Hey Geezerette!
  Wed. 4/4/18 10:04pm still b/p:

There was a Globetrotters Saturday cartoon show...that’s what the theme reminds me of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:05pm Funky16Corners:

Hey SBP! That's the theme from the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:06pm coelacanth∅:

hey Larry, geez, sb/p ...

Greetings from Green Bay, where we have dug out from the record 8 inches of snow received yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:08pm Funky16Corners:

Hey C! Hey Jeff! No snow here but CRAZY wind.
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 10:09pm Jeff Ash:

Yeah, we sent that your way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:09pm Funky16Corners:

It was 65 this afternoon but got much colder.

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:11pm Scraps:

missed Harlem Globetrotters theme. Is that “Sweet Georgia Brown”, or another song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:12pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Scraps! No, the theme from the cartoon show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:14pm coelacanth∅:

snow rain wind snow rain wind...today's the wind. a few days ago we got 5-6" of snow in the morning and it was pretty much gone by 2 pm. a few weeks ago the snow was so wet and heavy then it froze for days that i'll get at least 4 weeks of employment out of it. (at least)
it still makes me sad...as if humans aren't (more directly) responsible for a serious deficiency of trees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:15pm Funky16Corners:

We lost a lot of cedar/pine etc during that wet snow
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:21pm coelacanth∅:

my sister did too, as well as hemlock, tamarack, plum, etc damage; ayoung eastern redbud that will live but now has a weird shape...and a giant, ancient crab apple that went from 4 major trunks down to one. it was a most amazing tree, with horizontal branches extending maybe 50'; now it's just a weird old thing waiting to die.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:23pm Funky16Corners:

It's a shame. The last time we had this much damage was during Hurricane Sandy where one house lost five big cedars in a row. We were spare but have mainly oak and maple
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:25pm coelacanth∅:

our family used to gather around the tv once (or maybe twice) a year for those globetrotter specials where they played a serious team and ostensibly won by miles and flustered the refs to no end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:25pm Scraps:

Good god, the “Harlem Globetrotters Theme” for the animated show (which I watched; I was six) was written by Jeff Barry, who supervised the album, and got Neil Sedaka, etc, to write other songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:26pm Funky16Corners:

I loved the Simpson's episode where Homer went to a Globetrotters game and bet on the Generals
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:27pm coelacanth∅:

...my sister lost a few trees in the big hurricanes in the last 6 years, but all in all suffered more damage from this snow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:28pm Funky16Corners:

The township was coming around collecting brush and downed branches from the storm

i don't remember the cartoon so well. during those games they whistled sweet georgia brown the whole time! that shit stuck in my head for months!

There's a 45 of that credited to Brother Bones
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:31pm coelacanth∅:

“Chika-chika-boom....Globetrotters...” was the only bit a buddy and I could recall from the song, and would amuse our junior high age selves by singing that bit lamely and randomly.

Ben Bernie had the original five-week run at #1 in 1925. Old!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:36pm Funky16Corners:

Ben Bernie who's trademark was 'Yowsah! Yowsah! Yowsah!'

Borrowed by Chic in the disco era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:40pm Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed! I first saw Bernie do it as a cartoon caricature in a Warner Brothers cartoon. My father had to explain it to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:40pm Parq:

I had this Marty Thau album, but the version of Shadow Line I really remember is the one in Urrgh. (Urghh? I'm too lazy to look it up.) That was the only segment in the whole movie that was shot at CB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:41pm coelacanth∅:

Parq - The Marty Thau version was the original, followed by a fuller version on Roman Gods
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:43pm Parq:

F16C, I love that "Ben Birdie" cartoon! They all float away at the end on a sea of Helen Kane's tears. "Coo-Coo Nuts Grove", wasn't it? That's where I got one of my pet expressions "Well, well and well!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:43pm Funky16Corners:

I think so. I'll have to dig out my WB DVDs and rewatch. I love some of the now-obscure caricatures.
  Wed. 4/4/18 10:47pm Doctorjazz:

DEL Shannon, huh? Would never have guessed.
  Wed. 4/4/18 10:48pm Doctorjazz:

He's screamed past his limit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:49pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, that is a rager of a 45, with suspect fidelity, but enough energy to kick ass into the middle of next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:50pm Scraps:

Love “Shadow Line”, though otherwise I don't like the Fleshtones nearly so much as I ought, apparently.
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 10:55pm Jeff Ash:

I bought this Nat Stuckey LP after you wrote about it.

@Scraps - Did you ever see the Fleshtones live?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 10:58pm northguineahills:

Forgot to say hi! Counted my tomatoes and tomatillo fruits already growing. (one of the few advantages of living in FL).

Haven't heard this version!

