I don't know the details, but interstate speed limits are keyed to whether they are in or near an urban or built up area. 50-55-60 in built up areas, 70-75 in the boonies. I think I've even seen 80 in sparsely populated areas in the interior west, maybe Montana.

Rt 6 isn't the Lincoln Highway. The LH was mapped before numbering, by a private auto club. After numbering, a lot of it follows US30 from Philadelphia to western Wyoming. East of Philadelphia, it follows various numbered and un-numbered roads.

It starts at Times Square. Originally it followed 42nd St crosstown to the Weehawken Ferry. On the NJ side, from Weehawken Ferry (current Port Imperial) it went up Pershing Road to Boulevard East, and then across Union City on 48th St, then down Kennedy Boulevard to Lincoln Park, then across the bridges of what's now US Truck 1&9. From Newark, it follows various roads to Philadelphia--mostly NJ 27.

When the Lincoln Tunnel was built, it was rerouted through the tunnel, then up Boulevard East to 48th St, etc. There are still Lincoln Highway signs at the Boulevard East/Pershing Rd/48th St intersection.

"Although no other singles or albums came out in her name until 1976, she sang on numerous recordings that her husband produced, such as those featuring Tom Paxton, Ralph McTell, David Bowie (Low), Bert Jansch, The Radiators from Space, Thin Lizzy, Carmen, Sarstedt Brothers, Osibisa, Sparks, Hazel O'Connor, and Elaine Paige. On all of these recordings (and also on her husband's own Inventory album) she is credited as "Mary Visconti". During this time, she also appeared on various TV shows such as Cilla Black's, and various radio programmes.

Return to recording
In 1976, she returned to recording under her birth name and released the single "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)" (originally recorded by Édith Piaf as "Hymne à l'amour"), which reached Number 32 in the UK chart.[4] The B-side, "Tell Me Now", was an original composition by Hopkin. Her next single was "Wrap Me in Your Arms", with the B-side again written by Hopkin ("Just A Dreamer"). These singles came out on Visconti's Good Earth Records label.[4] Several songs recorded for an album at the time have now been released under Hopkin's own label, Mary Hopkin Music.[1]"

Oh, you're in for a treat then, delving through Roy Harper's discography. Some great stuff in there.

@clarke: I hope so too! I'm being rotated out of my current role into something less hours-intensive (no that's not a euphemism for getting fired).

I'll bet that show was a rad treat. I'd love to be able to have seen any iteration of that band. Patricia Morrison's bass was so good too, was she the bassist for that show?

Many thanks, Joe! Great way to start the weekday portion of the New Year -- Surface Noise always brings me something I didn't even know I needed. Which I guess is a good working definition of a "gift." So thanks to you for that, week after week.

Stay on top, Surfactants!
