Hiya, Duane. This sure is sweet.

Moulton! (Hi Duane)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm tim from champaign:

Hey Duane and Duaniacs!
  12:07pm Cecile:

Is this guy still alive? He should go front Kings Go Forth (not wild about the singer)
Avatar 12:08pm Duane:

Hello Robyn..Jan what's goin on? Great to see you again Tim!!
Avatar 12:09pm still b/p:

Hi, D. Hi, D., Ho!

Man, the J in the B song is so familiar yet I'd forgotten all about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm robyn:

i got your premium last week duane. so awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm robyn:

also awesome - going to see my bloody valentine on friday. YAAAAAY. i'm so excited.
  12:11pm Cecile:

Screw Thicke, this guy has a voice for the ladies...
  12:11pm Cecile:

Tell me more abt this rec
Avatar 12:11pm Duane:

Thanx Robyn...MBV wow!! Enjoy that...make sure you bring good ear plugs..they will give em a good whacking!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm robyn:

i was wondering if i should bring earplugs...i guess it wouldn't hurt.
Avatar 12:14pm Duane:

Cecile: Shintaro is a current artist. He used to front Yura Yura Teikoku. His solo stuff is all in this vein..really quality stuff!
  12:14pm Cecile:

I would wear earplugs if I were a block away.
Avatar 12:15pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

The sun is out and Duane is back!
Avatar 12:15pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Bring earplugs, trust me. Unless you like going to sleep with a loud hum in your head...
  12:15pm Cecile:

He's smooooth.
Avatar 12:16pm still b/p:

Speaking of Thicke....I was late to the video for Blurred Lines -- after it had already stirred the blowback. Goshamighty....then he plays dumb about why it might be offensive...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm robyn:

allright y'all convinced me. somewhere in the future a doctor is thanking the duaniacs for preserving a smidgen of the hearing i have left...
  12:17pm Cecile:

Thicke is kind of like his name. He's a big pothead.
  12:19pm Cecile:

I pulled out my earplugs to hear Die Kreuzen, and 2 days later my ears forgave me.
Avatar 12:20pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I saw the George Duke/Stanley Clarke band at the Palladium in the mid 70s...
  12:23pm Marmalade Kitty:

Kick ass tune!
Avatar 12:23pm Jshatan:

Hello all! Those crazy Filipino teens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm tim from champaign:

Cool! I was hoping Duane would do a George Duke homage. Thanks Duane!
Avatar 12:23pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

RIP Mr. Duke
  12:24pm Cecile:

I'll miss his music, but I'll really miss his unsung appearances. He knew everyone and worked with everyone.
Avatar 12:25pm Jshatan:

The Duke of Funk.
Avatar 12:26pm Sem Chumbo:

He played on a string of Zappa albums, that's where I heard him first.
Avatar 12:27pm Michael:

Saw the Duke/Cobbam band in college. He was quite the cool dude.
  12:27pm Cecile:

Both he and Q started in jazz, but I wonder why Duke's pop path was derided by many while Q seemed to do no wrong?
Avatar 12:28pm still b/p:

Duke memorial service, including a jam, will stream live Monday.
Avatar 12:30pm Jshatan:

That was some serious keytar.
Avatar 12:30pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

That's a really good question Cecile
  12:32pm Cecile:

Nobody would call Q a sellout, he was "adventurous". But I heard Duke called a sellout all the time by the jazz and rock press.
Avatar 12:32pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

The bomb German chocolate cake!
  12:33pm Cecile:

Hall of Fame!
How was it working with him, Duane?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm tim from champaign:

I picked up George's "Don't Let Go" & "Follow The Rainbow" albums before I knew anything about him. The covers looked cool and the song titles sounded great. I'm really glad I picked up the records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm robyn:

cool song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Caryn:

Have yet to see the "Blurred Lines" vid. All I know is, there's some controversy for some reason. My aversion to Thicke is preventing me from being more informed.
  12:35pm Cecile:

He was a man of the music-listening people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm robyn:

@caryn i feel the same way re: "blurred lines." and then around the same time justin timberlake released his "take back the night" song and i just turned my back to both of them knowing that if i engaged massive irritation would be inevitable.
Avatar 12:38pm Jshatan:

The hilarious thing about the Thicke video to me is that the song is so irritating that even with the...erm...*visuals* I turned it off after about a minute. How dumb does he think we are?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm robyn:

what are the visuals?
Avatar 12:40pm Jshatan:

Naked women, essentially.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm tim from champaign:

