totally fine with it, and thanks!, though had no idea either a hardcover or a free epub existed! (but not supposed to talk about work-type matters through WFMU channels.)

ooof, so embarrassed re hardcover mention, was thinking of Will Hermes - but was not lying re SOFTcover of BDC. Both above-referenced books live in shelf directly above my head, once I get home.

Yeah, free epub exists.

No more talk. Zip!

yay! glad you appreciated it! was worried it was too corny for WFMU. but, hell, we probably wouldn't be here without pete.

I'm only learning of Petes body of work since his passing..respect.

Pete Big heart! :)

P-90:

@jj: Lotsa FMU Dj's did Pete tributes this week, no one thought it was too corny. You're right about none of this being here - not in quite the same form anyway - without him.
Interested to hear how important he was to you when you were a lad.
Excelsior!

it was first time to me listening Pete Seeger. but it didn't sound corny at all. i did very quick study about him and i could imagine how he influenced people. i also respect him.

When poorly educated, scared, sick, hopeless flag-waving nitwits are all about "Amurica" - I weep, as in my world, Pete S.speaks for that America, and I cannot parse how things have gone so wrong.

@Droll: roger that. " Live at Roulette" is way cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

"live at roulette" *is* way cool, but there it was never quite playing by itself, always with stuff mixed on top of it. recommended: noveller.bandcamp.com...

oh man i haven't listened to grayfolded in forever
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Santos L Halper:

Seems like the kind of thing that would benefit from the CDs extended time, but maybe it divides up nicely...

Avatar 11:23pm

I also think it's odd to be anachronistic about LP -- it had a maximum running time, but you always got a second side with the same running time for free...
  11:25pm
nate:

haven't heard this in forever, not really something I would want to have to keep flipping over though...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
jj.:

for the record, we're back into ranaldo & noveller here...
  11:29pm
P-90:

@Drool: Ha! that's one way of looking at it. It gave musicians a standard "frame" or format of 22 mins, a distinct "break" or intermission, and another 22. So they thought in terms of how to fit that format. Sometimes a "limitation" like that is actually liberating. In the Cage/Eno sense of having an arbitrary rule imposed that you have to work with giving you focus. I miss the age of vinyl LPs for a few reasons
  11:30pm
P-90:

jj: thnx for update

As soon as those little guitar squiggles turn up in the J. Oswald, it reminds me of a Dead "Space" set
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Santos L Halper:

That's the best way to grin holly : )

P-90: there's a reason for that...
and agreed about rules being useful, along w/the occasional oblique strategy

Yeah, I caught that, right after I posted, the "resemblance" became more explicit

There is an unhung, framed Lee Ranaldo poem staring me in the face here in the dining room. it is apparently incumbent on me to hang it.
Avatar 11:41pm
Droll:

P90, The 23 minute limit is both cause and effect. Eno's Oblique Strategies is a way more interesting framework!
  11:47pm
P-90:

@Droooll: Just thinking the "one or more disks of 22/22" format meant that whatever anyone was doing, they were at least all confined to that same single constraint. A universal shape for everyone's version of the ritual, an enforced community, in that one respect. "We all liked THAT album, looking forward to hearing YOUR album, meanwhile here's MY album"
Avatar 11:54pm
Droll:

P-90, With streaming we've hit infinite length, which is the degenerate case of using up other people's time. On YT you've only got about 15 seconds to make an impression. Having said that, one of the best-selling albums of all time (Dark Side of the Moon) spends the first 25 seconds as a near silent thump-thump -- nothing happens.

  11:58pm
P-90:

Sure, that was a statement itself at the time, DSOM's "long" heartbeat-only intro was a daring deconstruction of the whole way pop records were done, that kind of thing at the beginning is a head's-up that what comes after is gonna break some rules, wants to be listened to differently than the typical LP
  11:59pm
P-90:

Thanks, jj
catch you next time, be good
