Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:08am bibi:

it's not even boring, robots are not even boring. what's left for us if they are not even boring ?
are we sure liz is not one of them ? remember she can produce laser sounds all by herself.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:09am bibi:

we are the ones enjoying listening to robots. thats already quite a lot...
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:09am northguineahills:

What if it's a mining robot, then it can be a boring robot?
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:16am common:

what about a mining, moonshine drinkin', backporch robot? Those are my favorite.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:16am northguineahills:

A man calls the studio, I pick up the phone and say "Hello, WFMU." He asks, "Is this Nachum Segal?" Is there some type of remedial course for this sort of thing?
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:33am bibi:

keep it that eclectic liz, many robots & humans love it.

@kosta : i love the third octet of yr comment.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:37am dc pat:

I can't get over the fact that EVERY single time some one calls our normal phone at home and gets the answering machine, they start talking to the out-going message, like "Hello? Hello? Yes this is....Hello?" Are people becoming dumber or more deaf?
  Mon. 5/12/14 9:40am kosta:

Bibi, consider also 110000000010101111111100.

Dc, both!
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:40am common:

distracted? deaf? Hello? Who is this? Who am I?
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:41am Liz Berg:

Hilarious, DC Pat! I'm convinced that people don't read anything past the first 140 characters anymore, so they must not listen past the first few words, either. In fact, I'm going to reveal a secret here that only the folks who are paying attention will even see: I always carry dental floss with me.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:42am mariano:

'Morning Nachum, all!
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:42am dc pat:

What?
  Mon. 5/12/14 9:43am Kevlicki:

Good morning Liz
Nice to have met you in the farmers market the other day!
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:44am bibi:

zombie zombie are so didactic.
this dental floss revelation is, hm, disturbing. i cant wait for yr next vocal intermission so that we learn more about it.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:45am Liz Berg:

Hi Kevlicki! Nice meeting you, too! Hope the rain didn't wash away all of the shoppers.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:48am dc pat:

Sooooo, tell us more about the dental floss.... but keep it short.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:49am DCE:

I'll you about the pygmy pony instead
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:52am Liz Berg:

Ha ha, there's no real story behind the dental floss. I always carry earplugs as well, both items are merely practical. Am I the only overly-prepared weirdo here? What do you guys always carry with you?
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:55am dc pat:

Wallet, keys, guitar picks...
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:56am bibi:

that's your robot side, liz ;)
i carry a little squared scarlett johansson in my pocket. very practical.
concerning earplugs, one needs the pro ones with the tailor made plastic box. the regular single use ones, i just destroy the package and stick my fingers on them long before needing them...
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:56am common:

keys, sometimes a wooden monkey holding onto a peach.
  Mon. 5/12/14 9:56am kosta:

Apatt from the reg keys, phone etc...My glasses, a waterproof jacket, and a plastic bag.
  Mon. 5/12/14 9:58am kosta:

And THOUGHTS. Lots of em.
  Mon. 5/12/14 9:58am Kevlicki:

I carry way too much with me! I've got metal chopsticks, my phone charger, and my mini rechargeable speakers-so I can play WFMU for everyone, wherever I go.
The hyper productive NYer in me always needs an arts and craft project
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:59am mariano:

I always carry (in my knapsack) Purel, because it's NYC and you never know what you'll accidentally touch (I'm not a compulsive hand washer, honest), a small packet of Kleenex, because nothing is worse than needing them and not having them, especially in Winter on the subway. Then of course my trusty dugout and one-hitter, another essential item of urban survival. Other than that, phone, music, ear buds, the usual.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 9:59am bibi:

who got the worst key ring accessory ? i confess a 15 yo lego darth vador. only chest & head remain since a while; was somehow premonitory.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 9:59am dc pat:

DEATH TO ROBOTS, LET'S ROCK!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
  Mon. 5/12/14 10:00am Kevlicki:

It's appropriate to always carry a good attitude with you. Especially considering you're most likely to encounter a bad one at some point in your day
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:01am dc pat:

LiveFastDie is my new fav band.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:04am dc pat:

I always carry my stupid phone too and that bugs me. I have to have it for family communication but these dumb things irritate me to no end. I'd be fine with them if everyone wasn't so freaking obsessed with them. they're actually quite remarkable.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:06am mariano:

@Kevlicki: I agree. I've been practicing my attitude because I can be a real grump dealing with NYC crowds. My day always goes better when I make an effort to be pleasant to people.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:07am bibi:

liz, sorry i didnt catch what you said about kid million, did you play some side project from him ?
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:07am Planet Tyler:

I always carry my (point-n-shoot) camera, a writing tool, my bizness card cos I can't remember my work teley, I often forget my wallet, and should think of my phone more often.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:07am Gary:

I carry big almost-noise-cancelling headphones on the train in to work, mostly so I don't have to listen to annoying convos.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:09am Planet Tyler:

O and I put a hankercheif in every pair of pants so I don't forget one of those. Poopey bags for the dog too.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:11am Liz Berg:

You guys are more prepared than I am! Who knew the WFMU listeners were such good boy/girl scouts!? Kevlicki has a great point about the good attitude, too... essential for survival, esp here in the oh-so-friendly tri-state area.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:12am Sem Chumbo:

Baking bread and listening, baking bread and listening, baking and listening. This is a good show to bake by, Liz. Good morning, and hello Lizards hither and yon.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:12am Gary:

+ chamois for glasses, tiny notebook + pen, both Queens and Manhattan library cards
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:12am Liz Berg:

Bibi, I just mentioned that Kid Millions was in Oneida, a band that I have professed my love for many times.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:14am Cheri Pi:

this is so freaking good. Heya Liz!
  Mon. 5/12/14 10:16am Yair yona:

I love percussion music so much. This is incredible
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:18am DCE:

yeah, Kid Millions has it goin' on there...sorry I missed him when he came through recently
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:18am common:

been thinking about doing a solo project with drums and voice. good stuff!
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:18am Guido from Cologne:

@Liz
Will anybody pull Quilt (often played on FMU) to the FMU-studios for some live session? They will be ending thei US tour in NY this week.
www.quiltmusic.org...

they shared stage with Bogarins on Austin psych.
Funnily they didn#t know WFMU, but occasionally they perform for free.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:19am dc pat:

Hey LizB, got any Chain and the Gang? there was a piece in the WashPost about Svenonius. Love that guy...
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:20am northguineahills:

Hmmm, i floss maybe once every three months, and still have yet to have a cavity (knock on wood). My phone is always in my pocket, but I usually have a few books in my bag, along w/ an umbrella. Let's see, also sunglasses, mints, and during the non summer months, an extra layer.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:21am bibi:

is the original by eno (st elmo) ?
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:23am dc pat:

I don't have a standard bag as I'm always on my bike and try not to carry anything. So really everything is on my phone.....I just thought of a song idea which I recorded on it.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:23am mariano:

@NGH: The one thing I love about Winter is having all the extra pockets! I have this enormous parka with zippers and pockets everywhere, and sometimes I'll find money from the previous Winter in there.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:23am dc pat:

@ngh: same here, I've had maybe 2 cavities in my life.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:25am Kevlicki:

dc pat,
I put a handlebar bag on my bike just for that purpose!
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:26am northguineahills:

@ mariano: Was dry cleaning my winter coats this weekend and found about $15 in my pockets.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:27am mariano:

Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:29am mariano:

Ahh, Real Estate, very nice! Therese was playing some last night too, if I recall correctly (never a safe bet).
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:30am Liz Berg:

Today's show will feature not one, but two songs about tightropes. Maybe it's because I've been thinking about dental floss.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:30am dc pat:

wait, Real Estate is nice but I meant the Baby Drill song. That was killer.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:31am DCE:

don't walk that dental floss tightrope, hon
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:32am Ike:

Liz, your "is this Nachum Segal?" comment made me laugh, and on a Mon. morning, too. Cheers.

I have a long commute, so I always carry way too much w/me, but nothing v. exciting. Prob. about 75% of the items already mentioned above. Floss was a recent addition (eating lots of coconut lately, I guess).
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:35am dc pat:

Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:41am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Vacation a while back, went to Sitka, AK -- Bald eagles so plentiful they were like pigeons. It was rather hilarious.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:41am mariano:

@dc pat: Did you catch that article on the 13-year-old Mongolian girl who hunts with a golden eagle in -40 degree weather? Had no idea eagles could get so big.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:43am dc pat:

dangit mariano, saw it but forgot to go back and read it.
@Rev: they're actually getting pretty numerous around here. I saw a ton of them last year. Endangered Species Act to thank for that.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:44am mariano:

this song is brilliant.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:47am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Aye, DCP. The Potomac brings all manner of odd creatures up here. Rock Creek as well.

My street got buzzed by an owl recently -- sailing thru the long tunnel of row-house porches. My guess is he was after bugs attracted by porch-lights. Groovy little beast.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:47am common:

this set is great liz! thanks!
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:47am Kevlicki:

@dc pat I think it also has to do with the reduction of DDT and other toxic chemicals that had poisoned their food supply. I remember reading research on such things years ago.
Stupid no one decided to research how it would affect the HUMAN food supply, til after using it
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 10:48am dc pat:

nice song stupid group name "Native American" I saw "Soccer Team" the other day and couldn't enjoy their tunes because of their idiotic name.

Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:57am bibi:

the idea of a band composing a song about killing a critics that bashed their work is lovely to me.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:58am bibi:

@dcp, or a wfmu one, obviously !
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 10:58am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:36am Liz Berg:

Love that cat shot, Bibi!
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:36am steve:

hmm good question Kevlicki. i remember it was on a bunch of those "best google street view moments" lists a few years ago with no mention of that event. common's comment leads me to believe this may be unrelated and that these guys have bi weekly viking sword battles in the park/vacant lot. or that's what i hope.
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:39am Whosondephone:

IT'S A COMMODORE!
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 11:40am Kevlicki:

I weas astonished the first time I saw the Sunday LARPers in Mont Royal park in Montreal. Around 50 people "play" battling in the park EVERY week. It was amusing, there were folks in more historical costumes fighting folks with alien monster masks on. All playing by the same rules.
Check it out if you get the chance!
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 11:42am bibi:

@kevlicki, i thought collaborating with google was evil ;)
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:43am Carmichael:

A little too strange for my tastes.

Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:44am dc pat:

Summer is on the way when Liz plays the ice cream truck song.

I always carry a bottle of water, a magazine to read, a granola bar in case of low blood sugar, and a bandana. Also, a pen, and gum which replaced cigarettes.

Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:50am Sem Chumbo:

Thanks for the spins this morning, Liz. I'm thinking that, like cows, ovens produce good things in the presence of good sounds. Made some rye soda bread. With blue cheese, it's lunch. Later!
Avatar    Mon. 5/12/14 11:50am Liz Berg:

Good mood (which I pronounced "meeouud" for reasons I cannot explain).

Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 11:53am Stevel:

I discovered Creem Magazine at the 7-11. Nothing was quite the same after that. Also got a cat, one night. I spent a LOT of time there, and a LOT of quarters on pinball.
Avatar Mon. 5/12/14 11:54am Stevel:

BTW: This is a hell of a set. You're making it hard to sit still.
