Over the weekend I went for a walk in the local woods. Heard nothing but noise from the nearby highway. Very discouraging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 7:32pm redkayak:

Wintertime & snowy. But still. Can't even hear the wind :(

Hey pooper!
Hi coelacanthø!
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 7:53pm northguineahills:

The cicadas and crickets just started chirping (almost to a white noise level), so, I turned off my speakers as I thought they were becoming miswired. (and then there are insects here, in this recording as well)2.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 7:55pm Jesse Kaminsky:

@northguineahills, a higher compliment I haven't received!
  Tue. 2/5/19 7:55pm pooper super:

Smackdown starts shortly
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 7:58pm coelacanth∅:

weather today was deceptive. i wanted to start pruning things but it'd be a mistake for most plants. (i could do the hollies at least)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:02pm melinda:

I find the wild temperature fluctuations discombobulating, messes with my sense of time.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:05pm northguineahills:

Yeah, my yard/garden is as loud as the Phonography_World recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:06pm redkayak:

We've had +/- 70 degree temperature swings in the past few days. Crazy.
  Tue. 2/5/19 8:07pm chresti:

Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:08pm redkayak:

@coelacanth - - winter is a good time to prune deciduous plants. At least here in the midwest. Easier to see branches & such.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:10pm Jesse Kaminsky:

hey chresti!
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:12pm northguineahills:

70 degrees F is the whole temp swing all year around here. Finally down to 67F/20C.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:16pm redkayak:

@NGH - We are living in peculiar climatic times....
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:18pm coelacanth∅:

redkayak -for sure; but some things can get seriously damaged if open wounds end up getting weeks of sub-0. (i'm in the northeast) the plum blossoms, apples, dogwoods, etc. i have to try to do all within a small window in late winter, or i take a chance. (at least this is what my research has told me. i haven't actually tested this myself)
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:20pm northguineahills:

Tarosov, new to me, and digdug (of course, anything on Sanko Recs would be) If I remember right, Sanko is Finnish for sound.

Here in FL, it may get down to 25F/-4C and up to 100F/38C. Although, it's been as low as 7F/-14C and as high as 105F/40C
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:21pm northguineahills:

Cherry Blossoms are already blooming, here.. (my car is caked in pollen).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:22pm Uncle Michael:

I'm here to plead for unity.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:24pm northguineahills:

Ooooh, David Behrman!
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:25pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Uncle Michael!
@northguinehills, he has a huge body of work, was in the Ganelin Trio for years and made some pretty cool records with Andrew Cyrille, Braxton, many others.. mainly in the free jazz idiom that I'm familiar with
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:26pm passiflora:

:)
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:28pm northguineahills:

I saw him almost a decade ago at the Lincoln Center (?) small spaces. (across the street from the main campus). Even longer ago, caught a bit of him at the Kitchen.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:29pm northguineahills:

Ok, I'm out, got a noise show to attend. Thanks Jesse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:29pm melinda:

I like On the Other Ocean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:30pm redkayak:

@coelacanth - Yikes! Good luck with that weather. Given all that, waiting for a awhile sounds prudent :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:31pm redkayak:

@NGH - Pollen? Wow. Sounds like another world....
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:36pm Jesse Kaminsky:

sounds sublime northguineahills, have a great week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:37pm Uncle Michael:

pollen and noise...that's livin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:43pm chresti:

Home now
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 8:46pm coelacanth∅:

redkayak i love it though! unfortunately it's not my property...but at least i get to take care of it.
-and actually i could prune a lot of these plants by the end of february. apples can take the freeze, to some degree; but last year a tree service came in for the apples in mid-feb (3 out of the 4 are too high for me to reach) and we ended up with no apples at all.
i plan to do the hollies and get a start on the forsythia tomorrow. they can take it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:53pm redkayak:

@coelacanth - Lucky you! I have some big time garden work to do this spring. We want to dig up and expand some flower beds that are long overdue. I can't wait to get back into it again
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 8:54pm redkayak:

@uncle michael - pollen & noise makes me think of bees :)
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:10pm coelacanth∅:

redkayak are crepe myrtles a natural thing in your area, or are they more of a southern thing? we have 2 here and they die back completely, like an herb, then later than everything else they start budding; but by august they're incredible! they'll never be as big as down south, but they're very rewarding anyway.
-curious how they do elsewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:16pm redkayak:

@coelacanth - Nope - never seen one around here (IL/WI etc). Even the Missouri Botanical Garden website sez they die to the ground down *there* even!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:18pm redkayak:

Last week here (Chicago area) we had -25 degrees. As cold as it has been in many years. Will be curious to see what the impacts were this spring...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:22pm Ike:

Testing testing
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:22pm Ike:

Yay, it works again! Hi everybody!
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:25pm Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi Ike!
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:27pm coelacanth∅:

really...missouri? i guess we've been lucky with these.
...yeah last winter was brutal here. not -25 (speaking of Yikes!) but between -10 and +5 for weeks (6?) the roses took it hard, of course; and a few things didn't pull through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:30pm redkayak:

@coelcanth - The MBG has a really good website - even though it is a couple hundred miles south :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:30pm chresti:

I think we have myrtles
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:33pm redkayak:

Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a world class reputation.....
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:33pm coelacanth∅:

i didn't know what they were at the time, chresti, but i kind of remember seeing them in ca. they're probably beautiful year-round there...if they get enough water that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:34pm chresti:

As soon as it stops raining, I get pounded with allergies
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:34pm redkayak:

Take it easy everyone - gotta run. Happy gardening :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:34pm chresti:

Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:37pm coelacanth∅:

many of my bookmarks are the mbg site. yes very useful. i've even found the san francisco site ("sfgate") useful for basic info. i do a lot of research!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:37pm chresti:

The ones here are a drought tolerant variety-
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:37pm coelacanth∅:

gnight redk! good luck with the flower beds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:38pm melinda:

I didn't know crepe myrtles could grow in the north. Far out.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:43pm coelacanth∅:

the first spring after planting them the year prior i almost dug them up in june because they still looked dead! i decided to wait a few more weeks and Voila! nearly microscopic buds!
gave them some food and by late august they were astoundingly beautiful in appearance and aroma.
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:45pm coelacanth∅:

... this isn't as far north as you though, melinda. this is my sister's property in ct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:45pm Uncle Michael:

say hello to my leeetle friends...I mean...microscopic buds...
Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:48pm coelacanth∅:

haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:49pm chresti:

Avatar Tue. 2/5/19 9:59pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 2/5/19 9:59pm Uncle Michael:
