Informal poll:

Am I wrong to put ketchup on hot dogs?

I had a friend describe it a "crime against food," and it made me feel like my whole life has been one huge mistake...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
coelacanth:

good morning Chris and figments
  11:01am
Ben:

Ketchup on hotdogs is appropriate, people who say other wise are one of those anti ketchup propagandists who hope to one day start a nation without ketchup
Avatar 11:01am
Chris M.:

@Claw!: people who tell you what to like are snobs. they're the ones making a mistake! i'm talking to you, Chicago! you cover your hot dogs with everything under the sun and then get mad when people put ketchup on it? I DON'T THINK SO.
Avatar 11:02am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Very formal answer:
It is absolutely wrong to bitch on other people's food habits.
Have ice-cream on yr.damned hotdog if you so choose. And let the head-space terrorists scurry about in fear and confusion!
  11:03am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am
coelacanth:

hey Bear!!

i don't think there's anything you can do to a hot dog that can be called a crime against food!
Avatar 11:04am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

At the age of 16, I was accused of being ANTI-AMERICAN for preferring to jab fries in tartar sauce. Hell, it was different. And evidently made me an enemy of the state. I still don't understand that.
  11:05am
Claw!:

I also really enjoy ketchup on my scrambled eggs.

I am very pro-ketchup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
coelacanth:

...but really- yesterday i had on a (veggie) dog: swiss cheese, saurkraut, and chipotle mayo.
...crime?
(well,my spelling may be a crime)
  11:06am
Dean:

Nice coincidence. My email inbox was just solicited with an announcement of a "bootleg series" of recordings of Tangerine Dream. I had a sudden taste to hear them, and hearing them I am.
Avatar 11:07am
nah:

@coelacanth while I usually prefer non-veg hot dogs, that does sound very good. Sauerkraut is always a winner.
Avatar 11:07am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Actually coelacanth/ that sounds effing lovely. And I'm talkin' veg.dogs here as well. A good vindaloo sauce works wonders on those things.
Avatar 11:07am
Chris M.:

this Thief soundtrack is greeeeaaaat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Ketchup on hot dogs is the way I've always enjoyed them. Also, I occasionally have chili on them. My son has put ketchup on broccoli before. If it gets him eating broccoli, where's the problem in that?
Avatar 11:10am
Chris from DC:

Kimchi on hot dogs also a winner.
Avatar 11:10am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Agreed Chris - totally 1981 (sounds like a much better 'hyperborea' which i think they released that year)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
coelacanth:

Rev- mmm,vindaloo!... i'm trying to convince the cart guys to get raw kim chi as an option.
  11:10am
Claw!:

Bravo on your adventurous fry dipping, Rev! I am a fry purist, however. I believe that truly delicious fries don't need ketchup or anything else, really. Salt (and maybe pepper) are more than enough.
Avatar 11:10am
Cecile:

I only use ketchup in sloppy joes, pasties, and once a year on fries to remind myself why I don't eat ketchup on fries. I too got grief from other kids at this one birthday party every year in grade school for asking for mustard on my burger. For like four years! Crazy.
Avatar 11:11am
Jeff:

Or mayo.
Avatar 11:11am
Chris M.:

Avatar 11:11am

I do like curry ketchup though.
Avatar 11:11am

yeh, Hypnotoad from DC is right -- there was a pub around here that used to serve kimchi dogs (even a veg option methinks) -- wanted to try that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am

oh i didn't see your post,Chris from DC.

  11:13am
KP:

Cecile? Mustard?
Avatar 11:13am
Chris M.:

@Cecile: what songs did they play?
  11:13am
Dean:

Here's what you do with catsup and hot dogs: slice an onion and saute it in 3T of catsup, 1/4C or so of red wine vinegar, 1 1/2C water, some cayenne and paprika, then simmer until the whole mess gets gooey good.
  11:14am
kiemzi:

i think there is another theme
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am

yeah i don't ever eat ketchup (or catsup) these days without either sriracha added or horseradish.

Avatar 11:17am
Jeff:

Oooh! You got me, Mr. Wizard Teeth!
Avatar 11:17am
Cecile:

Uh...it sounded like one long Neurosis jam, and they didn't speak to the audience once. I recognized a Sun That Never Sets, but I never remember the song title, and haven't gotten the new one yet. I do know they played well over 2 hours. I left a song or two before they finished because I had been standing on cement for 5 hours and it was super hot.
Avatar 11:17am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

oh right. I've been mixing ketchup with sriracha for so long I forgot to qualify the above commentary... now the record is straight. Back to headphone dreams.
