i think it is all set-up to be a good film, but doesn't quite get there. the sorvino/pacino arguments are stilted.

Cruising has aged fairly well. The portrayal of the gay leather world will win no GLAAD awards. However, given the various images of gay life and experience in media today, Cruising is just one of many representations circulating through media today. It's a fairly good police procedural.

Glad i know others that love that song and the time period!! Rick played bass..you can see him in the Apple film Son of Dracula as the house band with Frampton, John Paul Jones and Keith Moon on a toy drum set!!! Great bassist. Think he owns an antique shop today.
