You win the perfectly topical award tonight.
RIP Lou: "Thank you".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am pacific standard simon:

I'm planning on going to see Rocky Horror for the first time in over 30 years. It's showing at 8:00, not midnight, which just goes to show.

Like losing a giant balsam fir in the forest.
  12:07am Everythingispop (London, ON Canada):

Thank you Therese. It's been a tough day. RIP Lou
  12:08am sweet cheri:

pss, i just love the rocky horror picture show..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Matt from Springfield:

A magnificent balsam fir of music history he continues to be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am pacific standard simon:

My favorite Lou solo records in chronological order: Transformer, Coney Island Baby, Blue Mask, New Sensations, & New York.
  12:08am dave:

Very moving opening, thanks Therese

  12:11am sweet cheri:

g'morning therese and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am pacific standard simon:

@cheri - so do I, but time can make you forget...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Matt from Springfield:

@Tome :)

I found it amazing when I first heard this song: Joe McG played it to begin the July 4th episode, and followed it up with an older doo wop song also titled "Coney Island Baby". That's Lou Reed in general: "where were you when you first heard..."
  12:13am Kevin:

I really enjoy the self-titled "Lou Reed" from 1972 and the Rock And Roll Heart album more than anyone probably should.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am David L.B. is RRN63:

...heard about it on my break from work listening to Glen Jones - it's a thriftstore & it happened a guitar got donated - played & sang 'I'll Be Your Mirror' to no one...
Avatar 12:15am BadGuyZero:

I used to frequent a music forum that was overrun with people asking "What's the song in _______ TV commercial?" The regulars made a pact to always reply "'Sister Ray' by The Velvet Underground."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Awww, that's as fitting a tribute as any. Bless you.
12:17am Bob in DC and/or VA:

Hey there Therese! RIP Lou Reed, but long live WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: It sounds great, I already want to run off and buy that car!! But, WHICH ONE?!?!
  12:19am trish:

The one track com radio plays and one strangely self-censoring station that can't possibly be from around here struck the word, 'head'. Do you get
'giving head' on all crap-com-radio in the USA?
  12:19am KP:

Congratulations, Therese!

  12:20am sweet cheri:

i'm off to bed now,, night all & have a happy safe halloween! see you soon therese & pss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Matt from Springfield:

Was that you, KP? Hooray!

@trish: I've heard "giving head" on commercial radio, if it's from "Walk On The Wild Side". Not sure about other songs less well known.
  12:22am KP:

'Night, Cheri!
  12:22am sweet cheri:

night kp as i'm off to bed =( sweet dreams
  12:22am trish:

I won't listen to the station that censors it. Couldn't believe my ears when first I heard it censored.
I nearly shit my pants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am pacific standard simon:

Oh no you shouldn't do that don't you know you'll stain the carpet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Tome:

I think when some clueless top 40 folks finally "get it" is when they sensor it... after so many years...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Tome:

....censor even ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am pacific standard simon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Therese:

Good evening, everyone! Thanks for stopping by. And thanks to Bad Guy Zero for putting me over my fundraising goal. And thank you Lou Reed for being your cantankerous, genius self. RIP.
  12:29am Pete:

God bless WFMU. And you, Therese, for being literally the only radio station in the universe with the balls to play "Sister Ray."
  12:29am sweet cheri:

ohh kp will you be going to the halloween parade in the village on thursday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am pacific standard simon:

This pumpkin porter tastes like a combination of licorice and some kind of cleaning fluid. As a final beer of the night, it's just the thing to keep me from wanting another.
  12:30am sweet cheri:

have a safe halloween therese & kp.
Avatar 12:30am BadGuyZero:

Oh boy! The music that startles Therese!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Therese!
All right, thanks BGZ! And thank you KP for your frequent contributions! And all pledgers! And all listeners! And Lou Reed!
  12:31am KP:

It was BGZ who hit the goal. We all get assists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am pacific standard simon:

Tomorrow, I'm listening to the infamous "Amp Tapes" for a pure Lou guitar hit.
12:33am Bob in DC and/or VA:

Not the only one, @Pete, but one of the few. I've also heard "Sister Ray" on WPRB, the second greatest station on earth.
Avatar 12:34am BadGuyZero:

Longer than "Sister Ray?"
  12:34am that diabetic guy:

Sorry to hear about Lou reed. But the classic rock station I use to listen to way back in the 80's and 90's use to play "take a walk on the wild side" so many times it would have turned and normal human being into a serial killer
  12:36am KP:

First thing I thought of when I heard about Lou was Therese talking about the fill in keynote speaker at RadioVision. The speaker was supposed to be Laurie Anderson. I'm still only guessing that she did not show ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am pacific standard simon:

Sorry to hear that, dude, but "Wild Side" is to musical deviants what "The Joker" is to pot-head retards.
  12:40am trish:

I think 'Walk on the Wild Side' is a unique case study in radio com craptacular. It illustrates bundles.
  12:40am that diabetic guy:

I know "Hendrix" and "the who" and "yes" but I swear to god if I heard it one more tine than the 9 times they played it a day I would have turned into Hannibal Lecter on silence of the lambs
  12:43am that diabetic guy:

The tears only two other songs I would kill if I heard anymore
Hendrix - purple gaze
The doors -break on through
  12:45am that diabetic guy:

I am a child of the 1980's I grew up on
Def leppard

Nick Cave met the Devil at the crossroads and made a deal -- his soul for John Cale's mojo.
  12:48am Robert:

Great stuff so far Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am pacific standard simon:

Agreed. This is my favorite "Therese" yet (they change every week).
  12:58am KP:

Great PJ Harvey
  1:01am KP:

Most played out song on commercial radio in ny is no question Behind Blue Eyes. After that Money by PF.
  1:03am KP:

I was reminded of this last night on long drive as I remembered that I forgot to hook up iPhone for FMU cruising.
Avatar 1:03am BadGuyZero:

  1:08am Steve-O:

Hi Therese.

I've been thinking about donating for at least a few weeks now, but unfortunately, I don't have a credit card or PayPal account of my own..... =( (hopefully my mom doesn't mind me borrowing one of hers.)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Steve-O - It should be possible to send a check though postal mail, if you want to try that.
  1:13am Steve-O:

@Ken: I guess I could try that, but I wanted to send a personal note, too......would they accept one in writing? =)
Avatar 1:14am BadGuyZero:

Thank you Therese for playing three hours of great tunes every week! I've discovered so many fantastic musical acts via your show. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you to everyone else that helped Therese reach her goal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am pacific standard simon:

I think this song must be for you, BGZ.

  1:20am Steve-O:

@BGZ: BTW, man, kudos for helping put Therese over the top.
Hopefully I can donate soon as well.....=)
Avatar 1:26am BadGuyZero:

It was fortuitous timing on my part.
  1:27am KP:

So Therese, my background is telling me to ask you if Laurie Anderson did not make RadioVision and ... if so, did that make you and others realize something was imminent. This is not for publication. I am now what they call in the business a layabout.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am pacific standard simon:

Bed is calling me. A star for this episode, to remind me to hear it later. Nighty-night, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Therese:

I can't speak for anyone else, but in retrospect, Laurie Anderson's last minute Radiovision cancellation makes a lot more sense.
  1:41am dave from knoxville:

hi therese. i try to plan my sleepless nights on sunday. if i can't sleep i at least want to know what therese is rocking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Therese:

Dave! Hi!
Avatar 1:44am BadGuyZero:

Hi Dave!
  1:45am KP:

Yes it was first thing I thought of. You know we just moved into East Village area. I went our when I heard it. There was nothing going on but really everything around here is a monument to him. This station included.
  1:46am KP:

Dave that is hysterical! I do same thing.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:47am Ken From Hyde Park:

I think I heard "Zombified" on Beavis & Butt-head, but not this version.
  1:47am dave from knoxville:

hi dudettes and dudes. i tuned in for some calming music to help me drift off to sleep. but sleep is for sissies anyway, right?
Avatar 1:53am BadGuyZero:

@Ken: That Alien Sex Fiend video was featured in an episode of "Beavis & Butthead."
  2:03am Steve-O:

@Dave: Good luck, man.....=)
Avatar 2:04am BadGuyZero:

Yes! "Send more cops" was from "Return of the Living Dead."
  2:08am KP:

Avatar 2:09am BadGuyZero:

You need that merry-go-round music from "The Lost Boys" soundtrack.

  2:19am KP:

The guy in charge made a version of Hollywood Knights minus Tony Danza. Just by taping it off HBO and skipping him. Clean edits.
Avatar 2:19am BadGuyZero:

Linnea Quigley and Jewel Shepard - who both were in "Return of the Living Dead" - were in that Revolting Cocks video that I was in.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:25am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hey, it's that song from Nivarna! Nivarna rules!
  2:27am KP:

I recognize Shepard but can't place Quigley.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:31am Ken From Hyde Park:

When I was in college, a guy in my dorm room had the Bella Donna album.

  2:44am KP:

Even on radio, that hair is too much.
  2:45am KP:

Who is?
Avatar 2:48am BadGuyZero:

Linnea did the dance in the graveyard.