Was your article on Third Wave in issue 34, "The Jazz Issue", Duane? www.waxpoetics.com...
Avatar 12:42pm Duane:

Yeah that was the one Tim
Avatar 12:42pm steve:

i missed the Good Doctor but Small Change and his guests killed it
Avatar 12:42pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Muskrat Love?
  12:42pm Cecile:

Nothing wrong with that, unless they're just objects or being hurt.
I haven't watched it because the clothed people and the hook are all over tv anyway.
Avatar 12:42pm Duane:

yeah Jennique
  12:43pm Cecile:

ITA with Steve.
Avatar 12:43pm still b/p:

Nearly naked women as mindless, voiceless playthings/accessories/ornaments who bop and display around the band. The tradition continues.
Avatar 12:43pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Oh, I see it now on the playlist. Lyrics are a little different, no?
  12:43pm Cecile:

Why would you turn it into Muskrats
  12:44pm drewo:

Thanks for another great show Duane. Even Muskrat Love is a joy to hear!
  12:44pm Cecile:

And no satire like Robert Palmer.
Avatar 12:46pm Duane:

Yeah it's a strange one that cover. I think they must've gotten skeeved by the original goofy lyrics. It also predates the America cover
  12:46pm Greggor:

Woohoo Chris Cohen! I love this album so much! Cheers Duane!
  12:47pm common:

diggin' monad!
Avatar 12:47pm still b/p:

And Palmer was slammed, too. So for an artless, witless, vacant piece of playtime, Thicke should take all the sah-LAMS that come.
  12:47pm Cecile:

Can you play some of the Dan? If it works for you, that is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm tim from champaign:

My brother-in-law is telling me to check out Island recs era Robert Palmer. I'm extremely dubious. Is it worth checking out?
Avatar 12:49pm Duane:

Robert Palmer "Sneakin sally" is great
Avatar 12:50pm Jshatan:

OK, you've done the George Duke tribute - when does Eydie Gorme get her due?
  12:50pm Cecile:

I never warned to him, but love Addicted to Love. He has terrific taste in covers and is tasteful, so you may love it.
Avatar 12:50pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 12:51pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Sneakin' Sally through the Ally has the Meters on it, it's a great record, it's Palmer's first Island record
Avatar 12:52pm Jshatan:

Sneaking Sally is pretty good, but doesn't top the Lee Dorsey original. Palmer in those days was very enthusiastic about a lot of great music, got great bands (Meters, etc.) to play on his records and sang pretty well. For me, his version of You Are In My System is his peak.
  12:52pm Cecile:

He got a lot of great people royalties when they weren't cool, so I respect that about him.
  12:53pm Cecile:

Lee Dorsey is amazing. One of my top 5 soul singers for sure. So sly.
Avatar 12:53pm still b/p:

Mid-70s Palmer, like Give Me An inch, got regular FM play and has the nostalgia haze/appeal...can't judge objectively.
Avatar 12:54pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yes, Jeremy, Dorsey's was better, but I like his version as well. But then I'm less into the whole Ur Text thing then you are ;)
Avatar 12:55pm still b/p:

Must catch Farmers Market before it wraps, but don't like leaving these musics.
Avatar 12:55pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

The best consistent albums Palmer did where his first four for Island, after that it was a single or so...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm tim from champaign:

Cool. Thanks for the endorsements, folks. Sneakin' Sally should be pretty easy to procure in the dollar bin. I was only familiar with Addicted to Love/Power Station Palmer. Not my bag at all.
  12:56pm Cecile:

Hated the Power Station
Avatar 12:56pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Agreed Cecile!
  12:58pm Cecile:

One band I thought was New Wave Fun, one perfectly decent singer, one guitar genius and no inspiration.
Avatar 12:59pm still b/p:

Speaking of Eydie, this guy's got a shade of Steve Lawrence...
Avatar 1:01pm Cheri Pi:

God this song is magic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Caryn:

Sick as a dog and it's raining like hell, so I ordered some food. But just realised that (due to being ill) I can't hear the damn doorbell, so I may have to spend the next half an hour standing in the hallway waiting for the food instead of listening in. Grr!
  1:04pm r i s k y:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm chris:

Hope this track is making you feel all cough syrupy, Caryn. Feel better soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Caryn:

What little I can hear of it, Chris. Thanks!
Avatar 1:12pm Jshatan:

That's my man - Jonwayne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Andrew Waterloo:

I realized when I got to work this morning that I didn't have my sweater because I actually wore into my apartment last night.
Avatar 1:13pm Duane:

