Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:13pm Bethany Ryker:

The Respighi is haunting and familiar at the same time in my mind....your reaction??
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:14pm fleep:

This is just what the doctor ordered. Plus a blood test, and I just ripped off the bandage. What a fine welcome home, thanks Bethany.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:16pm Domenic:

Respighi's blood work
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:20pm Timmay!!:

The slow part sounded like the soundtrack to a Cold War spy movie where there's not much action and everyone's doomed, so "haunting" seems right to me. This part just sounds really really pretty.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:23pm Vlad the Impala:

Enjoy your broadcasts, Bethany. Keeping FMU highbrow.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:29pm Bethany Ryker:

Ha! I nowhere near qualify to dwell in Highbrow Town!!
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:31pm 12539:

Somewhere elevated.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:33pm Matt from Springfield:

Andante, the BEST of all Cantabiles!

Hi Bethany and Stochastic 440ers!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:33pm fleep:

The key to Highbrow Town is lots of dead air between pieces, and then the highly polished pear shaped tones of a male baritone announcer. But you're close.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:33pm 12539:

Happy Birthday, Matt.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:34pm fleep:

Happy Birthday, Matt.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:34pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Happy Geburtstag to you, Matt
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:35pm Matt from Springfield:

What fleep said about Classical radio announcing. But you are highbrow, Bethany! You play the pieces the other Classical stations aren't highbrow *enough* to play! :)
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:35pm earrie:

Happy Geburtstag to you, Matt
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:36pm Fredericks:

Way to go, Matt. Keep up the good work! You too, Bethany
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:36pm Hello:

Danke schön, Blossom Earrie!
Right back atcha, Fredericks!
An old man, an old plan, an old canal: ADAM! :)
Wed. 4/3/13 7:37pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:37pm Timmay!!:

So much for my Giorgio Moroder guess.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:38pm 12539:

Later kids :)
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:39pm Hello:

Thank you 12539.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:40pm Matt from Springfield:

@Adam: I didn't realize I how much I wanted to say that, until just now! ;)

And Signore Nino Rota! Absolutely magnifico film composer.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:40pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Pleasant business, Danne D!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Later, Danne!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:40pm Bethany Ryker:

@12359 thanks for the assist with that link. Hope to see many of you there tomorrow!!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:41pm Caryn:

Heh, "Beaches" is on tv, on mute. Nino Rota is really adding to the drama of the film.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:41pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Hello, Caryn!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:42pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: The "Beaches" w/ Bette Midler, and "Blossom" as young Bette Midler?
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:43pm Caryn:

Hi, Adam. Been lurking all show long.

@Matt: yes indeed. The movie channel is the only channel with stuff on at this hour.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:43pm Hello:

Are you refering to the Saint Paul show? Is the church in Manhattan?
Wed. 4/3/13 7:44pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

This piece of music seems just fine for lurking.

Wed. 4/3/13 7:46pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

I wonder if Bethany isn't everyone's dream?
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:48pm Matt from Springfield:

Yeah Stravinsky!
Speaking of which, Bethany, you've GOT to do a fill-in on May 29th, it's the HUNDREDTH anniversary of his premiere of "The Rite of Spring"! We can all riot where we're listening!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:48pm Matt from Springfield:

There really haven't been any good classical music-related brawls since then! ;)
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:49pm J4ff:

She's in *my* dreams!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:49pm Caryn:

@Matt: ooh, nice idea. Riot, or dance. Preferably stopping before death.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:49pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Quiet rioting please, Matt. Quiet riot. Shhhhhh....
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:51pm northguineahills:

Flew back in for the end of the Rota pieces. Perfect, just what I need.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful soundtrack to beautiful dreams...

@Caryn: Good idea, about time we had a tribute to Mysterious Manias!
@Adam: Of course. And respectfully sip wine and discuss during the riot's intermission.
Wed. 4/3/13 7:53pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@J4ff: worldly men •do• make passes at women who play classics.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:53pm Hello:

Not enough of this on WFMU. Too bad.
Thanks Bethany!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:54pm GetOutOfDarkness:

Sorry if this has been talked about, I just got here, but is there any chance A440 will recieve a regular spot on the program schedule?
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:55pm Matt from Springfield:

+10, Adam! :)

Agree with Adam and Hello--we must have at least an hour of this a week!
Wed. 4/3/13 7:56pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

@Matt: in addition to being a rogue, you are a gentleman. :-) Thank you, Sir!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:57pm Caryn:

@Matt: Satie's "Parade" had a bit of a fall-out, but most of the great stuff happened in the ensuing trial, and not at the performance. Steve Reich's "Four Organs" had a great near-riot at Carnegie Hall. That was memorable.
  Wed. 4/3/13 7:57pm 12539:

Thanks for a golden hour, Bethany.
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Thank you, good Sir of both Portland and Lynnwood! :)

Always wonderful to hear your show, Bethany! Take care and until next time, connoisseurs!
Wed. 4/3/13 7:59pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Night, all wonders!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 7:59pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: True, "Four Organs" was the most recent comparable event. With a guy walking up to the stage and screaming "You WIN! Stop!" :)
  Wed. 4/3/13 8:00pm earrie:

Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:00pm Caryn:

@Matt: is that the woman who repeatedly banged her head on the front of the stage, wailing 'Stop, stop, I confess.'? Or a different listener?
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Till Sunday!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Hmm, don't think it was "I confess", unless that happened at another performance!
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:02pm Caryn:

Who knows, maybe someone was walking up to the stage at every performance, such was the power of the piece...
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:02pm Matt from Springfield:

Sorry, it WAS Caryn! You were correct! :)
Avatar Wed. 4/3/13 8:07pm Caryn:

Gotta go! Have a wonderful remaining 4 hours of your birthday, Matt!
Avatar Thu. 4/4/13 9:40am bobdc:

When I sent in my pledge during the drive my comment was "I miss A440!"
