"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

  9:06am ami ad:

Hello DJ. Hello all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Phillippe Bastille:

Thanks Threemoons and Handy! I was able to work getting the shot around a weekend in case I had some side effects, then had a last minute project dumped on me that I'll have to finish over the weekend -- so I better not get Handy's 101 fever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am karlward:

Don! Again with the mud! We just mopped the floor! Take your shoes off before you walk in my kitchen!

It's a long-range surveillance photo, Melinda. "Late-model sedans are gathering, and strangely compelling music emanates from a suburban thrift store on an innocent-looking Friday morning ..."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Threemoons:

Philipe--Don't worry, you got this! I had to work through my day of side effects, but I made it, and now I can finally go see Mom this weekend and help her with some stuff that's been piling up....

man that dude is straight up dirty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Phillippe Bastille:

I've heard immediate Tylenol after the shot and lotsa water are key, so I'm gonna give that a go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am Threemoons:

Philippe--I would actually let it go overnight if you can bear it; you want a robust immune response. At night, take what you need to go to sleep. Have LOTS of tummy-gentle food handy and stay hydrated. Remember the old chemo diet BRAT--Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast (plain). If your tummy gets funny, remember that icewater is easier to keep down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am steveo:

good morning am i late?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Threemoons:

And don't be upset if side effects bounce around different systems (nervous, muscular, digestive, neuro etc) like a pachinko ball....it'll pass.

I decided to embrace it, YB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& you gotta wait there 15 min.s - so bring headphones or knitting er somethin'!
...& I found the actual needle was NOTHING.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Threemoons:

One last thing--in NY, it's easy to get Delta8 gummies--they didn't do a lot by way of getting me high but they sure as hell put a damper on the deep body cramps I got the evening of my 2nd shot--I'm a side sleeper and my own body weight on my hips and shoulders made it tough to lie down; one of those before bed did the trick. And yeah the shot itself is NOTHING--didn't even feel the needle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Handy Haversack:

Welp, I gotta head out to the dr. office. Hope to catch up with youse all later on.

Thanks for this hour, JA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am P(LP)²B:

@RRNov63 Unfortunately I do not have enough Words With Friends friends to last 15 minutes. More like Words with Friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- though you later feel a little 'punched' in the arm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am P(LP)²B:

Good luck Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Threemoons:

Hang in there, Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am P(LP)²B:

@Threemoons unfortunately I am in a drug testing position, so my gummies will be delayed until I retire in 2 1/2 years...
  9:54am TerrDE:

I d skip the Tylenol unless you hate your liver. Ask a hospital nurse what they think if it. Also you want the elevated temperature it will suppress
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am P(LP)²B:

@TerrDE I apparently have quite the resilient liver, given my prior history with bourbon, vodka, scotch, gin, wine, high ABV beers lol! But yeah, I've heard lotsa bad stuff about tylenol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Threemoons:

Philippe--aaah, sorry. In NYC they are no longer allowed to test for THC of any sort for MOST jobs unless it's a physical safety issue (ie MTA driver/mechanic/etc). I worked at a major pharmco years ago. I never indulged in the Whacky Tabaccy myself, but when the Delta8 gummies came up, I had to try them as an alternative to stuff like Motrin for Lady Cramps and similar issues as the NSAIDs were chewing up my stomach (ulcers 2x). Anyway when i was at said pharmco, you COULD be "randomly" called for a pee test. In 7 years there, I was called ONCE in 6 years. Then, when they were making cuts to my department, the "random, number generated" tests mystriously picked me 7 times in 4 months. Complete pain in the ass. I KNOW my ex-boss, who was a total beeeyotch, was looking for ways to get rid of me. She even waited until I was good and sick and she KNEW that I sometimes got prescription coedine for bronchitis cough control. I must have metabolized the F out of it though because....even though I filled out the little sealed card (in case I threw a positive) of prescription meds I was on, I never got called back. She finally gave up and I got out of there with a package, but I digress.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Most drugs are hard on the stomach & liver, true. Temper your use accordingly.
Whole point of the vax is to sitmualte the immune system - so don't take anti-inflammatories *before* the shot @ all - & hold off long as possible afterwords seems good sense. I held off analgesics til I got tired of not sleeping from discomfort.
Hell have a shot of bourbon before you go ! Wish I did...
Made sure I had juices & vitamin waters - protein bar to feed immune cells
...glad to get outta there after symptoms vigil... walking t circulate it seemed good - then down for the low energy & chills...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Threemoons:

@TerrDE yeah, as I said above, you WANT a robust immune response. Feel all the icky feels for a day and let it sink in real good.
Avatar 9:59am Malcolm:

this cktrl is lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Threemoons:

Plain brown rice stays down also in case you have the tummy icks. I literally couldn't hold down anything except icewater and saltines for about 7 hours after I woke up the next day. Impressive intestinal pyrotechnics also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Always found miso soup a good veggie alt for chicken soup. Not low sodium, tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Threemoons:

@RRN you're gonna want some salt anyway, especially if you have the tummy icks....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am steveo:

feelin yer picks today & it's always today if you think about it
Avatar 10:04am Cp304:

good stuff today JA. Gotta pack you all in the van now, have a lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am P(LP)²B:

@threemoons I have a contract with the Feds that put me in the testing category. Never got tested after the initial screening, but just not worth the risk ATM. @RRNov 63 definitely sounds like I'm better off embracing the symptoms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am sphere:

There USED to be a hidden momo shop in the back of a cell phone and Tibetan Buddhist book/prayer goods shop in Jackson Heights--it eventually got signage but kept its location. Burned down alas. I went back in the day before most knew about it; it had some of the best combo beef/lamb momos and home-made hot sauces (yellow and red) that I have ever had. I also got some amazing herbal bulk incense that one burns over charcoal there. ny.eater.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Passaic River Blues:

@Threemoons: man, those rabbit warren stores on 74th Street, how I miss them! There was always a Tibetan sub-tenant in the back selling some impossibly delicious!

Also, Smoke's "Everything" totally new to me and excellent. Noodling fusion is where's at.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Threemoons:

True funny story: Back then, they didn't really have a menu; just prices drawn on a paper plate. 3 items: "Veg Momo" "Meat Momo" and "Cha (tea)." So I once went there with a Momo Crawl group--most were Queens residents and foodies. This one chick was completely out of place--had worn high heels for a day of walking, fussy clothes when you're eating drippy food, etc. We all go up and order plates of 8 for $5 to share. So Fussy Chick asks the lovely, smiling 15-year-old girl behind the counter: "What kind of meat is in the momos?" Girl *smiling broadly* "MEAT!" "No, what KIND of meat?" *nods more vigourously, smiles more broadly* "MEAT!" It was def beef mixed with lamb. Delicious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Threemoons:

Was it a remix? I mean, I got up for two seconds to get some tea there is no way I would have NOT heard Bowie's voice from the kitchen....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am nathan:

Was David Bowie a member of The Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Bowie was 'into' Ceremonial Magick & Kabballah for sure. A very smart baby was he.
Avatar 11:14am Mike W:

Where’s Bryce, that was always a fun game
  11:14am Kpx:

Hey RRN63, anytime I look at Leo most of the Stars that make up his head are too faded to see. Does it look the same way to you from wherever you are.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am iiibeat:

I remember reading that he became a mime after leaving a Buddhist monastery . . Not sure if I read or not about him and Golden Dawn.

@tim from champaign (now washington) i bet Fabio would answer on his broadcasting area ain't it?

I enjoyed that John. for several reasons. Would love to share about my gallery visit last week (very. Very far from the one you talked about.) but I worry it would be too long and umprompted for the comments board.

I like when WFMU DJs talk about art, books, films, music et al. It's much different then some commercial DJ jackass talking about his visit to Chipotle or Pantera Bread or the upcoming Home and Garden show at the local hockey rink.

@RRN63: Got it, it sounds like you have at least a good strong casual interest in it and you learned a thing or two about it. But if you want to know where and when to look for Leo it's easy enough, I just googled it and I got some straightforward instructions. But like I said the Stars that make up its head is very difficult to see, so in case you do try to look for it don't let that throw you off, it looks like a backwards question mark. But should be able to recognized the body easy enough.

:) Thank you.
I will only mention the name of the artist (Ismail Bahri) whose latest (solo show) exhibition I visited, and it left me puzzled. Never knowing if there is really something to it, and I get a feeling very close to anger, let's just say it's frustration because of the very rare occasions I get to go inside the art spaces and dimensions, which means that I am missing much of the context for the conversation surrounding it , or if really there is not much to it because of the poverty (in all senses of the term) of the local (cultural and intellectual) scene. Mind you this very exhibition is proof that there are *always* people, there is always something that has potential .. but .. a lot I fail to grasp (and I always contrast this with music where I was able to discover musicians and pieces and places like wfmu where I came to appreciate -and almost prefer sometimes- the abstract , like improvised jazz. A very puzzling subject, I think about A LOT, but almost never get to talk about with other people
  11:53am modern blaze:
