ABOUT TODAY'S GUESTS: part one: Born and raised in Yantai, Shandong in China, Conrad Ma was drawn to the
hip-hop style of beatboxing from the very first moment he encountered it at the young age of eleven. Since then he has been both an avid fan and practitioner, dedicating all of his free time to perfecting this form of
vocal percussion, even adding his own style and flavor to it: his specialties include creating helicopter, water, owl, and electronic sounds. Over the past seven years Ma has done countless performances and entered (and won) numerous competitions in his homeland including the Chinese High School Beat Box contest. A year ago at age 17 he moved to the United States to finish his final year of school in North Carolina -all the while continuing to develop his beatboxing skills and get invited to perform at various events including at the TEDxRaleigh October 2014 conference. This week, while in NYC, he has done a series of beatboxing on the street sessions as well as being scheduled to do a concert performances at both the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and the Village Underground.

ABOUT TODAY'S GUESTS Pt II.: Dusky Diana and Tommy Turnstyles of the collective Community Education have been guests on WFMU several times before - the first time here in the Jersey City WFMU studios, the second time over in Dusseldorf Germany as a remote that they invited me/WFMU over to do with a focus on German and Turkish hip-hop (a lot of guests on that great remote broadcast). Then in summer of 2012 - after Tommy and Diana had relocated to Budapest Hungary - they once again invited me/WFMU to their new base to do a remote show - That session - conducted out of Tilos Radio (a cool indie Budapest radio station that models itself on WFMU) - was another fun live session with emcees and live musicians and beatboxer etc. all contributing their art. Recently Tommy and Diana returned to their native United States setting in NYC

ABOUT TODAY's GUESTS Pt III: Final Outlaw is an accomplished NYC emcee. He was an unexpected (and most welcome) guest on last week's remote broadcast of this show from Homeboy Sandman's home in upper Manhattan. So good was he that I invited him back again this week. The other invited guest today is Harlem based female rapper Toy who indicated that she would be here today but am not 100% sure she will be. Anyways she is an old hip-hop friend who I met 2 decades ago out in the Bay Area when she lived out there for many years recording music (solo and with a group) and doing shows.
