@Laure - as a long time NYC ex-pat I can tell you that you may leave the city, but the city doesn't leave you. Often that is a bittersweet thing. A decade later I still call myself a New Yorker and end up talking to others of the same ilk at parties etc.

Sorry to hear only your "hiatal"show, but sending all good thoughts your way for the journey and enjoying hearing your choices for the show, here in the boro

*I've always enjoyed your show. I listened when you were on the schedule a few years ago. Best of luck to you in your new landing spot.
*In regard to NYC and its metro area, I think I'm done with it. I still think NYC is amazing, and it was great to be immersed in it when I was younger, but my "days in the sun" around these thar parts over. I'm now seeking year-round beaches, cheap rum drinks, and early-bird dinner specials.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:33am duke:

Rhys Chatham fits my mood today and I'm not sure what that means.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:33am northguineahills:

I may have to leave as well, as I'm getting plenty of job offers everywhere but here.

@duke - i'm with you. I didn't realize that this Chatham piece is what makes PERFECT sense to my brain right now.

that coltrane track was so lovely, i'm still grooving on it
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:37am Ken From Hyde Park:

Sad to hear you're departing. Keep in touch with the station and see if they can find a podcast situation or a spot on one of the alternate streams. Your shows were quite enjoyable. If you're on the run from killing that guy, best of luck while you're on the lam.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:46am Cecile:

Yeah, Laure, you might want to talk to Doug. Sorry to hear you are heading out. Liked your shows.

You got "New York's Alright if you Like Saxophones?" hahahaha
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:48am Cecile:

Dear Lord, Robin Williams is dead by his own hand. Unbelievable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:49am Brian in UK:

The Coltrane track was originally on Coltrane Jazz, my first jazz album. Think the ending is slightly extended. Really turned my head Laure when it came on. I was eighteen again. That takes some doing.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:49am Sem Chumbo:

Not the exit anyone imagined, I imagine, Cecile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:50am Brian in UK:

You can work the stream from anywhere. Tony Coulter is in the North West.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:52am glenn:

why is everyone so surprised? he suffered from depression. i'm not shocked in the least.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:52am Cecile:

Sem, he struggled mightily with bipolar depression his whole life. We only saw the manic side. I have my own depression issues, but bipolar is tough, tough, tough.

Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:57am glenn:

well, except for right wingers.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 9:57am Cecile:

yes, glenn, but audiences don't necessarily know that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:57am common:

my friend and i were just talking about that...depressed comedians. RIP Robin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Coltrane is Home. For me - the only one to rival Hendrix for top honors in many respects.
- 'We only saw the manic side' - the RW thing is shocking for just that reason I think C'ec - he seemed so life affirming - not like he was washed up w/ no job offers, unadmired or under-appreciated - entirely the contrary - tho' of course glenn is right. In hindsight - seems so very Manic; some may think him too cute or mainstream or something - but was he not Improv genius of the highest order ?? Wow. & his voice meant something - w/ his social commentary & continuous charitable work. Very very sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 9:59am sphere:

Robin Williams' "up" was so memorable, just imagine his "down." :(
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:00am Cecile:

I saw him do standup on various shows in the mid 70s before he ever did Mork and Mindy, and I swear to God, still some of the funniest shit I've ever seen.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:00am Cecile:

exactly, sphere.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:00am Sem Chumbo:

There. What Sphere said puts it into an understandable context for me, though my friends who are chronically depressed say "You have no idea."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 10:01am ausmanx:

i just wish the media would have some perspective on this stuff. a 63-year-old who had a very privileged life choosing to end it all isn't "tragic". it may be a bit sad, but 1000 women and children being slaughtered in Gaza is tragic.
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:02am Cecile:

you don't, but you're still awesome!! :D
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:02am w41:

Hi, how about New York Telephone Conversation by Lou Reed? :)
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:03am Cecile:

The writers who get it do, ausmanx. And we do, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 8/12/14 10:04am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- you're *right* ausmanx .
- but Art & Entertainment matter - they aren't peripheral or 'extra' - *especially* when things are crap (which is always - more or less).
Avatar Tue. 8/12/14 10:08am Cecile:

I think I appreciate Scott Walker for influencing Marc Almond and Billy McKenzie, but am I bad for wanting to listen to them instead of him?
