hiya mariano!
other day towards the end of Mr. Fine Wine's Mardi-Gras-and-A-Half show, i was obsessing over finding a recipe for a liquored-up vegan recipe for King Cake -- so when i did a search, not only found recipes but found this! right in NOLA!

That's cool, slugluv, I had a feeling you'd find something. Despite the traditionally seafood- and meat-heavy cuisine, there's more vegan and vegetarian options than one might think. I've never been to this place (yet), but a couple of vegan friends of mine swear by Green Goddess in the Quarter: www.greengoddessrestaurant.com

@ mariano -- WOW, thanks! Green Goddess sounds awful familiar (maybe vegan friends have visited too?) and damn -- they have a dish featuring Freekah! killer drink menu too (are Hurricanes still a thing in NOLA? friend who visited there in the 80s said they were THE drink) . . . and yeah, still wanna make my own King Cake (even though i am the World's Worst Cook) vegan and "clean" but with a totally "sinful" liquor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
radioronan:

Sorry to hear that @threemoons - I hope you find something you enjoy soon.
I can vouch for Green Goddess @mariano & @slugluv Very good under Chef Chris (last I heard was at Revel) and now under Chef Paul. I know I've seen a few WFMU DJ's eating there when in town, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
mariano:

Well, hurricanes are really sweet, like a punch or a Mai Tai. And they really disguise the taste of the bozze so it's easy to get hammered really fast. Not really my thing but they're really popular. I don't really drink in general but on those rare occasions I do (mainly the days leading up to Mardi Gras), my big indulgence is to start the day with a hunk of king cake with praline filling and a brandy milk punch. Found some other king cake outlets with more vegan options: gonola.com...

i saw a Honey Bee hanging around my fire-escape "garden" earlier today -- s/he seemed to like the Catnip Flowers and Wild Flowers best, and as "crazy" as it may sound, i kinda took this vow to stick around so i can continue to support these (and other) tiny "insignificant" creatures, and asked the Bee to please travel and bring goodness to the Earth :)

Love music from the hashish lands - if that's a reasonable & respectful way of saying it (I think of Putumayo's chocolate & coffee lands comp.s - & it seems an accurate descriptor).
All love & healing empowerment to already struggling Beirut from here in the town of Lebanon, New Hampshire. Video of this blast was astonishing.
