Avatar 6:31pm Billy Jam:

Inspired by the late great J Dilla (whose six year anniversary of his passing is today) this is my R.I.P. RAP special (trademark :) in which I will play music by some (not all) of the hip-hop/rap artists who have passed on. Feel free to post here in comments your requests and shout outs to those who have passed on. I will post the date each artist died plus how they died in the comments section of playlist - OK? thanks for listening!
  6:35pm Eons One:

What up Billy! Showed up early. I'll just work on this 40 in the corner for a bit.
  6:38pm Eons One:

Guru's passing is still something I have yet to come to terms with. No matter how far hip hop has strayed from it's roots over the years, the fact that a new Gang Starr album was always possible gave me something to look forward too. R.I.Power G.U.R.U.
Avatar 6:44pm Billy Jam:

@ Eons One - I hear ya man and U know I will be playing some Gang Starr today. Hey got your CD and 7" - THANKS
  6:57pm Eons One:

No problem man. Enjoy!
  7:02pm Tall Paul:

Yo Bill, so many talented brothers and Sisters have passed on. I think one of the ones which shook the whole Irish community was the passing of Daniel"Lunitic" McDonnell. Can't forget Derek B from the UK or Eyedea. Or one of the soul brothers taken from the UK Lynden David Hall
  7:07pm Marmalade Kitty:

  7:44pm other david:

great tracks, hearing so many for the first time, cant enjoy them fully when I know they're gone.

Thanks for sharing Billy, this is a particularly brilliant show.
  7:46pm Caryn:

Great show, though sad. Lots of favourites being played. But in the Heavy D comments, the "but" makes no sense. A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot in the lungs.
  7:46pm jw:

agreed, this show is inspired.
  7:46pm nevermindwho:

I almost can't take this. My dad died last week. R.I.P. indeed. This is all so sad, and so beautiful. I can't not listen. But damn it's hard. My heart for all who feel the loss for all we lost too early.

  7:58pm Bla:

Thanks for another great show, Billy! Some of my favorite all-time WFMU shows have been tributes to the departed. Noah & Mr. C on James Brown, Noah on Gil Scott-Heron, Laura Cantrell did a lot too. For a younger listener like me, whose parents both died young, I really appreciate the perspective on a few levels.
  7:59pm Marmalade Kitty:

all far too young! RIP

bored stiff lol!
