Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

When I was nineteen I knew this beautiful girl named Laurie who's job was to wear a Goofy costume at Disneyland and great people as they entered the park. One night we went to the Troubadour to see Little Feat. She got up and stared to boogie in a way that could only be called mind boggling. On the way home she said to me "I hope I didn't embarrass you with that dancing". I was speechless, but not embarrassed. Tom Waits opened the show, playing the guitar sitting on a stool.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, WR, in transit, will look at it more closely when I get home. Did you go for it? He did some similar stuff in the 90s (Braxton), Charlie Parker albums, quite good. Did you go for it? I do prefer physical media, vinyl for the most part, can go either way on CD (slight preference for physical as well).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm HyperDose:

NJ transit is a ghost town these days. I love it
  1:34pm dan:

@Revolution
I'd say it was 50/50 and some of the disagreements were crazy. Siskel didn't like Apocalypse Now, but enjoyed Baby's Day Out and Carnosaur. Ebert was the complete reversal on both.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm WR:

Yes, I bought the Braxton Standards in digital, was giving you heads up since only 34 CDs left.
To not be mysterious, we're talking about a new braxton release:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm The Oscar:

Funny enough, I've been going through old Siskel & Ebert shows every morning with my exercise. What's cool is that it's tough to imagine anyone consistently siding with one over the other-- they both just spoke their opinions, and sometimes agreed and sometimes just yelled at each other. (That said, Ebert was the better writer by magnitudes).
Avatar 1:35pm StringOFperils:

Siskel and Ebert had deeper discussions than I see on a lot of news broadcasts these days.
  1:35pm dan:

@The Oscar
Ebert had a more scholarly approach to his reviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm WR:

Are old Siskel & Ebert shows generally available?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm The Oscar:

As a critic myself in the age of Rotten Tomatoes, I am deeply envious of their ability to explain their verdicts as a "marginal" thumbs up or down. I hate having to boil my reviews down to "fresh" or "rotten."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm doctorjazz:

RRN63, like that theory of jazz progression. The music class version is that ragtime tried to meld African-American rhythms with classical harmony and dignity, early jazz musicians loosened it up some while retaining the ragtime "oom path" (bass on 1 and 3), then Louis Armstrong blew it wide open and taught everyone to swing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Uncle Michael:
