They built four in a cluster not far from QVC's distribution centers which are currently empty. Two of the four don't have tenants. So there's now just brand-new, empty warehouses instead of farmland, which craves electrolytes

It reminds me of the Wal Mart effect, but $6 Billion WORSE. Main streets shuttered, shitty jobs, tax giveaways (aka corporate welfare), and often an increase in visits to the local ER because workers get injured.

It isn’t just Amazon or tech companies. Big corporations have been doing this for decades. Johnson & Johnson has been holding the city of New Brunswick hostage for decades threatening to move their headquarters if they don’t keep getting massive tax breaks. Other places bend over backwards for WalMart - all so they can come in and decimate all the local businesses. It has to stop!!

There was a great article somewhere a few years ago about a trucking distribution center in Indiana or Illinois that got huge tax breaks from the town it moved into, causing the town to go totally bankrupt as the trucks destroyed the roads, polluted the air, and drained local resources, while only bringing in shitty independent-contractor “jobs”.

I never understood how anyone was in support of NYC paying money to Amazon for opening a building here. The argument referenced the job creation.A simple calculator proved that the amount of jobs created nyc could have given a million dollars to each employee and then some! Obviously Amazon was never creating that amount of jobs anyway
