that first This Heat LP is timeless! third eye opener, pre post punk, pre lots of stuff!
Avatar 4:51pm
YETI BOB:

This Heat were the bridge between prog and punk. Note that C. Hayward worked with Phil Manzanera in "Quiet Sun". (And he's made a lot of interesting records since the This Heat days)

Awesome!
Agree with nearly everything said about This Heat.
Though i think Deceit is the better album as a whole, not to put the groundbreaking first one down .... and that Health & Effiency EP!!!
Avatar 🎸 5:00pm
chocolate monk:

not comparing the two in sound, but I always make a connection with This Heat and Chrome,,, two bands in the midst of some other, bigger more popular musical event, but they just seemed to take there own path.. those 2nd and 3rd Chrome LPs still sound so far out and out of time!
Avatar 5:03pm
johnforz:

Camberwell Now's LP The Ghost Trade is amazing as well. That was Hayward's band post this heat, and it sounds like a synthed up continuation of this heat. They definitely had a prog background (Hayward played in Gong as well as Quiet Sun), but always seemed to have a more punk, or anti-prog perspective to their music that made them so much better than the Canterbury bands... IMHO
Avatar 5:04pm
johnforz:

I agree with Guido about Deceit! The first LP is great, no doubt. But Deceit is like a flawless expression from start to finish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
Guido from Cologne:

@chocolate
All i can say i listened to both, both were among my faves and i painstrikely missed as ope minded music during the rest of ghe 80ies. I did not understand how innovative and original they actually were, they were just among my faves. They stood all tests of time.

peaking of Throbbing Gristle, there's a nice little bio. of Genesis P. Orridge in Wikipedia. What a neat guy.

Guido from Cologne:

A russian friend of mine was overly annoyed about the entrance fees to the Kraftwerk shows. I told him to forget about it and keep them in memory the way he used to love them.
Avatar 5:16pm
Claw!:

Yeah, Kraftwerk was definitely pricey. Luckily, I got the tickets comped through my job. They're a weird band to see live, though. They just stand there the whole time. It's kind of funny when you think about it and compare it to other shows. But damn, if it didn't get hella danceable!
Avatar 5:24pm
steve:

a buddy insisted she heard Kraftwerk make mistakes at a recent live gig, inferring they must actually be doing... something... live.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
Guido from Cologne:

Good info steve!
The Kraftwerk gigs were as"liveless" in the mid 70ies. I remember some older guys recommending never to go to their shows when iwas about to become a fan.
