I suspect there may be some Styx heard in the next 2.5 hours. And that "Children of the Sun" song by Billy-whoever-it-was... Strangely compelling thus far.

LJFW: in the late 70s/early 80s - a van with a horribly rendered painting of all four members of Van Halen used to a fairly common site in the town I grew up in. Sadly, I don't think anyone took any pictures of it.

I'm on record as crying for a comeback of those vans. Seriously needed in these troubled times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 10/14/14 12:45pm listener james from westwood:

Don't worry. my ale is in a huge drinking-horn. No coaster required!
Rich: You wonder what sort of source artwork was used, and whether the artist was up to the task. Like giving a baker a cake pattern and then getting some abhorrent fondant nightmare in return.

Avatar Tue. 10/14/14 12:53pm still b/p:

Some of that art style migrated from sides of vans to human skin and video/computer games, while the comic book versions seemed to get even mooooooore muscly and va-va-voluptuous.

Good point, still b/p. There's a continuum from pulp magazines to sword/sorcery comics to game box and ad artwork. Lots of detailed "analogue" painting in that era before Wacom tablets and such.

Not just a great Foreigner song, but a rare lead vocal by guitarist Mick Jones. He wa in Spooky Tooth with dreamweaver Gary Wright, and also played on albums by Peter Frampton (1972's Wind of Change) and George Harrison (1974's Dark Horse). Of course Lou Gramm had to add his vocal histrionics to the break.
