Bit of a mad dash to change platforms but I made it.
Hi David.

I think I need to catch a Westbound Number Nine.
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:19pm still b/p:

Just for the hell of it in mass transit matters (just looked at some pics of these this afternoon in a months old Globe magazine, but I saw them growing up), on some trip to Boston I gotta ride the Pullman Standard trolley cars still in use on one line. Designed in the 30s, put into service in the 40s, still rollin'. I remember reading years ago how MBTA mechanics had to go DIY to improv and replicate things and rely on long experience, because there ain't been no supplier for some parts on those vintage cars for many moons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:23pm David D:

All transit matters here - thanks still b/p! Greetings Henry, Hilmar, Michael: Neue Westen für alle!
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:30pm still b/p:

That's good, because I don't think the trolleys really get in subway tunnels, and I don't want to get all of us into an Above v. Below Ground fan punch-up here like a bunch of soccer hooligans.
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:35pm glenn:

streetcar or trolley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 10/17/17 4:37pm doctorjazz:

Onda Vaga track fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:38pm David D:

I grew up wondering why the Subway was above ground so often. Anyhow, share those tracks, I say!
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:38pm still b/p:

Don't know the protocol of nomenclature. Call 'em trolleys here:
www.bostonglobe.com...
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:39pm glenn:

streetcars have tracks and metal wheels. trolleys have rubber tires.
Avatar    Tue. 10/17/17 4:40pm Sem Chumbo:

Good evening, David, Subway-ers. Cooking and listening, sounds pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:42pm David D:

We have lots of streetcars here usually called trams in "Internationalese"/English or Straßenbahn in German. All very confusing. Nothing trolley-like though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:42pm David D:

Thanks, Sem - welcome aboard!
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:47pm still b/p:

There are trolleys and trolley buses with rubber tires. But plenty of both trolleys and streetcars back in the day were metal wheels on tracks. Now we're gonna rumble about transit systems after all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:49pm Parq:

Still, you cannot believe how I came to hate those things in my five years in Boston. If they are still running on one line, I feel sorry for the folks on that line.
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:53pm still b/p:

Because they were slow, breakdowny and uncomfortable? They got the heat and AC now, but still slow.
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:53pm glenn:

the biggest problem with streetcars is the cars in front of them, for the most part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:55pm Parq:

Also ugly. You forgot ugly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:55pm Parq:

I remember a shudder when seeing them in a movie set in Montreal -- Duddy Kravitz, I think.
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:56pm glenn:

great movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:56pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm terrified of the Amsterdam trams - they come up rather suddenly on narrow streets!
Avatar Tue. 10/17/17 4:56pm glenn:

and a pretty good book. mordecai richler wa brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 4:57pm Webhamster Henry:

He should reward himself w/ a trip to Havana!
  Tue. 10/17/17 5:18pm melinda:

I like this song. First heard the melody as Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her on a sea shanty album my family had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:20pm David D:

I'm always amazed to rediscover familiar melodies in completely different songs, often in different languages. Or sometimes it just sounds familiar and I can't quite place my finger on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:20pm David D:

Speaking of the region, ngh, how are things clearing up?
  Tue. 10/17/17 5:20pm melinda:

Me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 10/17/17 5:21pm Stanley:

Ah, Aly Bain. Scotland's finest. Mucho enjoying.
  Tue. 10/17/17 5:22pm melinda:

Although it's less surprising with the traditional American and British Isles tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:22pm northguineahills:

I shouldn't have liked The Green Fields of America, but I really did, almost had a later 70s Fairport sound.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:26pm northguineahills:

Hopefully, all of the debris will be picked up soon (they been doing little by little each week, but fallen trees are expensive to move, and I think FEMA is finally is providing money for pickup, as the city has nearly broken its bank cleaning up already. I nearly hit a large branch that rolled from a pile of debris last night. There are still utility workers out everywhere, but now I suspect they are getting the infrastructure back to normal rather then rush patch jobs I witnessed earlier. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:27pm David D:

Greetings, coelacanth∅, Stanley, and everyone else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 5:30pm David D:

@NGH: Glad to hear things are moving along in any case. It is bound to take a long time to get it all right again.

I knew this was Zorn, this is the album that introduced me to Morricone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 6:07pm David D:

That is fantastic - and fitting, as it is also the album that apparently introduced a lot of people to Zorn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 6:09pm Webhamster Henry:

I actually saw this movie only in German, titled "Spiel mir das Lied von Tod!"

Agree with DocJazz, great set!
Great film too!

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 10/17/17 6:13pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 6:14pm David D:

And thanks, Geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/17/17 6:49pm northguineahills:
