds like XTC, which to me is not much of a rap.

Well the remembrance cards prob have small copies of saints' paintings, it's not so much "hanging out" with your friends. In fact playing with those in a dollhouse sounds even more creepy...
