Now I see it's it's titled " thing with a hook" performed by doug gillard. It only took me 15 years to put this together. Is he the writer?

Alex Chilton, a rock and roll god to many. Got a very early start with the Box Tops and a fab stint with Big Star. And, to think, Paul Westerberg, leader of the Replacements, even wrote and titled a song about him. A lot of fans, this kid had!

Hey Pseu! Whoa, MEANINGLESS is 20. Getting old is weird, but I suppose it beats the alternative. The I Heart Huckabees soundtrack is cool and worth looking for too. Saw a Rolling Stone item about the MEANINGLESS anniversary, being old means it also feels weird reading about music in Rolling Stone at this point, but hey.
  12:42pm Gerry from Miami:

Pseu, shedburner may have won the Internet today, huh?

  1:01pm Susan:

A “tiny house burner” !! What is the point of those little sheds???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Bill in W.O.:

@Gerry nah, Bill Lloyd is the same guy that was Lloyd in country hitmakers Foster & Lloyd in the 80-90's, but who has always been a pop songwriter of the first order and who's never made a bad record and who's got a dozen-odd solo records going back to the 80's and check those out.

  1:14pm Gerry from Miami:

@Bill in West Orange Sounds like Mr. Lloyd has taken a back seat to his former partner, Mr. Foster. He has yet to score his own article in Wikipedia. I look to see all his stuff annotated there soon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Bill in W.O.:

@Gerry Radney Foster had a couple of pretty successful solo records in the 90's and meanwhile Bill Lloyd's been making wonderful pop music so of course nobody much actually bought it, but being a hero for pop cognoscenti isn't for the faint hearted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Dennis Diken:

  1:24pm Marty in Ocean Grove:

Yes Pseu. Quaint, diverse and all those tents!
  1:25pm Beanz:

How it could actually be worse is there are bad neighbors, and then there's the neighbor from hell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Gaylord Fields:

@Marty in OG: What's the current ice cream parlor situation there? How many you think are gonna be able to open this summer?
  1:25pm Gerry from Miami:

I'm a stone cold Associatiin fanatic. Starting with "Along Comes Mary" and "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies" all the way through their WB label career. Such excellent group singing and great song choices as well. Can't beat PF Sloan!

  1:29pm Gerry from Miami:

@Dennis Diken Boy, that Wrecking Crew sure got around, didn't they? So many records they were part of! They all retired very wealthy, that's for sure! Hal B. and Carol Kaye forever!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm B R M:

I did see the Sparks Doc, THE SPARKS BROTHERS, by Edgar Wright... was the perfect pairing of director and subject. I adored it!
  1:33pm Beanz:

@Gerry FM: Hal Blain bought the farm not too long ago. And I'm pretty certain a few more other ones did as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm The Oscar:

Busy working, but I can confirm that the Sparks doc is super great! No word yet on a release date, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm The Oscar:

The most mindblowing part to me is the freezeframe on the teenage Mael brothers in the audience of an early Beatles performance.
  1:35pm Zetti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm B R M:

@Zetti- if you love the band, you'll enjoy I think. Its not Edgar Wright's fiction style in the film, but a sense of humor that is in sync with the band...who are GREAT subjects.
  1:37pm Gerry from Miami:

@ Beenz. Sure, I acknowledge that members of the Wrecking Crew have been passing away. But while still alive, they were all able to live very comfortably in their "limited" free time when not doing sessions (thousands of them!). Hal Blaine may have been the wealthiest of all of them.

@Gerry Pseu said Spotify is great for finding new music. Pandora is an old service that makes live playlists by choosing tracks you may like based off your favorite artists. I assume Spotify implemented a similar feature (I don't use streaming services so I have no idea).

@Gerry FM: true true, but they paid a price for that wealth, because they were booked so heavily that they practically did nothing but work endlessly. They were seldomly at home and hardly ever saw their family, they slept very poorly and always had to eat on the run.

@Beenz I guess there is always a price to pay for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It was probably fun for these gifted musicians, but there must hsve been times when all that work seemed tedious and repetitious. But for us music junkies, their world always represented a fantasy heaven.

@Steve H I think Lenny Dee plied his musicsl trade here in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area during my youth. Hotels, night clubs, the usual stuff for an itinerant organist with perhaps a small combo. But he did issue quite a few recordings as well.

An IPA with notes of....old Marlboro Red butts soaked in urine?
  2:23pm morphe':

Hyper - nice cop offered to call a taxi .. FL refused and FLman called 911 again - busted by the same cop and must pay $300 or more in fines... plus lost his weed ....
  2:24pm Dano:

Yr DJ'ing is great!
  2:26pm Listener Robert:

Folks, the Wikipedia entry en.wikipedia.org... is woefully incomplete. I just added Jim Price and Bill Kelly, for gosh sakes! So get in there and add whoever you remember who's not listed somehow already, and if you're stuck for a reference just link to archives here as I did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Stevel:

Poppyheads. Very nice!
Avatar 2:26pm HyperDose:

@morphe I know he called 911 for a taxi, so they were willing to let him off with a warning? Wow, talk about not getting out of your own way.
  2:27pm Listener Robert:

It's "List of WFMU Radio Hosts", and it includes past and present.
  2:28pm Beanz:

Back to the burner suggestions. Howzabout a Outhouse Burner. Why, Because it's full of it ?.
  2:33pm Listener Robert:

I'd've added an entry for Paul and Morbid if I didn't keep instantly forgetting their full names every time somebody here reminds me of them.
  2:34pm Gerry from Miami:

And for our friends in the Hamptons, gazebo burner.
  2:34pm winston legthigh:

where do u hang out @snake?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm B R M:

This smile track is so great!
  2:36pm Listener Robert:

If "notable" is the criterion, it should at least have an entry for DJ Keilli[dh] as WFMU's youngest -- I think.
  2:40pm Gerry from Miami:

@Steve H. Did a little research on Lenny Dee. He eventually settled in the Sarasota/St. Petersburg area of Florida on the Gulf side, but he was a member of the Lauderdale/Miami scene as well during his long career. He might even merit the title of "Father of Easy Listening," but he really was quite an accomplished organist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Stevel:

Always such a great show, Pseu! Thank you again and again, along with the skeletons, djs, listeners, and assorted mental vagrants, such as I.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm myron feld:

Both this "I Am A Jetfighter" and The Three O'Clock's "Jet Fighter" are great songs. Who knew jet fighting was such a rich source for great pop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm p/b:

wow with this show today Pseu, one song after another that's new to me but feels like a good fitting something you want to wear. Listen to that Andy Bopp bringing the sweet. Love it
