Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 1/20/18 11:52am patrick321:

Petty had a fractured hip and as he continued the 50+ date tour the fracture progressed to a full break which is said to be hideously painful. He seems to have been taking a wide variety of drugs for pain, and apparently wasn't as careful as he should've been.
  Sat. 1/20/18 11:54am Bill in W.O.:

Blood Oranges, nice! Wish they could get Cheri Knight to play a reunion.
  Sat. 1/20/18 11:54am clarke:

okay patrick - that might be true, but also petty has had opiate addiction issues in the past. all MS is saying is that the news was used improperly - he isn't judging petty
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Sat. 1/20/18 11:56am Michael Shelley:

Patrick - ... I think he was a drug addict who (in his addiction, and his physical pain) chose to take way too may drugs.
  Sat. 1/20/18 11:56am Jimmy D:

WOW! Use to see the Blood Oranges every time they played in Boston and Cambridge during the 80's/90's. What a band. Thanks, Michael!

Re. Blood Oranges, I saw them play a reunion show in 2001, and I've heard about a one-off or two, but my understanding has been that Cheri Knight put music behind her and hasn't wanted to do it again. Shame, and her two solo records are top-notch. https://www.riverfronttimes.com/stlouis/twang-time/Content?oid=2471652
  Sat. 1/20/18 12:02pm Guy Walker:

Michael, I hear you. At the University of New Mexico and at Harvard new research has spurred on new studies of N,N-Dimethyltryptamine. More and more DNA evidence concludes our ancestors imbibed. John Allegro in his very flawed translations in Christianity And The Sacred Mushroom illustrated correctly humankind has a deep connection to other realms through the intake of certain plants. The political ramifications over the centuries have complicated humankind's relationship with these plants. The synthetic man made chemicals that kill every day are the problem. A full DMT experience not only satisfies, it sobers to what is a truly creative response.

Via CNN: “The medical examiner's news release said the autopsy found these drugs in Petty's system: fentanyl, oxycodone, acetyl fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, which are opioids; temazepam and alprazolam, which are sedatives; and citalopram, an antidepressant.”

@patrick321: Exactly. If you miss him, like his music and such, fine. But don’t delude yourself. Touring with a fractured hip and taking all of that stuff? That is just not right. I genuinely want to know why he toured in that state. I can’t imagine it to be financial pressure.
