Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Haven't heard the Free Design version in ages. I have many non-Chidren's Television Network versions of Sesame Street for some reason.

Hm. This does not top the original. But good to hear.

Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:21pm Pedro G.:

Well, you're timing is good Uncle Mike. Tomorrow is the 60th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision, which grew from Topeka's Monroe Elementary School refusing to allow Linda Brown to attend.

Praise Allah that it wasn't THIS U.S. Supreme Court that heard the case.

www.nps.gov...
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:23pm Uncle Michael:

I drive past the school Linda *was* allowed to attend, every day on my way to work.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

This Billie track is glorious.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

Bit of trivia: It's only "Brown" because that family's surname came first alphabetically among the list of plaintiffs.
Avatar Fri. 5/16/14 12:24pm βrian:

@Pedro. No kidding. Separate But Equal would be characterized a free speech issue.
Avatar Fri. 5/16/14 12:26pm βrian:

The Zarnowski family didn't stand a chance.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:26pm ndbob:

I kind of doubt that - even with this Court - maybe a 7-2 decision , but I'd still bet on 9-0

Wasn't Wheel of Fortune by Kay Star a 78?
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:29pm listener james from westwood:

Re: Great War nostalgia: The shadow of WWI that hangs over some characters in "Boardwalk Empire" has been the most interesting thing to me in what I've seen of that series so far. That and the clothes. The rest I rate as a good, not great.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:32pm ndbob:

@UM What's really interesting is to trace the history of ending school segregation - how it started slowly - with the desegregation of graduate programs and worked its way up to public primary and secondary education.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

It's kind of funny that Linda Brown alone got famous. She wasn't the plaintiff, her parents were. She used to charge money to be photographs for stories about Brown v. BOE.
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 12:39pm Uncle Michael:

Also Thurgood Marshall gets too much credit. Two brothers, African-American attorneys from Topeka, the Scotts, *got* the case to the SCOTUS. I knew one of the Mrs. Scotts late in her life and she was a dear.

Indeed James... I went to the Ervin committee hearings one day.. saw Robert Mardian testify
  Fri. 5/16/14 2:05pm Len:

That 18 and a half minute gap-could they have been discussing QPR's controversial astro turf surface that year or have I mixed up my mind again?
Avatar    Fri. 5/16/14 2:05pm listener james from westwood:
