Sat. 4/5/14 3:17am
Whooda:
As a child we would run behind the jeep that sprayed roiling clouds of DDT poison as mosquito control. The driver, wearing hazmat gear and gas mask would wave us away, but we ignored him until he stopped the jeep and got out to chase us away. I was later informed it was poison gas. The next day it came around I was frantic with panic to get in the house before I died from the spray. For other reason's, my Mother wouldn't let me in as I raced from door to door and window to window begging to get inside. True story. |
![]() |
![]() Managed to avoid malaria, denge and Delhi belly then caught an atrocious cold as soon as I landed. 'Skegness 'flu' |
![]() |
![]() A bunch of people from my hometown have been bragging about riding in that DDT fog recently on fb. Yikes. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:20am

Got some funny news. They spotted an alien in Mercogliano, Italy but I have been in Vicenza all this time...they got the wrong city. :) www.ufosightingsdaily.com... |

Sat. 4/5/14 3:23am
mariano:
Hi Elisa! |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:24am
Whooda:
Good morning Elisa, what's for breakfast this Saturday morning? |
![]() |
![]() @mariano - not a place for a holiday but fascinating none the less. March - September is too hot, though. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:27am
Whooda:
Hmmm, what *do* aliens eat Elisa? Inquiring minds want to know. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:27am
Elisa In Italy:
Breakfast was weird...I had peanut butter, espresso, strawberries...you know alien food. :) How about you Whooda. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:30am
Whooda:
Having a banana and coffee before bed. You aliens sure eat well. Those aliens in Mercogliano are probably trying to learn your secret tiramisu recipe :) |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:31am
Elisa In Italy:
You know my British/German friend in Germany makes better Tiramisu than any Italian I know. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:31am
Brian in UK:
Ectoplasm in any form for the most important meal of the day. |

![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:33am
mariano:
@Elisa: wasn't there some minor scandal in Italy when it was found that the most popular pizza was a German frozen brand? |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:37am
Elisa In Italy:
I don't know about the German frozen brand...interesting...but I know a Chinese kid won a prize for pizza throwing in Italy and an Italian did well in martial arts in China. So demonyms are losing cultural stereotypical meaning as usual. Cultures are intertwining and new ones are developing everyday. Tutto il mondo e' un paese. |
![]() |
![]() @Brian - I prefer a nice piece of smoked haddock |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:40am
mariano:
Yeah, I also hear that Japan has amazing Italian food. Here in New York all kinds of interesting things are happening, like Korean tacos, all sorts of interesting cultural mash-ups. |

Elisa In Italy:
@ Mariano you got WFMU in the US. Thanks! Time to learn some Catalan! I am going to try and find a way to get a ticket for Primavera Music Festival...I don't know how I'm going to afford it. I am broke!! :( Have any of you been to the Primavera Music Festival besides WFMU DJs? |

![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:54am
Brian in UK:
@Elisa never, to Primavera though the lineup looks good most years. I cannot find the commitment for the length of a festival, must be getting old(er) |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 3:54am
mariano:
Take care, Elisa! |
![]() |
![]() @Elisa - contact Bas in Holland, he won a trip to Primavera a couple of years ago. A good friend of the station. www.wfmu.org... |

mariano:
Never heard this version of Lucifer Sam, it's really cool! |
![]() |
![]() The Three O'Clock: something from a new bin of the past...if that makes any sense. |
![]() |
![]() Gotta split, guys. Thanks for the good Saturday sounds, PGB. Bye all. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 4:50am
mariano:
You know, I have traumatic memories of Huey Lewis from the 80s, but it blew my mind when I learned that Elvis Costello's backup band on Allison was made up largely of members from the News. Take care, Stanley! |
![]() |
![]() I once traumatized a busload of people by including a series of hooks from HL&tN on a mix tape played over the sound system. One hook after another was too much to take. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 4:55am
mariano:
Did people seriously call in to complain? |
![]() |
![]() I was on the bus. The passengers didn't complain, but it was too much for the bus driver and he ejected the tape! |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 5:00am
mariano:
Oh no, sorry, I thought you said during the break that someone had called the station and complained about the HL! |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 5:03am
Whooda:
@PGB Bus driver's are the world's worst art critics. Am I right? |
![]() |
![]() Ah, did I confuse things? The great listener called in to obsess over the scary baby-o that we heard. Kinda makes me jump outta my skin, too. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 5:07am
mariano:
Oh, I get it, @PGB. Thanks! |
![]() |
![]() @Whooda The bus driver put up with a bunch of the esoteric stuff on my tape, but the HL&tN hook medley was probably affecting his ability to drive. |
![]() |
Sat. 4/5/14 5:09am
Whooda:
@PGB Haha, that's funny. You FMU DJs are demons when it comes to keeping me up and away from competing interests. Good night, good morning, good weekend, good bye. |
![]() |
![]() Connect next time, Whooda! |
