A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

yeah this is great. i like the stephin merritt esque synths.
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:07am duke:

Faceless Technocrats is a good band name
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 10:07am ausmanx:

well, they were M/A/R/R/S so i guess they got their reward with the legacy which is "Pump Up The Volume", but that single broke up the band
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 10:09am ausmanx:

and of course they did "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme" too, which is superb and topical
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:10am nah:

Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:13am Ivo:

What makes Colorbox so underrated? I had all their records once-upon-a-time (I too was a 4AD head), but I gave them away!
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:17am βrian:

Wow. Kelly Green. I've not seen her in a while.
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:18am Trouble:

i think in the big picture they are not well remembered, but i also didn't ever hear about them as anyone's fave, in their original moment..
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:19am Yair Yona:

Oh I love Matching Mole.
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:23am DeemerDave:

Welcome, my son.
Welcome, to the machine.
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:27am Ivo:

...they're barely remembered at all. I mean, they were ok, but they never really gelled as a group, and they produced very little material. In fact, they ended up relying on covers much of the time....for underrated 4AD bands I might suggest Dif Juz...just sayin'
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:27am βrian:

M. Burch me plaît.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 10:31am ausmanx:

well they're remembered enough that when 4AD released the box retrospective 2 years ago they sold out in five minutes. no one was as technologically adept or across so many genres as they were back then. they didn't "rely" on covers, they chose to reinterpret stuff brilliantly and judiciously, i'd say

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 10:37am Andrew Waterloo:

Colourbox is a bit before their time and also a bit plagued by the fact that their biggest is Pump Up The Volume
  Tue. 6/24/14 10:37am Dave M:

This is a great piece. Pink Floyd sample in there?
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 10:47am Ivo:

It's a mistake to attribute Pump Up The Volume solely to Colorbox - it was a collaboration involving numerous people, though the exact origin story remains contested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 10:48am Brian in UK:

Appropriate colour (British Racing Green) to compliment the picture.

@Dave B: Kinda hard to get your swag to "35,000 feet above Texas"
  Tue. 6/24/14 11:10am Robert:

Not only that, but I at least strongly suspect a number of staffers at WFMU have cx at other stns. that they could introduce aspirants to. In fact I bet they love doing that, the same way many WFMU DJs, librarians, etc. love promoting new musical acts.
Avatar Tue. 6/24/14 11:10am Van in DC:

I listen still to one kind of commercial station, but only because I also love classical music and DC has a wonderful station for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 11:12am chris:

@Dave B, they'll ship your swag to the port-side wing of the plane you're currently on, via suerpsonic drone entirely powered by Kraut Rock and depicting a rather shocking rendering of a shirtless Ken forging a sword...
  Tue. 6/24/14 11:13am Dave B:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 6/24/14 11:16am chris:
