Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from July 27, 2018 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Thanks for asking, Brian in UK. I didn't make it to the record store Doug recommended, due to work and family obligations. Weather was oppressive, but not without a sense of humor. I took the kids "dragon-boating" at the Inner Harbor on Sunday at the precise moment a ten minute squall struck. We were soaked to the skin, top to bottom. It was hilarious. Dined well, including on my wedding anniversary. Wife and kids had a great time. I spent a lot of time in generic convention center meeting rooms.
  12:38pm

Also, on the day we left Baltimore, we taxied from the gate just as another storm struck. We were stuck on the tarmac for two hours before take-off. Such fun.

Got various perspectives and judgments on Eagles and their songs, but I Can't Tell You Why is one which I don't stop to closely appraise regarding pedigree or elements. It's just familiar, with some period associations and there's NO natural force that could stop the car-singing of it.

Speaking of Miller and singing familiar things -- a friend asked me up to sing King of the Road at a pub gig recently, and after more than half a century of exposure to the song , I made a hash of the effort....a mumbly, gappy HASH!

Thought about recommending drinking a Frye's Leap IPA while jumping off Frye's Leap cliff into Sebago Lake, and checked for video visuals, and in the queued YouTube "up next" videos, one thumbnail was of Pufnstuf! Cosmically linky.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
Uncle Michael:

I've played White Bird on the show, Annie. It's gorgeous. One of the issues with It's A Beautiful Day is that the vinyl was out of print for decades and the CD issue was very late in coming too.

Chris M played white bird on his show. i think it took a few people off guard!

Very true, Oscar, though in Dave's case, the root issue was he was stupid/insane.

if there WERE such a thing as "guilty pleasures", Benny Goodman would be one of mine, i guess - based on having gotten made fun of for liking him.

Coel, I don't think of Benny Goodman as a guilty pleasure-he was a great clarinetist, recorded terrific small and big band music, hired great sideman.