Jshatan: He's a heartbeat away from getting huge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Caryn:

Well, I'm off to the hallway now. Play some fillers, Duane! (yeah, that's not gonna happen, but a girl can dream...)
Avatar 1:14pm Jshatan:

I'm writing him up for Mass Appeal - let you know when it's printed.
Avatar 1:16pm Duane:

Jshatan: Dope!! I'll look out for that. I really want to get him back on my show to do a live set..hopefully that can happen soon
Avatar 1:16pm Jshatan:

@Jan It's not so much about ur text, but that Palmer's version just rings a little hollow to my ears.
Avatar 1:18pm Cheri Pi:

Feel better Caryn, I'm sick too with a cold.
  1:19pm Cecile:

Irwin was almost cuddly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Caryn:

Yay, perfect timing on the food dropoff! Only missed 2 songs.

Aw, sorry to hear that, Cheri! You feel better too.
  1:22pm Cecile:

The jersey Mass Choir version of I wanna know what love is is great. But ITA w/ Duane
  1:22pm Cecile:

Both you be careful. There's some nasty crud out there
Avatar 1:26pm Cheri Pi:

t'anks Cecile :)
Avatar 1:26pm Duane:

Damn! This whole board has the cooties! Yikes :) Get better y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Planet Tyler:

Duane, thanks for inviting us to your singles (records!!!) party
  1:31pm Cecile:

I was sick a full 5 wks this summer. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Caryn:

Thanks, Cecile & Duane! I wouldn't mind being sick so much if I didn't have to go to work every day.
  1:33pm common:

man...great stuff today, duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm robyn:

this circuit diagram track is really cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm robyn:

is this a souvenir from germany duane?
Avatar 1:40pm Duane:

Yes. Circuit Diagram is a crew out of Hamburg. They gave me a copy of their 12 when i was there and yes..it is very, very cool! Loved it immediately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm northguineahills:

darn, this NY*AK is tight. Holy smith, I'm around when Duane is on the air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm robyn:

yeah this is a great set
  1:56pm Cecile:

Gotta go, but hope I can catch the end of the show.
Avatar 1:58pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

This is actually great getting your work done music, in a good way!
  1:59pm Cecile:

You know it, Jon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm tim from champaign:

Guys, I really don't feel good either. I ate too much at the Indian Buffet. Oooooohhhhhhhhhhh..........
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm SeanG:

yipeee ki-yah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Andrew Waterloo:

I'm just suffering from severe distraction-itus. I'm also a bit cold because I'm too manly to turn the furnace on, and I forgot my seater at home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm tim from champaign:

This Bob Brown is quite nice.
  2:25pm r i s k y:

My entire dept is singing in unison!!! Thanks Duane!!!!
Swag For Life Member 2:26pm phat:

Well, this is one of the most soothing, soulful tracks I've heard in a very long time.
Avatar 2:26pm Jshatan:

This is awesome. I could see seguing into the live version of Summer Madness by Kool & The Gang.
Swag For Life Member 2:26pm phat:

That modulation in the chorus is absolutely killer.
Swag For Life Member 2:27pm phat:

Heatwave = revelation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Caryn:

That was superb.
Avatar 2:36pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

That Heatwave makes me want to date seriously again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm robyn:

man, september really isn't that far away...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm SeanG:

Avatar 2:49pm Jshatan:

Go for it Jan!
Avatar 2:52pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Ha, okay Jeremy
Avatar 2:53pm Jshatan:

Let me know if you need a wingman.
Avatar 2:53pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Another great show Duane, welcome back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm robyn:

indeed. i went on a starring binge today!
Avatar 2:54pm Jshatan:

This has a touch of that Curtis Mayfield grandeur.
Avatar 2:55pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yes Jeremy, they'll be captivated by our discussion ofmusical arcana...
Swag For Life Member 2:56pm phat:

Ah, dub. I could probably use more dub.
Avatar 2:56pm Duane:

Yeah Jeremy: Katalyst is the other half of Quakers
Avatar 2:56pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Duane, is this the dub that MP did live which is on YouTube?
Avatar 2:57pm Duane:

Jan: Dunno..could very well be. It's from a radio session
Avatar 2:58pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Yeah look it up, he did at some point live showing how dub works...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm tim from champaign:

Thanks again for another excellent 3 hours, Duane.
Avatar 2:59pm Jshatan:

Ah, gotcha, Duane...further investigation required!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm chris:

Thanks, Duane!
