@3:22 StringOFperils: well, I wonder if airports have some magnetic fields or something that has an effect on one's perception of time. Once in Helsinki-Vantaa airport my friend went for a cigarette to the smoking booth and I accompanied him there, and we did have plenty of time until departure. After he stubbed out the nicotine stick we of course left the booth, hearing the words "this is the final boarding call for flight AT836". Somewhere between half an hour and an hour had just disappeared. Spooky.

GG, the friend I mentioned above was supposed to accompany me to Brighton as well last week (sigh).

@3:48 DJ GeorgyGirl: yes, even if I really don't want to fly. It takes a long time to UK via rail, but then again, I loved interrailing in my mid-20s. I hope they'd make it cheaper as it is obviously significantly less polluting.

@photocopy...I actually missed not one, but TWO, connecting flights at Schipol one time. Had a four hour layover in Amsterdam. KLM was kind enough to get me onto a later, later flight to Berlin. I think they just wanted to ensure that my baked a** was out of the country. Time dilation indeed.

@3:52 Mr Fab: I knew this would come up, hence referring to nicotine there in my original comment ;) I personally am a non-smoker as I managed to quite cigarettes nearly 17 years ago - whoah it is an eternity. But yes, the experience was quite weird as we were stone cold sober.
