Hello failure my old friend.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:09pm adrian in mpls:

is there a control group in this experiment?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:09pm Sem Chumbo:

@listener: only if you consider beginning a sentence without a capaital letter a failure of some kind.
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:10pm Fashionably Late:

Playlist Arrival 10 minutes early!
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:12pm P-90:

Pew Pew Pew...
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:14pm nic:

this is great love it
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:15pm P-90:

This IS great, but I'm biased, my cat is an alien too
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:15pm Rich in Washington:

this reminds me of a certain scene in Eraserhead.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:16pm DCE:

well look at all these nice comments already. Nice to be here.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:16pm Ike:

Fantastic so far! Can't stick around in the comments, but I'll be blasting the entire show on my office speakers, since everyone else is playing hooky today.
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:18pm Jack:

I love the soundtrack to Eraserhead.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:18pm Claw!:

Good afternoon to all the Failures here!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Present.
This will do nicely.

Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:33pm chocolate monk:

you know the labels on that fleshtone aura split lp are the wrong way round on most copies!!! your gonna have to play a bit of the flipside later, baby! :-)
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:38pm chocolate monk:

that was the fleshtone aura side for sure.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:39pm chocolate monk:

check the run out groove...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:40pm Sem Chumbo:

Fabio, you are showing great grace in the face of failure.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:40pm chocolate monk:

damn incompetent canadian record pressing plant. the flip side is waaaaay better, mung.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:44pm Cheri Pi:

Insert my comment here.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

What Pi said.
With bonus accenty things that look caffeinated and urgent.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:47pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Out of coffee. Resorting to black tea. For the love of GOD, have Amnesty International drop a bag of Kenyan AA beans on my head already...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:48pm adrian in mpls:

@ Rev. I'm sorry. Tea never cuts it when coffee is needed!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Hell's right Adrian. These sounds are helping immensely, but agents are on the roof, scanning for the Amphetamine Aid helicopters...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:49pm Sem Chumbo:

There are Kenyan AA coffee beans? I must be going to the wrong meetings, the coffee so bad.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:50pm Mike East:

somebody just ground up some beans at my desk and didn't offer me a cup of coffee...the smell lingers...time to take a walk to the corner
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:50pm DCE:

I haven't had a great cup of coffee in forever. It all tastes mediocre or terrible to me now.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:51pm Chris from DC:

I'm about to go get a terrible one myself because I'm desperate.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:51pm DCE:

I think my tongue has forsaken me...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:52pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

The tremolo effect here is causing helicopter hallucinations. There's still hope for a drop-shipment...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The tongue of failure.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:53pm Cecile:

I am drinking lousy coffee right now. Poor Man's Ritalin I calls it.
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:54pm Marmalade Kitty:

The failure to stop eating pistachios once started..
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:54pm nic:

this is great 2_awesome show!!!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:54pm Guido from Cologne:

i have this my PC inside and on my iPad on my Balcony. some 5 seconds delay. and it works!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:55pm adrian in mpls:

@Marmalade Kitty -- Oh god -- it never stops, right? That's truly an infinite activity once it begins...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:56pm DCE:

and the shells that you can't crack oh god the shells you can't crack...
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:56pm Marmalade Kitty:

have a production line plan for shelling and.. feeding.. frenzy
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:56pm Cecile:

kitty, my nut addiction is peanuts in the shell like they sell at the ballpaark. Cursed Twins are selling their peanuts at stores now.
  Thu. 7/17/14 3:57pm P-90:

@adrian & Marmalade: The size of the pistachio supply becomes the only limiting factor
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:57pm Guido from Cologne:

by the way "fünf-und-vierzig" is just "45" written out. I must apologise for stupid German label names. In the 80ies the label was based in Cologne and later moved to the Countryside.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:57pm adrian in mpls:

i made the mistake of bringing a bag into work once, and i think my office mates were confused why the eating went on for sooooo long
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:58pm chocolate monk:

you coffee lovers wanna get yerself a wee hip flask of Buckfast for when the bean is nowhere to be found. will set ye straight.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:58pm Guido from Cologne:

... and "Klangkrieg" is "war of sound" so to say ...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 3:59pm Guido from Cologne:

i love peanuts in the shell but i want someone to peel them for me
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:00pm Sem Chumbo:

Buckfast: like Robitussin over ice, without the class.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:02pm Cecile:

I try to keep unsweetened iced green tea powder around in case. And Italian espresso powder. Surprisingly drinkable.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:04pm chocolate monk:

Sem Chumbo,,, ha! yep. shove it in a martini glass and hand it to fabio and all of a sudden.........
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:04pm adrian in mpls:

@Cecile -- We usually keep the espresso powder around for baking - but it is good in a pinch!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:06pm Cecile:

Yikes: I just looked up Buckfast on Vice
"A Voyage into the World of Buckfast: the Drink That Gets You Fucked Fast"
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:06pm Cecile:

sounds like it's the vino version of IRN-BRU. Grisly stuff
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:07pm Cecile:

In terms of nastiness. IRN-BRU doesn't have caffeine. I don't know what else it has in it, but it doens't have caffeine
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:08pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

"The drink has become a subject of controversy in Scotland due to its links with ned culture and criminality..."
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:09pm chocolate monk:

Irn Bru does have caffeine, or at least it did when i still lived up there.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:09pm Sem Chumbo:

And the fact that it is manufactured by a religious organization. Speaking of getting f**ked.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:11pm Cecile:

oh, does it? I guess i didn't bother to read the label because I was GAGGING ON THE BUBBLE GUM MACERATED NAIL taste.
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:11pm Marmalade Kitty:

I want cash back on the shells, I can put towards my next bag of pistachios
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:12pm Cecile:

hahahaa, kitty.

in the case of all these beverages, I'll take crab juice, please.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:13pm chocolate monk:

aye, thing is, when you go to the Buckfast Abbey in devon, its a weird mixture of right wing middle england pensioners buying the stuff in little bottles, and then you hear total NED voices, bams who have made the pilgrimage down to the place to check out where they make the Bucky. wreck the hoose juice.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:14pm chocolate monk:

yeah cecile, IRN BRU is totally rank rotten. still the drink of choice for most of my pals back in the motherland the morning after the night before. boak!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:16pm Cecile:

Yeah, I heard IRN BRU and a black pudding is a good hangover cure for many.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:17pm chocolate monk:

aye that or a square sausage piece (sandwich)
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:17pm Marmalade Kitty:

prevention is the cure.. I can deal with the hangover but not the cure
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:19pm Cecile:

I avoid the hangovers, but sprite and pretzels work in a pinch.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:36pm Cecile:

it was a baby...an..ni..mal.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:36pm fred:

I have never tried Irn Bru or Buckfast. Both look kinda vile, so I think I'll remain unenlightened
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:39pm Milson:

chorizo eggs with a horseradish heavy bloody mary... anything to prime the pump...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:41pm fred:

Guinness. I'm not sure what the question was, but that's often the answer
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:42pm chocolate monk:

a Dirty Mary (a Bloody mary with a shot of Port).. yow!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:43pm V Priceless:

this sounds like my stomach after bad Indian food.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:44pm Cecile:

okay, sounds too much like burping. Gotta mute for a while
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:46pm adrian in mpls:

it makes me think of that burping record Ken plays sometimes....
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:46pm Sem Chumbo:

Borborygmus: it's not just another weird Australian animal you've never heard of before.
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:47pm Buddy Brown:

Ate his breakfast & laid back down.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:47pm MacGuffin:

This is an abuse of the freeform privilege.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:47pm MacGuffin:

THis is unlistenable. Why why why?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:48pm Milson:

How is this not neat? These folks are making music with their orifices... and only their orifices.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:48pm Cheri Pi:

I've just spoken to the oracles, they predict that I'll be standing atop Mt. Shwagsta by next week!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:48pm Sem Chumbo:

It just can't be put into words.
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:49pm Marmalade Kitty:

pleading for mercy with stomach cramps
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:49pm steve:

i'm all about it but my friend sitting on the couch moments ago opted to put her headphones on and listen to something else.
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:49pm Dean:

Minton is an acquired taste.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:49pm MacGuffin:

The screeching caterwaul of a dying syphilitic whore
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:50pm Milson:

Would context work with the sounds? Seems both necessary and arbitrary...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:50pm fred:

@Cheri Pi: Let those oracles be right, you've been waiting long enough already
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:50pm Sem Chumbo:

So besides bankstas and gangstas, now Swhagsta's a thing. I salute you, Cheri Pi , and your neologism.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:52pm Chris from DC:

This on the other hand is sublime.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:52pm Cheri Pi:

