	🎸 ♥ 9:18pm Austin Rich: That's great to hear, Charles! It was my anniversary yesterday, so we were off on the Oregon Coast, having fish and chips and watching seals.
	9:18pm Mr. X: So as these business card cds spin, how does the cd player deal with the cut off parts without discontinuity? How can it find the exact spot in the track where it left off without any dead air? I don't get it. Am I still stuck in the vinyl record mindset of a continuous groove? CDs don't have to have that kind of continuity?
	🎸 ♥ 9:18pm coelacanth∅: never heard of/seen this format before. if one got passed to me i'd be wary of putting it into my vintage (old) cd player or my old (old) laptop. the manual for the yamaha definitely says not to
	🎸 ♥ 9:19pm Austin Rich: This Mini-Mutations track is one that was only available via the QR code. I performed it once, live, for a festival, a few years ago, but this mix is new for this presentation. (Not drastically different, just minor tweaks, but different enough.)

	🎸 ♥ 9:20pm Austin Rich: It plays just like a regular CD, Mr. X. It just plays five + minutes of stuff, and then you get to the outer edge of where it can't take new data. (The discs all play inside to outside.)

	♥ 9:32pm drowsy: On the campus of University College Cork, Ireland. They had some sweet stencils on the ground, urging people to wash their hands. "Give 'em a Good Scrub!" with suitable image!

	🎸 ♥ 9:42pm Austin Rich: Part of the "Personal Business" project was that the pieces were often unique to each card you got in the mail. I have no idea how many of the cards I got from these artists were completely unique, or had the same material on it for everyone, but as I understand it - especially in the case of Hal McGee - each card I got from him was completely unique. The first card I sent out has personalized music, where I changed something about each card to make it unique. But after that, I make coookie-cutter cards.

	🎸 ♥ 9:48pm Austin Rich: Chefkirk - half of JUICE MACHINE - and I got to perform together this last weekend, with Lob of Instagon, for a LoopFest that was hosted in Corvallis, OR on Saturday. It was the first time I played in front of people this year. (And probably the last time, too.)
	🎸 ♥ 9:50pm Austin Rich: In total I made about 12 cards for this project. But no one has received all 12 cards... yet.
	🎸 ♥ 9:51pm Austin Rich: The Fourth Sunday Players are myself, univac, and Big City Orchestra, performing once a month on UB Radio Salon, a show that Big City Orchestra has run for years and years. We write scripts, perform music, and have a lot of radio fun.

	10:14pm Bill: I didn't keep track, but it was a good amount, maybe 8 or 9? I have one more package I gotta mail out. Hal sent it on the last day of the project.

	10:15pm Bill: I just sent Hal a microcassette for his newest compilation project!

	🎸 ♥ 10:21pm Austin Rich: Bill: Yeah, that totally works. I bought about 150 blanks when the project started, in case I had a couple discs not burn properly. (Which did happen.) I could mail you a few if you wanted. (Again, we could work out a trade or something... I'm not too worried.)

	🎸 ♥ 10:42pm Austin Rich: Hal organizes a number of mail art and DIY art projects that often require people to mail things to each other, but occasionally manifest entirely in digital form, too. The projects are as wide ranging as his music and art.

	🎸 ♥ 10:47pm Austin Rich: It sounds like we are getting a behind-the-scenes audio look at one of Hal's shows, that he puts on outside, at the racquetball court near where he lives.

	🎸 ♥ 10:50pm Austin Rich: Hal also (famously) hosts "Apartment Shows," where a limited number of guests are invited to his house, to play for each other, and they are often filmed and recorded and available soon afterwards. These shows are "quiet" shows, as he can't annoy his neighbors. So there are stipulations on the kinds of gear and sounds you can use and make. If I ever go to Florida, I would love to try to play one.

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

I have no idea how many of the cards I got from these artists were completely unique, or had the same material on it for everyone, but as I understand it - especially in the case of Hal McGee - each card I got from him was completely unique. The first card I sent out has personalized music, where I changed something about each card to make it unique. But after that, I make coookie-cutter cards.

	🎸 ♥ 9:48pm Austin Rich: Chefkirk - half of JUICE MACHINE - and I got to perform together this last weekend, with Lob of Instagon, for a LoopFest that was hosted in Corvallis, OR on Saturday. It was the first time I played in front of people this year. (And probably the last time, too.)
