Martha in the house! I like this caravan you're riding in on. Feeling much better I hope?

Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 12:11am Ken From Hyde Park:

I was under the assumption that WFMU has some Super Bowl tickets to give away. What's the phrase that pays, so I'll know when to call in? Is it supposed to be the 17th caller or what?
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:12am r in va:

Yay Martha!
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:13am P-90:

Hear that ostinato melody repeating in the background of the Map 71? Sounds like:
Verbal to your name
verbal to your name
verbal to your name
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:15am Martha:

Hi all - thanks for checking in - and sorry, no "Verbal..." this week -
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:19am ?:

What is 'verbal'???...How 'bout textual??...hehehe...:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:20am ccrides:

Sorry...I forgot to put my name..!..:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:22am P-90:

I wasn't requesting, just pointing out that melody in the Map 71 track that perfectly fit "verbal to your name" as a lyric
nevermind, I'm just sleep-deprived and getting punchy
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:23am Martha:

That's true - I agree - and frankly, I had trouble resisting pulling it this week - I am slightly obsessed -
  Sat. 2/1/14 12:25am ccrides:

Thinking always hurts 'my' head, Martha..!..hahaha...:)O(:..
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 1:50am coelacanth:

I guess i could put headphones on and bring it to its proper,sinus-clearing volume...But it's not the same as feeling it through my legs, which i can .
  Sat. 2/1/14 1:52am P-90:

sinus-clearing vs. leg-feeling, tough choice, I agree
@Coel: May I ask what kind of speakers?
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 1:52am Tome:

Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 1:54am Tome:

....& that sounds great also taken it down a bit from 2-3 ! cool beans
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 1:58am coelacanth:

P-90 They're just old (30 years?) genesis.'couldn't tell you the model, but it was the last year they made 30"tall hardwood cabinets (which i insisted on,cuz they'd be so fun to move!)...So i got em cheap,to make way for thin plywood replacements. I blew the foam years ago & duct-tapes em...'works fine!
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:00am coelacanth:

(duct-taped)
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:05am P-90:

Genesis was a formidable name back then. I think they're known for problems with that foam when they get old. These aren't the ones with the built-in subwoofers, are they? (Last question, promise)
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:09am P-90:

@Martha: R. Wyatt. an interesting twist at this juncture
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:12am Martha:

Well, we have been a bit heavy as of late - and I [heart] Robert Wyatt -
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:12am ccrides:

I can't hardly understand the way that guy talks when he's singin'...I'm trying to pick out a lyric???...hehehe...:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:19am ccrides:

I feel like I'm on an 'outer-space' ride..!..:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:22am ccrides:

Martha...I wish you would stop laughing..!..:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:23am P-90:

How many "Jimi Hendrix"'s could there have been?
@please: next time play that Soft Machine bits n pieces track
Bumin's always hoisting something
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:26am coelacanth:

Never heard that Robert Wyatt song. It's now my favorite Robert Wyatt song.
P-90 I didn't know much about it then, but that i liked the full sound,& they were guaranteed "forever"...(but forever is finite in the corporate world) They have each 1 speaker (8"?,maybe 10),tweeter & a "passive radiator"(8"?)which radiates out the bass that would otherwise be wasted inside the cabinet. (a speaker with no magnet).
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:27am ccrides:

The H-Pylori ulcer in a person's brain should be calmed, for a moment, by this...)O(
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:27am coelacanth:

Martha Jimi Hendrix was into Soft Machine. They opened for him,& he got them booked.
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:28am coelacanth:

...i mean "signed".
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:29am Martha:

Thanks for JH info! didn't know that - and apparently none of the four tracks on that CD have previously seen the light (ears?) of day -
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:29am P-90:

@coel: Cool. Robert Wyatt is one of those "founding Fathers", a musician's musician, yes that was a great track, don't think I've heard it...
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:31am P-90:

Re: above comment: now I KNOW I've never heard it. Loved it though.
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:31am coelacanth:

What a shame! That was excellent.
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:32am children:

(about it being shelved)
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:33am ccrides:

This sounds like a cross between U2, Simple Minds and The Call...with a little bit of the Tel Aviv Symphony Orchestra...thrown in..?...:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:41am ccrides:

Here we go!!!...:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:52am ccrides:

I feel like we should all feel like we are in the center of 'The Circle'..!..hehehe...:)O(:..
  Sat. 2/1/14 2:55am Martha:

Thanks for checking in - have a good w/end -
Avatar Sat. 2/1/14 2:56am coelacanth:

Martha you have the honor tonight of playing my first fmu starred songs. I dont know what other people are using that for,but i'll use it as a reference,so maybe to cut back on scraps of paper floating around here.

  Sat. 2/1/14 2:57am ccrides:
