Is there a more universally adored pianist by other pianists than Barry Harris? (I know the answer but don't want to spoil it.)
  9:15am

Is the theme... backwards tributes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Jeff Golick:

Well that didn't take long, @DJpeterDE. Bit looser than that...but yeah. Yojne!
  9:20am
DJpeterDE:

Hahaha, lucky guess!

I am aware of tunes named Emanon by Dizzy, Wynton M., and Wayne. Must be others too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
Jeff Golick:

One of Wayne Shorter's recent albums was called "Emanon."
  9:26am
DJpeterDE:

I think Ben Sidran once asked Miles where the name of this tune came from... Miles demurred...

Backwards song titles makes me think of Sonny Rollins' "Airegin."

Jeff Golick:

Oh shoot, now you tell me, @Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Jeff Golick:

@DJpeterDE: yeah, re Miles. There's some conjecture that Sidran was also the name of his tailor or something like that?
  9:30am

That would be a good job, tailor to Miles Davis. Until Betty came along.

Nardis was first played at a Cannonball Adderly date that both Bill Evans and Miles were on. Miles is credited with the song; he never is known to have played it again. Evans played it 10,000 times. Uhhhh....
Avatar 🦀 9:31am
Listener Gregory:

Interesting to compare that early recording of Nardis to Evans's later ones, which were furious performances at a much faster tempo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am

This is great stuff. I think if Smoker and Golia as schools unto themselves. Relatively small circles, it feels like. Relatively being the key word. Why do I have that impression?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am

I definitely think of Golia in those terms, holding it down on the West Coast. But I'm not sure I know enough about Smoker to even say...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Seems like 12"s @ 45rpm for better sound is a thing now?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:56am
doctorjazz:

Yup, Rev, has green for a while, actually, but now that vinyl has had its "resurgence", seems a decent amount of 12 inch 45 reissues are being released. Not much new music in that format (at least that I've noted). Of course, 12 inch 45 RPM dance singles were common during the disco era.