I hope I'm suprised at all the prizes that I have forgotten that I'd won.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:53pm Mike East:

I was hoping for a swag package by tomorrow so I can have some sweet new tees and some driving music for my shore trip next week. Otherwise, maybe when I return to pickup my pile of junk mail and bills from the PO.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:53pm Cecile:

it ia all that and more, Pi.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:54pm Cecile:

mine was waiting for me at work after vacation
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:56pm chocolate monk:

@MacGuffin, Phil has heard it ALL before. and you know what? he don't care, a nicer man you could not meet and his art over many decades stands the test of time. And we should also tip the hat to miss Chen re: that track, it weren't the old duffers fault guv'ner!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:56pm Milson:

...already applied WFMU issued band-aids to a child's knee...
  Thu. 7/17/14 4:57pm Oscar:

so i was digging through the archives and came across something disturbing... Dave Matthews Band made the "heavily played" WMFU records list in 1994.

http://www.wfmu.org/Playlists/Wfmu/rot9503
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:58pm Milson:

...and it has been all downhill since...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 4:59pm MacGuffin:

When I said 'screeching caterwaul of a dying syphilitic whore' I meant it in a NICE way!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:00pm fleep:

[feels the shame, shakes it off]
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:01pm Marmalade Kitty:

maybe it was the recording of station manager Kens microphone experiment
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:02pm Milson:

@MacGuffin - Is there any other? Ha! Oh, yikes, did I just say that!? gulp...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:03pm Milson:

sorry mom, didn't mean any disrespect... because I know you're listening in New Mexcio... how are the dogs? did you get that disability check yet? how's the MS? I love you!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:05pm Milson:

Any good movies? did you do that already?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:11pm chocolate monk:

johnny winter died. Is this someone Fabio and Clay could hold hands over??
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:12pm Marmalade Kitty:

(Only jokin SMK), I can only relate sounds to my own experience
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:12pm fred:

Audrey Chen is amazing. Phil Minton is good, but I confess I've lost interest over the years, he's become far too predictable for me
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:19pm Rich in Washington:

Minton was just in Portland a couple of weeks ago, at The Creative Music Guild.
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:19pm Marmalade Kitty:

One damn fine show, Fabio
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:22pm dale:

i thought fabio was gonna play a rock block of johnny winter
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:23pm chocolate monk:

@dale HA!!! yeah man,,, fab/clay Haden/WInter spin off!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:25pm YETI BOB:

this sounds pretty wild in headphones, there are 2 basses, one in each channel. are they both Charlie Haden?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:26pm chocolate monk:

we got married to this track. the Registrar looked confused then asked if it was playing backwards.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:29pm Cecile:

really, monk? That's awesome.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:30pm YETI BOB:

ah, the second bassist is Scott LaFaro. but who's on the left and who's on the right?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:31pm YETI BOB:

discogs sez: Don Cherry, Scott LaFaro and Billy Higgins are heard on the left channel, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell are heard right.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:32pm YETI BOB:

(and, this is awesome)
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:33pm Dean:

Alan Broadbent paid tribute to Haden in his recent mailing:

Here is my arrangement of Wayfaring Stranger with Charlie Haden:
"I'm going home to see my mother. She said she'd meet me when I come." Rest in peace, dear man. Golden fields lie out before you.

Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:35pm northguineahills:

Anyone see the new Jodorowsky film? I saw it last Friday, and it was tre nice.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Sorry to admit I haven't played Free Jazz in ages. Like 15ish years since I've heard it. It has gotten even better with time.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:36pm northguineahills:

It's been two years for me, when I went through my recs abc (it took 5 years).
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

NGH: saw it here a while back: some nice crossover moments with Santa Sangre, where some scenes were mapped out without as much metaphor... A good time.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:38pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[santa sangre, Fenix with the elephant: "pleeze... don't die...."]
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:38pm chocolate monk:

@Cecile.. yep.. 1999.... crunked up day. i think some Bucky was involved, no shit.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:39pm chocolate monk:

man, gotta see that new Jodorowsky... Just saw the Dune doc.. what a fucking joyous genius!! i wanna lick his face.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:42pm Cecile:

hahahaha, monk. That still rocks.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:43pm northguineahills:

@Rev: I was actually pointing that out. I got a collection of his pre-film comics in Mexico, and most of the imagery and themes would come to play in his films. My gf got one of his recent books, but I read super slow en espanol.
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:43pm P-90:

Jodorowsky has a new book out too, a memoir. My favorite lit professor at Columbia did the translation. Haven't had a chance to read it yet, but perused some pages, it looks like a must-read for AJ freaks.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:44pm Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:45pm northguineahills:

@P-90: I should look for the English translation, b/c otherwise this will take a month for me to read.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:45pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

[raises hand at "AJ freaks."]
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:46pm P-90:

For instance, if someone were so into Jodorowsy that he wanted to lick Alejandro's face, I'd say the book is going to be a real treat, it covers his life but focuses on the making of each of his films, in detail.
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:47pm Marmalade Kitty:

Yeti Bob; I love to listen to L&R speaker independently sometimes, but some times I can still hear vague echoey trace of L&R.. is that my sound set up or is it to be expected?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:47pm Mike East:

I've only ever seen Holy Mountain...which blew my lid off. where do I go next? El Topo?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:48pm Cecile:

Gotta go, but it's been a great show and fun "talking" to everyone.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:49pm dale:

elaine stritch died today as well. is she the third? or fourth? or fifth?
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:49pm Sem Chumbo:

Would love to look at the "book" of AJ's Dune: every shot, 3,000 in all, hand-drawn renderings...lid-flipping doesn't come close.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:49pm Stanley:

@Mike - Santa Sangre is bizarre and amazing. I loved it.
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:50pm P-90:

@ Marmalade: Most stereo mixes will have at least a little "bleed" of the left channel sound in the right and vice-versa, it sounds better...
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:50pm Sem Chumbo:

Bye, Cecile. Later.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:50pm chocolate monk:

Jodorowsky is an absolute inspiration!!! he should be pumped into all households,, just him rambling on. life affirming!!! compared to all the shit we absorb everyday? no contest. the guy is fucking priceless just as a human, outside of his movies... and those fuckers are monsters.... of love.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:51pm Cecile:

not elaine stritch. damn
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Mike: Gotta do El Topo before you die. Mandatory.
My absolute favorite film of all time by anyone is Santa Sangre. My old beat-up VHS copy has been ritually watched on my birthday every year for centuries. When they finally released a DVD in the states, I flipped the hell out..
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:53pm northguineahills:

I'd say go w/ El Topo then Sante Sangre, then Dance of Reality will make sense (the new one).
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:53pm Marmalade Kitty:

oh, thanks P-90, I thought so
  Thu. 7/17/14 5:54pm P-90:

@Sem: I actually saw that storyboard by Moebius in LA in the 70s, I knew people who were hired to work on the film and went off to Paris, then came back emotionally wrecked when the plug suddenly got pulled. The visualizations of the characters were excellent, great costumes, everything. It's mostly black and white, pen and ink. It's the whole movie, shot-by-shot.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:55pm northguineahills:

He finally (after 20+ years) got funding to film the sequel to El Topo, Abel Cain.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:55pm Mike East:

groovy - got 'em queued up. Thanks dudes.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Fabio! Groovy-ass set!
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:55pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Until next week, keep failing.

yeh, i remember seeing mockups of the poster for "the sons of el topo" -- had wondered whatever became of that.
Avatar Thu. 7/17/14 5:56pm YETI BOB:

I know "El Topo" is a touchstone for all cool and right-thinking people, but I found it nearly impossible to get through it.

Don Cherry is Neneh Cherry's step-father.

@Rev - you remember the scene where the boy gets the tattoo from his father? the camera focusing on the boy's tears rolling down his face. Jodorowsky cast his own son in the role and in that scene was crouching under the chair, out of camera range, pushing pins into his own boy's legs. Now that is what I call a director!

hi-five, chocolate monk!

Screaming Lord Sutch and his Heavy Friends.
Wow.

@ Rev Turnip: That's cool that Santa Sangre is your favorite movie, it's great. It also had an element to the story that anticipated the kind of thing that M. Knight Shmalyalyan did years later. Also "Fight Club", but he did it first, and better IMO.

thanks for playing the Haden, Fabio.

Rock n Roll Hoochie Koo was first recorded by Johnny Winter And. Rick Derringer was in the band and wrote the song (and recorded his own version a couple years later).
Johnny Winter's version of Dylan's Highway 61 was also a hit, I think.
Also Still Alive & Well.
