Hey Tony, listeners and tapes!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Yvang!

The tapes told me to say hello back to you....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 12:08pm JtotheK:

hi tony, hi everyone! enjoyed the show last week. and also the week before - guest host DDDJJJ666 provides a lot of witty comment board chatter and fun tunes!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:09pm listener james from westwood:

in since the git-go but wrasslin' groceries--hey ho all!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:09pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, JtotheK!

Yes, indeedy, Thom is always reliably entertaining....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:10pm Tony Coulter:

Hey hey, James!

When groceries attack.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/11/17 12:15pm doctorjazz:

Interesting there were still cassette only releases in 1989, I thought most folks ditched their cassette players by then.
Hi all!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:15pm geezerette:

Good West Coast morning, Tony!
Howdy,fellow tape heads!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:16pm listener james from westwood:

I was getting the upper hand until the frozen ravioli formed a wedge and stormed my front lines. I mean, there were 50 of them.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:16pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, doctorjazz!

Actually, the cassette underground thing continued on until maybe the mid-'90s -- I guess because it was still the cheapest, fastest way to release music.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:17pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, geezerette!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:22pm Tony Coulter:

Funny to think that Yugoslavia only had three more years of being a country when this tape came out....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 12:25pm Carmichael:

Heya Tony and Hissers.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:25pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Tony! Nice shortie there! I used to have a bunch of 30 min, 20 min and continuous loop tapes!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, Carmichael!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

Webham! Greets!

I've even got some 5-or-so-minute tapes -- though that is a bit ridiculous.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:27pm geezerette:

Wow,"Doomsday" was prescient .
We have a small globe from the '50s with lots of places that are now other places...
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:35pm Tony Coulter:

Oh: The tape on now is the black-and-white one in the middle.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:37pm Webhamster Henry:

I have some really worthless Yugo Dinars.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:38pm Tony Coulter:

I'll trade you for 'em. I can give you liras or marks.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

As I mentioned (on mic), Pascal Liguoro is part of the Collectif & Cie ‎crew. Maybe the best known of 'em is Lieutenant Caramel.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:48pm geezerette:

It's like snorkeling thru space.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:48pm geezerette:

:)
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 12:52pm Yvang:

I am sure I will enjoy side B as much as I enjoyed side A!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 1:03pm JtotheK:

Also very much enjoyed that side!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:04pm Tony Coulter:

As far as I know, this is Pascal Liguoro's only full-length release, tho he is on a few comps.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:11pm Webhamster Henry:

This is good and blippy!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:12pm Tony Coulter:

Didn't ask people to guess the LP underneath today's cassettes -- partly because too little of the cover is visible, and partly because it's a horrible record I'll be getting rid of as soon as possible. But, well, here it is anyhow: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 1:13pm JtotheK:

tony, please press up a few hundred LPs of this cassette and have available to us. from what I read online, pressing plants are way below capacity and should be able to complete this work order in a day or two. thanks!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:13pm Tony Coulter:

JtotheK: Ha! I wish.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 1:14pm JtotheK:

"horrible record i'll be getting rid of as soon as possible" ... do i detect a future themed show?
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:15pm Cheyenne:

Howdy Tony & hiss-listeners! Anyone else gettin their slurpee on today?
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:16pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

PEEPLE.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:16pm Yvang:

By the way : excellent sound quality for a 30 years old cassette played through the interwebs pipes.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:16pm Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: Yeah, I guess I could have a thumbs up/thumbs down segment, in which you could determine whether or not I get rid of something.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:17pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, Cheyenne ... and Turnip!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 1:17pm JtotheK:

b/w
never heard of Baba Jaga. I /have/ heard of Baba Yaga (and have the 'On the Edge' 1978 LP) cool jazz/rock from Portland!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:17pm geezerette:

@Yvang: agree!
  Tue. 7/11/17 1:17pm Mark Williams:

enjoying this Liguoro, Tony.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

@Yvang: agreed re sound quality. Partly it's because, for once, the dolby-ization really works ... unlike the upcoming tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 1:18pm JtotheK:

@cheyenne - now i have the groovy 7-11 slurpee song going thru my noggin...
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark!!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:22pm northguineahills:

No, I don't need proof of Utah. I'm still hoping against hope it's all fiction! (this is nice!)
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:23pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Yep, on the Dolby thing. Went through most of my days in that scene ('85-'99ish) ruining everything with Dolby B. Dreadful high-end killer. BUT STILL! this Utah is lovely.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, NGH!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

@ Turnip: Yeah, this tape is a real damned if you do/damned if you don't scenario when it comes to its dolby B-ness. Some tracks sound better w/out the dolby, some really don't. Decided to go with the dolby....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

And, of course, the tape does claim it's been dolby-ized....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:30pm Tony Coulter:

So ... turn your treble way up, everyone....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:32pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Mister Burke!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:34pm geezerette:

Open Sea brings images of Arctic exploration.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:41pm geezerette:

Today's play list is full of sound equivalents of Abstract Expressionist painting in that it's evocative of many things at once but no one thing in particular. I love that. Plenty of space for the mind to roam.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:42pm Tony Coulter:

Nicely said, geezerette....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:42pm geezerette:

:)
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Speaking of Illusion Of Safety connections: caught Cheer-Accident down here couple weeks ago -- jolly good fun, as always..
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 7/11/17 1:54pm doctorjazz:

This Surreal Dreams Purge...tape is great, have to say!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

Glad you like it, doctor J!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Jumped the gun a bit, there, for the Les Souplard Torves track
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:06pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for digging this out, it's good afternoon music!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

JM in the AM .... EM in the PM....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:12pm glenn:

today is a sad, sad day. kermit the frog has a new voice.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:14pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, Glenn. My condolences for your loss. Is Gilbert Gottfried the new Kermit?
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:26pm glenn:

gerrrck. heaven forfend.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:35pm Tony Coulter:

Side B of this tape is more sinister than side A -- it's the nihilist nightmare side, I guess.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:39pm geezerette:

Sounds of contemporary life.
Rearranged as music.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:41pm northguineahills:

Actually like this Dau-Straun. Surprised I recognized some bands Tony is playing (Illusion of Safety & Klimperei).
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

Dau-Straun had a vinyl releases in the early 90s -- a single: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:45pm Tony Coulter:

"vinyl release"
  Tue. 7/11/17 2:46pm Mark Williams:

yeah, this is a nice compilation, I have to say.
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:51pm Tony Coulter:

It is very nicely sequenced. Has an overall character and mood -- as many of the best comps do.
  Tue. 7/11/17 2:55pm Mark Williams:

precisely and nicely (to quote an ON-U Sound release...).
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:56pm geezerette:

Thanks Tony, great show!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:56pm Cheyenne:

Thanks Tony! Here's the Net Neutrality special link! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 7/11/17 2:57pm JtotheK:

enjoyed the show, thanks Tony!
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:57pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, everybody! See you next week.....
Avatar Tue. 7/11/17 2:57pm northguineahills:

Thanks Tony!
