Hello, hello, hello, everyone! Your wandering DJ returns from holiday, slightly suntanned, definitely relaxed, and ready for some Flange and Frigate goodness. :-)

Hi Georgy. Ready for a happy rockin' two hours.

Mr Fab:

Took out a big chunk of time the other day tracking down the songs I clicky-starred on this show sinc eit debuted. Now I'm starting over again, dang it, stop playing all this cool stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm

Nope. Shan't. ;-)

Avatar 1:18pm
Mr Fab:

Huh, there was another band called The Avengers. They didn't sue the famed '70s SanFran punk band of the same name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Probably. I've had a few instances of there being about five different bands with the same over decades. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Same name, I mean
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The Edgar Froese track genuinely pissed me off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I shall find somewhere else to play it ;-)
Avatar 1:23pm
Otis Fodder:

Multiple bands with the same name makes me always think of how many Kaleidoscope's there are. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Edgar Froese? what is the connection? what did I mis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Jan - I had a brilliant track on one of my UK psych compilations that turned out to be Edgar Froese's band before Tangerine Dream. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Jan Turkenburg:

aha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Otis - I have to go REALLY careful whenever I find a random Kaleidoscope track!! :-)
Avatar 1:25pm
Mr Fab:

Bands didn't seem so litigious back then. A former member of a (all-male) '60s band called the Go-Gos told me that not only was there no legal action against those new wave Valley girls, he actually worked with them when he was employed by their label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I found a Kaleidoscope album in a second hand store, asking excuse me sir, Which Kaleidoscope is this? He was puzzled, he had to learn from me that there were at least two!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Because I recorded all of this way way before I normally do I'm rediscovering all this music. Sitting here, shouting "Ooo!!! This is good!" like a lunatic ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr fab - I like that. :-) That's a nice story :-)
  1:29pm
Martinibomb:

WEnt for a walk then booted up my old Amiga to see if I can could access the jungle room and here I am on something from the 80s.
  1:30pm
Martinibomb:

the wfmu site is kinda perfect for these old computers Lol I love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - you are literally in a time warp :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's the sound like?
  1:31pm
Martinibomb:

I have the sound going thru an ipad right now... just using the amiga for the web but it should play the audio fine
  1:31pm
Martinibomb:

bought this when I was in highschool and it's funny that it still works in 2019 before the web was really invented. hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I can't imagine that most of our equipment now would last that long.
  1:35pm
Martinibomb:

Commodore made a good machine. It's too bad they were such a mess. The Amiga was way ahead of mac/pc and not terribly expensive for everything it did at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Like the Amstrad in the UK - not bad machines but no good business model when pitted against the big boys, sadly.
  1:36pm
Martinibomb:

I hooked it up to my big screen.. trying to seee if I can use it for the *house computer* general email/web that kinda thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Do a photo! I'd love to see that :-)
  1:37pm
Martinibomb:

will do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I couldn't find out anything about The Blues & Roots which is a shame as this is a great track
Avatar 1:41pm
Mr Fab:

That was! Real raw n rockin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Rich in Washington:

this song reminds me that I need to see that film Sightseers again.
Avatar 1:42pm
Mr Fab:

This "Sight Seer" is nuts, a kind of cousin to "Armenia City in the Sky."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Entertaining AND useful ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

And remember - it's pronounced Arm an Knee-a ;-) heh heh heh ...
Avatar 1:48pm
Mr Fab:

and there was the proto-Velvet Underground "The Primitives" too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Rich in Washington:

YAY! Next week! I'll be there in a silly hat!
  1:50pm
Martinibomb:

That's why we love English!
  1:50pm
Martinibomb:

It's the mutt of language
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Please do! And streamers and cake! :-)
  1:50pm
Martinibomb:

It's all mangy and effed up and missing an eye
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Rich in Washington:

Chipped is the only thing that makes any of our mugs match.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - that sounds like a sweet old teddy bear :-)
  1:52pm
Martinibomb:

That's how I feel about our language. There's little things from lots of other languages tha's why it's such a mess
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

One of my favourite mugs has developed a rather worrying hairline crack, which has just started making "ping" noises :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Rich in Washington:

I posted a video to FB a few weeks back of this ancient Japanese-made China cup which makes a distinct TINK sound when I pour hot coffee or tea into it. One of these days, it's just going to shatter in a million pieces.
  1:54pm
Martinibomb:

I read that before the Brits could produce proper porcelain they added milk first to help cool the hot water and keep the mug from cracking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I remember that ... I fel your pain :0(
@MB - wouldn't that go weird after a while??
Avatar 2:06pm
Mr Fab:

what was that autobiography you just mentioned?
  2:07pm
Martinibomb:

I think the motivation for milk first is still up for debate. I just read that somewhere recently hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This one: www.amazon.co.uk...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - I completely misread that ... I thought you meant that they added milk to the porcelain mixture to stop it cracking. LOL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Putting milk in before the tea is a sign of a sick society. And perversion. ;-)
  2:14pm
Martinibomb:

OH hahah! Now we know why it was so bad, right?! If they just hadn't added that milk to the clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There you go ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Rich in Washington:

I sometimes mix sugar or honey in my tea water before I put the tea bag in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's fine - sugar is fine. Just no milkage. No no no. Verboten ;-)
  2:24pm
Martinibomb:

holy feeeeck this is killer track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm 4 days away from my one year No Smoking anniversary (yay!) and I suddenly really want a cigarette. Gah. I've been smoking in my dreams lately. Must be a stress thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is why I wanted to find out more about The Blues & Roots :-) They're so good!
  2:26pm
Martinibomb:

I've tried smoking but it always makes me feel sick and super heavy like I want to lay down on the ground
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I know the cigarette dreams, Georgy. It takes a while for them to disappear. But in the end the do
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think that'll be a chapter title in my autobiography - "The Cigarette Dreams" ;-)
  2:27pm
Martinibomb:

how did you and Jan start smoking? Teens?
  2:29pm
Martinibomb:

ooooh Harpsichord! i'm so into that sound right ow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I was twenty-one when I started smoking, when already people my age were trying to quit.... They thought I was utterly mad and they where right....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I started smoking in my late 20s when I worked in a diner. We all found out that if you smoked you got a 5 minute break every hour. Stupid, I know.
  2:31pm
Martinibomb:

honestly I almost got hooked. I was really liking drums/rolling my own. And just as I was starting like them they went out of biz for awhile. So that's what saved me hah
  2:31pm
Martinibomb:

who is this band that's playig right now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I was kicking off prescription drugs and having trouble sleeping. Then a friend suggested I'd try a sigarette before smoking... and it seemed to work...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Arthur Brown in an early incarnation :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Jan Turkenburg:

before smoking!!! meant sleeping
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Rich in Washington:

We never have cream in our house so I have to drink my tea without milk :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm
Jan Turkenburg:

having walked around on a festival for 6 hours, I'm not thinking and typing clearly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

What kind of music is at the festival? Or is it mixed?
  2:34pm
Martinibomb:

crackin' bass on this ricketts jeeez louise
  2:34pm
Martinibomb:

Kinda reminds me of The Wipers Youth of America
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Rich in Washington:

Digging this fuzzed out fretwork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is the Beaty portion of the show ;-)
  2:35pm
Martinibomb:

If I just had a band that played this kinda thing everynight I'd be in heaven
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ok, even I'm now genuinely thinking "Bloody Hell!!! This is good!! Where is this from?" Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Rich in Washington:

I'm having strong urges to get a really nasty fuzzbox. Like a Big Muff, which I had when I was a teenager.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

A Big Muff?? is that really what it's called?? LOL!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Dave Alert!!
  2:39pm
Martinibomb:

sorry.. had to go off and liste to that ricketts track one more time
  2:39pm
Martinibomb:

almost missed dave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Rich in Washington:

Yeah! It's by Electro Harmonix, who are a bit daffy. Their head inventor is really peculiar - sort of the template for today's boutique guitar pedal builder.
Jimi Hendrix used one for a spell. I bought mine from Fred Cole of Dead Moon. He told me the Hendrix thing and I believed him. He was also a master guitar/effects salesman.
Avatar 2:40pm
Otis Fodder:

Of course he did, common knowledge really. Heard that on the playground in grade two I recall.
  2:40pm
Martinibomb:

Should I include Dave in any Sheena's art I draw in the future?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thank Dave for setting me straight about the history of progrock!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Well ... I put together some possible t-shirt art featuring Mr Dave if you'd like me to post that for your delectation? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Up on the DJ group :-)
Avatar 2:44pm
Mr Fab:

Speaking of fuzz pedals: I have a lot of funny stories about when I lived down the street from Andy McCoy of Hanoi Rocks (and Iggy Pop's band, etc), but here's one exchange that took place on his front lawn:
Andy: Want to buy this Vox fuzz box?
me: No, sorry, I don't have any money right now
(screechy voice of Andy's wife from the kitchen:) But it belonged to International Rock Star Andy McCoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - LOL!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm

Hanoi Rocks - that tales me back :-)
