I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

It's a re-interpretation of a day in Disneyland on Play Vertigo today! Extended to 3 hours because Disneyland was a bit too big to cover in 2 hours... |
![]() |
![]() Good afternoon Mayuko, James and others. Pretty annoyed to be here today: the Vaudou Game show is sold out. Worse: the Kakushin Nishihara show in late November is already sold out too! I really didn't see that coming |
![]() |
![]() Made a small donation to the local poker economy, but enjoyed myself a ton and didn't do a lick of work! And happy to have three hours today—will be working alongside! |

Ha, I see! The designers need to argue for a couple of years how they define what TWLVP is first - like Disney's imagineers did for Rivers of America. I saw a bunch of people having super detailed discussion on the internet about the renewal of Rivers of America. Looking at its sketch from architectural point of view, etc. And they're not even staffers, just fans. They must be people like your friend, Dean! I was overwhelmed! |
Sat. 10/8/16 1:32pm

I rode this so many times when I was a kid, I never got tired of it. When you're little, these rides are like a dream you're having while awake. Then I dreamed about them in my sleep later...
![]() |
![]() @Jason: I think I remember that name. Did you play him on your show? |
Sat. 10/8/16 1:33pm
Dean:
My only memories of Disneyland are quite old. I haven't been since high school in the mid-'70s. By then I was jaded. Yeah, my buddy was seriously into the place, kept track of all the "secrets" such as the hidden Mickeys (which, come to think of it, would make a good band name).

famous original italianicewolf, welcome aboard! It's always fun to have your ride get stuck in Disneyland unless it's roller coaster... or even roller coaster... I watched a video someone took in Space Mountain, they got stacked and all the light turned on. That was funny. |

P-90 Many rides in Disneyland sure cultivated many of my dreams as a child too! And I think especially since I lived in a monocultural country, just to visually see that there are many different cultures and worlds out there was inspiring. The cool thing about the Teacups, they're one of the first rides they came up with unique to disneyland, is that kids can ride them when they're very little, but they're interactive: the kids can spin those wheels in the center and have some control over the speed and direction of the spinning cup they're getting dizzy in
Sat. 10/8/16 2:03pm

Now that you mention it... I believe one of those friends was the one who loaned a copy Fear and Loathing to me.

P-90:
@rw right? It's great to give little kids that chance to have some control of the ride

Anybody remember the now forgotten metaphor, "E ticket"?
Sat. 10/8/16 2:08pm

Sat. 10/8/16 2:09pm
Dean:
I know three people who worked at Disneyland, and I'm married to one of them.
Sat. 10/8/16 2:10pm
P-90:
@Dean: some older writers still occasionally use that metaphor
Sat. 10/8/16 2:11pm
Dean:
Even today? That's impressive.
Sat. 10/8/16 2:11pm
P-90:
Aaaaw, now I'm really jealous! I wanna marry someone who worked at Disneyland!
Sat. 10/8/16 2:12pm
Dean:
Unfortunately, P-90, the two others are spoken for.

![]() It was weird hearing of kinect as new, because a coworker did an installation using it around 5 years ago, and he wasn't impressed. Then again I work in a research lab |
Sat. 10/8/16 2:17pm
P-90:
I liked Frontierland, coonskin caps and cigar-store indians, beavers, bears, canoes. It was a vision of our national myth of the history of the colonization of the Americas. It was OK. But I didn't love it the way I loved Tomorrowland.
![]() |
![]() Looks like my pledge isn't showing up in your total. Probably because I split it with Marcel and the crappy software can't handle the options it offers. No worries, it all ends up in the right place |
Sat. 10/8/16 2:23pm
rw:
Man, I've got a good story about taking my son and his friend to Disneyland when they were little. It's probably too long to tell here though... not sure if it would make sense typed out either...

oh no fred! sorry about this pledge turmoil again... but I really appreciate your support, been since the very beginning of Play Vertigo! And I guess Kinect really isn't new, I know someone who's used it before I left Tokyo too... but I guess it's becoming more popular... |
Sat. 10/8/16 2:28pm
P-90:
Dean:please tell me your wife was inside Minnie Mouse. Or Daisy Duck...?

![]() I've never been to any Disneyland park. The closest I got was when a friend was living near the French one. It was eerie seeing it while walking along fields in the early morning after a party. Also weird was taking an early bus to their train station and seeing workers going into the place. Didn't look like a happy one at that hour |

Ray Bradbury used to visit the Imagineers all the time. He always wore shorts. |

![]() @Mayuko: It's OK, I know that who gets credited doesn't matter, and that you believe me when I say I support your show. But I'll keep an eye on whether Marcel gets credited for my pledge. I'll write to Ken about the pledge system anyway, I just want to have as much feedback as I can |

![]() I remember the Disney TV show on Sunday evenings. I wanted them to air cartoons each week. |
![]() |
![]() Both "doubloon" and "duplicate" translate to "doublon" in French. My boss trusts google translate more than me, so he always hypes his music ID tech as enabling people to find doubloons. It's tough to stand behind him looking bored when half the audience is stifling laughs |

@DJ Mayuko: you were absolutely right, this had to be a 3-hour special, there's no way to do justice to this concept in 2 hours. Thank you!
![]() |
![]() Thanks Mayuko, you should do a 3-hour show every week, as Jason wisely said this would at least be more than your commute time. And it's not just your goal, it's ours too. With Nachum leaving, we all need to help making the station we love outlast this new crisis |

Eventually the "Baroque Hoedown" guys did make an arrangement. It's part of the reason they switched to a "bullshit" imitation, they had to send a check every month, for each of the parks. And you can't blame Old Walt, he had been gone for several years, it was some of his jerk successors who thought they should try to get away with taking the music from this obscure 1967 record and not pay royalties...
