Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:28am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.

I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.

Richard Brautigan (1967, while poet-in-residence at Cal Tech)

Wikip. says that Elektra Folk Sampler was the first-ever sampler LP.

@TDK: Wow, really? More evidence of the genius of Jac Holzman.

That Elektra Folk Sampler was totally seminal for me. Track 1, "Josie" by Ed McCurdy is also a great story song, based on "Frankie & Johnny."

@Hughie: I just got my copy last year, but it's a thoroughly great collection and for 1956 the fidelity is astonishing.

@Joe: Allegedly Noel Hill of Planxty described the Pogues' music as "a terrible abortion" during a radio panel with them, so they recorded a traditional track in response

@Barney: How funny! That's what trad people said about Planxty in the early 70s!

What a morning, Joe. Thanks for the soundtrack to a day-before presentation preparation, kept us sane here. See you and all next time round the block.

It really is @Joe. And it does my heart good to know I'm not alone in loving that LP. So many good ones. Alan Arkin's "Crawdad Song" is sublime.
