Avatar 6:58am

Avatar 7:27am
Sem Chumbo:

Why we listen to some music over and over: aeon.co...
Avatar 7:28am
bibi:

so you dont know what those tracks are ? there is no omniscient shazam thing in wfmu laboratories to find out ? or maybe a guido app would be sufficient.
Avatar 7:29am
ausmanx:

"Put the most music-apathetic individual in a household where someone is rehearsing for a contemporary music recital and they will leave whistling Ligeti." haha.

lets activate the guido app and set it up on these 2 unknown tracks.
Avatar 7:35am
bibi:

this BARR thing is nice, somewhere between the fall, art brut and a band i dont know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am
Guido (Cologne):

Guido-app cannot help.
There is a DJ-premium all with anonymus artists and I will take exactly that one.

Yep, the BARR track has it.
Avatar 7:40am
Marty McSorley:

i did a cassette a few years ago that was a comp of all unlabeled found cassette! Idk if they have anymore here or not.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45am
Guido (Cologne):

Dave the Spazz's premium, quote:
"Twenty-five incredible songs, all by unidentified recording artists. Their names are lost to history but their recordings live on! "

Seems wothwhile!
Avatar 7:46am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx Sem for 7:27 link ; I'm always telling everybody here to read 'This Is Your Brain on Music' by D. Levitin - maybe more than once...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am
Guido (Cologne):

EMF ... *LOL*
Avatar 7:51am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Troggs track I love but never hear is 'Girl In Black', Goth fans; love Troggs too (we are not alone)
- but beware of course also collections saying 'original artists'...but *not* original versions...only the finest bodegas...
Avatar 7:52am
Sem Chumbo:

@RevRab: thot you'd enjoy.
Avatar 7:56am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...one of the takeaways from the Levitin is that the appeal of Music is about the balance of familiarity & novelty - obvious maybe but a good point...
Avatar 8:06am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...reading that article Sem; begins to beg the question - why do we have this 'Music' thing & where does it come from? Of all places, 'Drumming @ the Edge of Magic' by Mickey Hart relates some of the ideas & research about that: some think Music started as a way of coordinating people in work, hunting or even war...seems to me that some musical responses & behaviors are inherent in even some animals...
Avatar 8:07am
bibi:

these bass octave semitonal progressions always work on me !
Avatar 8:10am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & who else would play KRMTX - &tc. for us ??
Avatar 8:11am
Sem Chumbo:

@RevRab: I would hazard to say the rhythms of our bodies, breathing and the heartbeat, are foundational to our development of all things musical.
Avatar 8:14am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...many Philostophers & Mystics would say that the Universe is inherently Musical - that All is Music...but I don't want to rile Cartman w/ a bunch of hippiesh*t...

Guido (Cologne):

Evolution/Biology & music roughly:
- humans by nature love signals (melody)
- anatomy saves energy by springiness (walking) and thus repeated motions in equal time-intervalls are pleasing (rhythm, beats, time signature)
- humans by nature love syncronised motion (collective woerk / dance)
- humans by nature love algorithms (program/story in wider sense)
