It really depends on the venue too..... I used to see them in a small club in Boston. Then the next time I saw them it was outdoors and it just wasn't as good. This last time was not a great space for them, but the tickets were free, so I can't complain. Mary Wing saw them the day before me in a smaller club, so I wonder if it was better there.....

OMG- Dave you had me at this-

Delicious food & football
One of the biggest draws of the event is its collection of street food vendors, many of which only participate in this annual event! From juicy ribs dripping in exotic Surinamese sauce, to spicy Korean tacos that make your tongue tingle, or stalls that stop off in the Middle East and Africa, you'll find tasty treats from all over the globe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am

Yep! That's why I said adventure originally! trips are much shorter in length..... hehe

It's a beautiful old city, be sure to visit the Rijksmuseum where all the Rembrandts are. (The Italian resturant across the street is not bad for lunch.) The boat tours of the city through the canals are definitely worth doing. BUT: don't expect an exciting music scene there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44am
Guido from Cologne:

Amsterdam?
Visit the Rembrandts and the "Coffee Shops" ;-)
... and the northern Venetian atmosphere has something.
... and 2nd hand record shops are way better then in Germany!

getting the "munchies" in A'dam is not a problem. Is Jefff going too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am

No Jeff..... he got to go to China without me..... this is my trip that I've been invited on!

There are a few clubs that showcase the mixed bag of local bands that tour through Europe and hit all the bigger cities. Lot's of Metal cover bands, 80's cover bands, some more adventurous stuff here and there, depends on who's playing when you're there, luck of the draw.

Nothing like the more ambitious, idiosyncratic bands that you'd see at clubs in Brookyln or somewhere like that. Check the venues, there might be something enticing. Expect a lot of beer-sticky, mosh-pit-sweaty clubs that cater more to the local working folks and students who want to get wasted and blow off steam. And kids from around Europe, it's like a "Spring Breakish" kind of getaway town for students in nearby countries. And check out the Red light district, some good bars there.

i remember there was a major launch of Tintin merch in N. America in the 90's, animated videos, mugs, figurines, posters. I'm sure I saw a nice plush Snowy in a trendy toy store on Madison Ave. But the stuff didn't catch on, and it"s not around anymore.
I remember when Spielberg made his 3D Tintin movie a few years ago that they said the tied-in merchandise would be much more limited than for the typical cartoon blockbuster, because American kids just don't want that much of it.
