Good Hello Everybody!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:02pm Martinibomb:

Hiya Rich! omfg I'm reading the scariest article in the Atlantic about what our prez can do with emergency power.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:03pm Don-O:

Out president can now sneeze without a kleenex!!! LOOK OUT!!!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:04pm Mr Fab:

Hey all! Will I be getting a moist towelette?
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:05pm Don-O:

Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:05pm Martinibomb:

bwhahah yes he can -- I think we'll all need moist towelette's when this is over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:07pm Rich in Washington:

I really hate the sound of t's voice but played a really super stretched out recording of his wall speech last night on my show.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:09pm Martinibomb:

Does that make him more pleasant to listen to? I bet you can understand him better hahah
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:10pm Don-O:

Unless you can use Audocity to change his voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:10pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm waving at you from over by the Sinclair Dinosaur.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:10pm Mr Fab:

I love World's Fair stuff. I have quite a bit of Seattle's Century 21 Fair music, but none from this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:11pm Webhamster Henry:

My family went to the fair for my 9th birthday. It was the debut of the Superball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:11pm Rich in Washington:

Do they still do futuristic world's fairs anymore? Or have they embraced dystopia as a theme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is wonderful. I loooooooove any kind of field recordings - enjoying this lot!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:13pm Don-O:

Rich, being that The Future is NOW, I suspect it's not so Century 21-ish anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:13pm Rich in Washington:

Dystopian future has always been under our noses all along. We're soaking in it. Only the very rich get to live in utopia. Third world dystopia will spread all around us until it's everywhere and the very rich live in impenetrable citadels.
Now here's Bill with the weather...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:15pm Webhamster Henry:

@Rich in Washington - not recently, but back in 1993, there was a big, futuristic Science Fair in Taejon (now spelled Daejon) Korea:

Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:15pm Mr Fab:

We have to look to the past for futurism...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:15pm Webhamster Henry:

I worked on an exhibit for Nam June Park's pavillion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:16pm Yvang:

The future was better back then, Hi everyone!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:17pm Don-O:

I'm getting flashes of the Journal Of Ride Theory and their Wold's Fair issue. His take on the worse WF is great. BTW, the Knoxville WF was voted as the worse and yet the one in New Orleans wasn't mentioned, a slight disappointment there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:18pm Webhamster Henry:

It looks like there still are expos though!

Na June Paik that is, Mr. Autocorrect.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:19pm Mr Fab:

That's cool Henry, I love Na June Paik
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:20pm Don-O:

For the novice, this site offers great information on the fair...and how much the man behind it, Robert Moses, was a SOB: www.nywf64.com...
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:20pm Mr Fab:

Do an image search for "1964 futurama". You'll be glad you did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:22pm Webhamster Henry:

You can read all about Bob Moses and the Fair in "THE POWER BROKER", which you should read anyway.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:24pm Don-O:

Just think, JFK was assassinated during the fair. What does that tell ya!!!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:26pm Don-O:

......and the Church Of The SubGenius was REALLY born!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:26pm Webhamster Henry:

No he wasn't, JFK was already dead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:27pm Webhamster Henry:

The mini model of NYC can be seen in the Queens Museum, it's fantastic!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:28pm Don-O:

I went to NYC ten years ago and checked out the Queen's Museum. It was pretty damned cool.

You got me. It's all P. R. Talk....
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:30pm Mr Fab:

My mom grew up in Flushing. She visited the fair quite a bit she told me.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:36pm Don-O:

If there's one thing I have leaned while I was putting this together: Never go to the fair with Pat Bone. A real prude....he must be related to Lawrence Welk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:37pm Webhamster Henry:

I suppose you'll be getting to THE TRIUMPH OF MAN which I played obsessively for a few years after the Fair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:38pm Rich in Washington:

Never experienced any kind of World's Fair or Expo kind of thing but as a kid in '78 or so our class got to tour Trojan Nuclear Power Plant and its creepy, Orwellian visitor's pavilion, including this sinister 360 degree film speil about atomic power and how any of its critics were essentially Neanderthals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:38pm Yvang:

"Have you ever walked from Mexico to NYC?" "Well in the future an orange president will try to make it impossible for you!"
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:39pm Don-O:

Henry: in a future NYWF episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:40pm Webhamster Henry:

Well the fair went on for months, so let's let it go on in real time!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:47pm Mr Fab:

Rich, sounds like the Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas. Def recommended - lots of Atom Age memorabilia, a mock bunker with simulated nuke explosion! But they def try to push the position that nukes were necessary for our freedom, bla bla bla.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:49pm Rich in Washington:

The whole Trojan thing was to convince people that they could have a working nuclear generation facility right on the river, in a beautiful countryside. No ill effects, etc. Then Three Mile Island happened and before too long, they shut down and decommissioned the Trojan, which never managed to get beyond it's experimental phase and output any power to the grid. It was also not seismically up to snuff, if memory serves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 6:55pm Rich in Washington:

These recordings are fantastic, Don-O!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:56pm Mr Fab:

Did he just say they feature "industrial music"?!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:58pm Don-O:

Thanks Rich! I got this collection JUST before my NYC trip and listen to some of this in my old MP3 player while visiting Flushing Park. A time traveling trip.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:58pm Martinibomb:

I didn't realize Trojan never really got onto the grid. I was a little kid down in southern oregon only hearing about it here and there
Avatar Fri. 1/11/19 6:59pm Don-O:

RIIIIIICH!!!! www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 7:00pm Rich in Washington:

I could be wrong, but that was my understanding. I would like to read more about it. It loomed large in 70s/80s SW Washington history.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/19 7:02pm Webhamster Henry:

This collection is so definitive! Thanks, not Crap at all!