Hey NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:00pm northguineahills:

There's a bathroom on the right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:01pm Funky16Corners:

Hmmmm, I wonder why there weren't more country versions of 'In the Year 2525'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:03pm coelacanth∅:

this one was kinda asking for it
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:03pm Funky16Corners:

CREEDENCE make for good country material.

You can actually understand all the words!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:05pm northguineahills:

Green River, and underratedl late 80s/early 90s Seattle band.. (didn't hear of them until 95.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:05pm Funky16Corners:

I wonder is there was ever a country tribute comp for Creedence?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:06pm coelacanth∅:

well, he's changed many of the words.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:07pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, the reference to Commander Cody is kind of cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:08pm coelacanth∅:

ha i didn't even catch that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:09pm coelacanth∅:

that was jarring
...i think i got the drummer stream over here
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:09pm Funky16Corners:

What was?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:11pm coelacanth∅:

- i had the volume WAYYY up because the levels have been so low. this is not your program i'm hearing
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:12pm coelacanth∅:

...damn, i'd really like to hear a county version of "someday..." too!
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 11:13pm Jeff Ash:

Yeah, there's a glitch. Stream is playing Baloji.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:13pm northguineahills:

Yeah, lost the stream and got some afro-francophone club-friendly pop diddy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:13pm Parq:

I'm getting the show on the stream okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:15pm Parq:

Wait, no I'm not. This is definitely not "Someday We'll Be Together." Some sort of screamer rave up, segueing into an acoustic slide guitar blues song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:16pm coelacanth∅:

now we've got old country blues gospel.
  Wed. 4/4/18 11:16pm Doctorjazz:

Listening on FMU phone app with no problem.
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 11:17pm Jeff Ash:

Yep, Ralph Nielsen and the Chancellors on that rave-up, and now Lil McClintock on that old country gospel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:17pm coelacanth∅:

...for a second i thought it was a country blues style cover of "country death song" by violent femmes!
  Wed. 4/4/18 11:17pm Dean:

I'm here, but listening to a Schumann recital CD, rather than 'FMU. Sounds fine.
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 11:18pm Jeff Ash:

Dang technical difficulties. So it goes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:18pm northguineahills:

It's working now.

Met some folks from Seagirt, NJ that said they had to drive 15 miles north to pick up the 91.1 signal before they moved here. Active donors (that makes three people I've met here that actively donate).
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:18pm Funky16Corners:

Are you guys still getting a signal?
  Wed. 4/4/18 11:18pm Doctorjazz:

I'm getting country blues, think I'm on the stream now as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:18pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:19pm northguineahills:

Wait, are we, it's hard to tell, you're show mirror's Doug's stream.

Stream seems goobered up. Some other show cut into your stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:20pm coelacanth∅:

(Doug's music, that is)
  Wed. 4/4/18 11:20pm still b/p:

  Wed. 4/4/18 11:21pm Funky16corners:

I should be back in a few
Avatar Wed. 4/4/18 11:22pm Jeff Ash:

This is Margo Guryan for those listening to the outlaw stream. Before that was Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:22pm coelacanth∅:

most of Doug's collection is worthy; but i think i'll use this opportunity to relocate to the basement.

She was a New Orleans singer, made one great but neglected 45 in the mid 60s, sang backup on a lot of other people's records, then made this album in 1969. It was bold move to do a whole side like this. I think it's amazing

sun moon & herbs, definitely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:39pm Funky16Corners:

She had a 1966 single 'I'm Gonna Run Away From You' produced by Bert Berns that is a big Northern Soul record, it even entered the UK charts in 1972 or 1973. Oddly enough it's included on this album
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:41pm Funky16Corners:

You can tell that this part was produced and arranged by the same guy that did 'Mr Big Stuff' by Jean Knight.
  Wed. 4/4/18 11:41pm still b/p:

Waited til done as sort of a maybe-courtesy: Noticed the “and oh my darling” melody line in Love Is Here is similar to the second line of the Starry Starry Night verse, and then couldn’t stop hearing the near match, which I never noticed over the years of hearing hit version of Love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:42pm Funky16Corners:

spurred by a conversation about Satie, somehow, i just listened to most of this album a week ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:50pm Funky16Corners:

I love this record. Nothing else like it in their catalog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

maybe Tami Lynn felt the time was right for an epic, side-long track because of the relative success of "hot buttered soul", and "by the time i get to phoenix"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:52pm Funky16Corners:

I think that's a valid theory. Why it didn't hit, and why they didn't follow it up (she didn't make another album until 1992) boggles the mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:55pm coelacanth∅:

is she still among us? maybe she's got another one in her yet!

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 4/4/18 11:59pm coelacanth∅:

why was i thinking Simon & Garfunkel used a Satie recording in one of their songs? (maybe because they used "silent night"?) ...but somebody did and it's frustrating to not remember!
