Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31am

I chased them away with my non-stop guests!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am

Sometimes everyone waits for someone else to go first...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31am

Like penguins jumping into the icy water? Morning BGZ and G!
Avatar 3:32am

Good morning, Julie!

Hiya G!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40am

Good morning Julie, BGZ and G.
I saw a band whose name would fit the transition between this show and the next: Cousteau Twins
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:42am

jangly guitars played underwater
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:43am

how about My Soggy Valentine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am

Maybe you could use that name to sing with Meghan at the next Hoof and Mouth
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:49am

doing my bloody valentine in flippers and goggles? or raincoats and umbrellas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am

I wonder what goth flippers could look like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am

many flippers come in black
Paul -berlin:

Nice one Julie! I luv WOV! They were awesome...and i got to see them live back in the day!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:04am

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:13am

Hey there ausmanx!
Avatar 4:17am

hmm, subtitling an Italian film about a hardcore guitarist who inherits his dad's cherry processing company. weird. strawberries and oranges are a good complement...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:18am

you say hardcore guitarist, I'm thinking someone who plays live music for porno
Avatar 4:20am

you know your Italian cinema! but no, he just plays thrash, but there is a very beautiful prostitute entangled in the plot. strangely good film, actually...
Paul -berlin:

How 'bout some good ole Bauhaus, Julie?
Paul -berlin:

Yikes! The math is getting harder! ; )
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:29am

We like to keep you on your toes!

My Soggy Valentine- we'd sing through snorkels and have them distort it. Oh and put the volume up to 11

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32am

Good morning, Meghan!
Paul -berlin:

Saw Love and Rockets play in my university auditorium...outside the hall it was so loud you need two sets of earplugs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38am
Matt from Springfield:

I feel good / in a special way
It's Dark Night of the Soul / and Julie's - our DJ!

Good morning Julie! Just an old fashioned "guestless" music show!
Avatar 4:38am

robbie avenaim (played with Sunn O))) among others) wants to record a bunch of drummers playing underwater in a swimming pool. so we got the rhythm section!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39am

Morning Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Enjoyed the Hippy Dippy Daviesness in the Archive, what an interview! :)

Oooh, underwater drumming!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:43am

Matt it was something else, and I've gotten two very sweet emails from him too, He even linked the show on his FB page
Avatar 4:44am
Mary Wing:

Wow, Ana Voog on WFMU.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:45am

I love The Blue Up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am
Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful, we're drawing the Davies' into our world! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46am
Matt from Springfield:

The Blue Up?

Yes, The Blue Up!
Paul -berlin:

I loke hoe you hidged DD back into the music direction as his yoga talk got a bit esoteric. (Nothing against yoga.)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:50am

Well, as he said it's all connected. I told him we needed to do another and talk about music, and he wants to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am
Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful, you can *even* talk about the music next time!
Now maybe RAY will feel compelled to do an interview with you! ;)
Avatar 4:57am

you'll be pleased to know there is a new (very worthwhile) Sydney band called Day Ravies... dayravies.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am
Matt from Springfield:

I'll never make that recipe again...

Canada (La Vie Ontarieure)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am
Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: Ha, Day Ravies! And they actually sound like a good band too, shoegazey stuff might work out on this show.
Avatar 5:01am
Mary Wing:

Avatar 5:03am

but if the blokes have a sausage party, what do the sheilas have?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:04am

@Matt I'm working on the Ray thing, I have some tenuous connections to him I haven't worked on yet @ausmanx a tupperware party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am
Matt from Springfield:

Awesome, Julie.

And so is the WFMU Tupperware Party! But, do we have to bring our own Tupperware...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am

And you shouldn't be afraid of being bled by leeches, it's the latest, safest medical technology. As is the hammer (for anesthetic).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30am
Matt from Springfield:

A very Syd Barrett style.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31am

Ah yes I can see that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

WOOOOO!!! The Church! Love the feel of "Shadow Cabinet"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Remember Clay's riff on goth music with his improv-ed "I'll Be The One Who's Wearing Black"? Well whenever I try to riff or imitate 80s "goth" music, I always sing to this tune, even though this itself isn't goth.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41am

Of course I remember that:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am

really enjoying today's show, btw....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41am

thanks Meghan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am
Matt from Springfield:

"Winter morning you walk through the trees / But they cut them all down for the factories / Made this pretty cabinet and gave you the keys" kind of environmental message, and probably the least opaque Church lyric I know of!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44am
Matt from Springfield:

And now InkSuc!! It's been a while. Meghan's right, you're KILLIN IT this morning, Julie! :D
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:45am

this whole album is really good, I love the jangle of the guitar on this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am
Matt from Springfield:

A new album too! They've got their own label, I see.

(I've recorded my own copy of "I'll Be The One Who's Wearing Black"--as well as Clay's "Camptown Parachute Pants"! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47am

I don't think I ever really listened to Inkubus Sukkubus..... now I might have to pick it up. Funny, I am starting today's show a little gothy too.... It'll be a good transition!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50am
Matt from Springfield:

Fantastic, Meghan!
(The joint 4AD show was a great transition as well--remember to do another show together like that!)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52am

Well..I'm ending with prog so :p
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52am

hahaha.... that show was so easy and fun! I loved it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:53am

Thanks for listening folks, see you next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am
Matt from Springfield:

And thank you Julie! Wonderful show!

Have a great Thursday everyone!
Avatar 7:37pm

So you thought you could play early Genesis without the Prog Police noticing? HA! It took me a while, but eventually I caught up to your airing of this excellent live recording. LLDoB is such a great record, but it peaks too early with the Broadway Melody of '74 on side 1.

I'll let you off with a warning this time, but some other listeners (and DJs!) may not be so forgiving next time.
Avatar 9:04am
Van in DC:

I'm way behind now. Trying to catch up here a bit...
Avatar 2:02pm

David Sylvian! Thanks Julie!

And nice Bowie track, followed by Bauhaus with Ziggy - brilliant! :)
Avatar 8:43am
Van in DC:

Back for another listen to some of these...especially Marakesh Night Market by Loreena McKennitt - how gorgeous is that song?!
Ed C:

I saw Lorelle Meets the Obsolete in Brooklyn last Thursday. Great show! Looking forward to the stream of them here.
