A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

You should have come yesterday. Onam -- Big day for Indian food, esp from Kerala region, where a lot of the Indians here come from. Awesome thali lunch. Probably included your seasonal vegetables but not how you're likely to cook them yourself? Unless maybe you're good at Indian cooking and I just didn't know it?

The Birds by William Carlos Williams

The world begins again!
Not wholly insufflated
the blackbirds in the rain
upon the dead topbranches
of the living tree,
stuck fast to the low clouds,
notate the dawn.
Their shrill cries sound
announcing appetite
and drop among the bending roses
and the dripping grass.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:18am Cecile:

Speaking of good eats, I made a great curry with some cod that was on sale. Yums.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:19am Adrian in London:

I also finished the Bettye Lavette autobiography. Just. Wow.
She's one of my very favorite singers, and I hope I never meet her. Her vanity and selfishness is commensurate with her incredible talent.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:21am tim from champaign:

Sounds good, Cecile.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:21am Mike East:

indian curry, Cecile? I did thai red curry w/ shrimp last week. Tomorrow I'm making Indian curry lentils w/ shrimp. (Shrimp was on sale)
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:22am Cecile:

It was - wasn't much more than spices, hot peppers and a big can of chopped tomatoes. You let it sit, and then cook and flake the fish at the end. My husband, who is indifferent/hostile to fish, loved it.
  Tue. 9/17/13 10:23am kwhitehead:

shrimp on sale =potentially dubious
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:24am Cecile:

Cod was on sale here, but I trust the place. It's a place with chandeliers and carpet (no lie). If someone gets sick, it's a state-wide scandal.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:27am Mike East:

it was frozen, so I figured I was safe.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:27am Cheri Pi:

I'm starving, must have curry. heya Peeple!
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:28am Cecile:

here is a kinder review of the book. I would give it an A for honesty and music-biz dirt:

Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:28am tim from champaign:

Lately, I've been making sauteed green beans with tons of garlic and other veggies with stir fried tofu marinated with sesame oil, soy sauce and rice wine vinegar. I also put the marinade on the veggies at the end of the saute.
Avatar Tue. 9/17/13 10:30am Cecile:

that sounds delicious, and we had green beans later that usual this year cause of the weird weather.
