Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I've somehow managed to destroy this beanbag.

RTD, is it the knife suit you are wearing?

Pirate freak flags are mundane up there. And nothing to be that alarmed about on this particular program, in my experience

RTD, I agree, Fabio is definitely bringing the great salivating gangster computergod this week. And who couldn't use a nice salivating gangster computergod now and then? I sure can.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:31pm DCE:

are we sure this isn't neu Neu!?
  Thu. 8/8/13 3:32pm davis:

i think they probably enjoy a neu record now and then

I LOVE THIS. Rod before he was a joke.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

NGH: I remember that Wire review. Thought it was totally off the mark. There's definitely a bunch of hollow derivative wannabe-kraut out there but Gnod has the deep. In my humble.

  Thu. 8/8/13 3:36pm davis:

Fabio, you should play Silver Mountain by Timmy's Organism. Or in my words, "the devendra barnhart diet song"
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:38pm fred:

I don't care what Wire says. I want to see Gnod live. Then I'll know. Or not. But I'll have seen them, and maybe remember most of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 3:38pm Cheri Pi:

i was chuckling about Unchained, a gnod to Van halen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 3:40pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:41pm Cecile:

the word bagel comes from the German word for stirrup I just learned.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:42pm fred:

Gnodding off/out now, fly that freak fly high folks
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:43pm northguineahills:

I suppose a bagel sort of looks like a stirrup where you put a foot.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:43pm northguineahills:

Mathew Bower kills!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:43pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I have always been surprised at how cheaply I have been able to pick up Skullflower releases here in Mpls.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:44pm Cecile:

i'd find them between $1-4 bucks. Probably not anymore, though.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:45pm northguineahills:

One thing I like about the Wire, is when a particular writer knocks an album in a certain way, I know I'll love it.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:45pm Cecile:

exactly, NGH.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:45pm northguineahills:

8o! I wish I could find cheap Skullflower releases!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 3:46pm Cheri Pi:

I love those crazy Carlton Melton kids. My favorite Wire contributer by far is Sherman Hemsley, he always gves the undeerdog a fair shake.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:46pm Cecile:

waaaaaaaaaaaaah, tim wright.

I went to MOMA sound art exhibit preview on Sunday, it was so much fun. Even my gf's friend, who's afraid of "experimental music", enjoyed it thoroughly (who was the friend that got us in).

Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 3:57pm Cheri Pi:

can he toast bagels? then YES! Garlic, salt, poppyseeds, onion bits.....tabasco
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:03pm Cecile:

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:05pm northguineahills:

I have poppy seeds on the crust of my curry pie I baked. Homegrown jalapenos, garlic and onions, and salt; that almost counts for non-bagel consumables, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 4:07pm Cheri Pi:

oh it counts NGH, it counts very much.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:08pm northguineahills:

Although I'm full, I want another slice....
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:08pm Cecile:

can't believe this came out on Kip Hanrahan's label.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:09pm Cecile:

I loved DNA because even though they were o noisy, they had so much space in their music.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:12pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I've always have been a big fan of DNA.

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:16pm northguineahills:

Man, Dean, I'd kiss you for that, thanks! (yes, hyperbole over the excitement of being able to later listen to DNA tracks I've yet to hear.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:16pm KOTJ:

Am I a dummy not to know Blonde Red Head was named after a DNA song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 4:17pm hamburger:

is the music behind DJ also DNA?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:17pm Cecile:

no, KOTJ. They weren't really a household name.
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:19pm ?:

YES Cecile, exactly. I loved Tim Wright and DNA is still my most favorite band of all time. He put me on the list at Hurrahs when I was like 19 and his waitress at Binibon and I was devoted ever since. When I ran into him in the 90's he was doing theatre stuff and had NO copies of Taste of DNA. ugh. He was a polymath shaman demiurge. RIP
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:19pm KOTJ:

Thanks, C. Phew. You can't know it all. There's still some mystery in the world.
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:19pm Ben:

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:20pm Cecile:

KOTJ, I personally starred at least four songs by groups I knew nothing about on Diane's show.
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:20pm Dean:

NGH: not hyperbole at all. I'm old enough to have purchased the No New York LP when it was released. Despite having purged much of my rock collection during the '80s, I retained that one. But damn, I got rid of the Mars vinyl!
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:22pm jeanli:

Squat Theatre, well it was early 80's when I saw them there. I was still in high schooli n 79 so I know it wasnt that early Fabio. They may have played there several times tho...yikes.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:22pm Cecile:

Boston had exactly 1 good song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 4:22pm Cheri Pi:

late Pink floyd, the kind my mom likes...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:22pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

oh yes, the dribble. It was oozing. Confirmed.
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:23pm Dean:

First coupla Journey albums aren't too bad. They rise above mere drivel.

The one good Boston song? Don't tell me...it's the one with the (faux-)Hammond B3 lead-in?
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:23pm Jack:

Some say that there was no Pink Floyd after Syd Barrett...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:23pm DCE:

Did the trailer have a bunch of quips from rock critic weenies all saying "Punk rock is the bathroom in CBGBs"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 8/8/13 4:26pm Cheri Pi:

That's great TfC! If that's what it takes to trick a band, I'm all for it
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:26pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Nice, Pierre H.
THERE'S the cicadas I've been waiting for.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:26pm KOTJ:

  Thu. 8/8/13 4:26pm Dean:

I named my first male born Chin Chow, but it was pronounced Clint Eastwood.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:20pm northguineahills:

I had a curious time at De Gaulle airport. Going from Berlin-Paris-Mexico City. My gf's visa expired while we were in Europe, so, she was going to Mexico to get it renewed. Unfortunately, our flight stopped in Altanta. So, the US immigration officer at De Gaulle refused to let her on the plane. So, she spent 3 days unable to get any of the French employees to help her (she speaks French), and it wasn't until she ran into a Kiwi passenger, that she got some real information. She bought a new $2700 direct ticket to Mexico City. Meanwhile, I was in Mexico City, bought a bus ticket to her parent's town, and I hadn't slept in 2.5 days. Her parents speak no English, and have never saw me. It worked out ok. I spent 3 days watching the Simpsons en espanol, and her mom cooked me more food then I could possible eat before my gf got to DF (Mexico City).
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:28pm fred:

@NGH: I lost track along the way. Did it get sorted out? I guess it did, you're here...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:31pm northguineahills:

Yeah, it all worked out, but my gf came away noticing that most French employees weren't that helpful. The Kiwi guy saved her ass (after going in and out of immigration multiple times).
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:35pm northguineahills:

The only 'French' I know is from yearly weekend benders at Mutek in Montreal.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:37pm fred:

I'm French, and I'd be first in line to tell you to avoid French people if you can. We're bitter and eager to get even with people who have nothing to do with it. Avoid us, we're assholes! I mean it
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:37pm glenn:

ah, franglais.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:40pm Cecile:

franglais is awesome.
In QC, I even ended up speaking espafranglais.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:40pm Negative Eclipse:

I like the Belgians.
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:41pm Bz:

Hey, was that just Mika Vanio ?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:42pm northguineahills:

After drinking, my brain puts all non-English languages as foreign, so, I sometimes mix Spanish-French-Japanese in the same phrase. It causes guffaws where ever I travel.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:42pm Cecile:

Belgians invented the French fry, and made the movie A Town Called Panic. I have love for the Belgians.

The bar in North Dakota that was in the movie Fargo used to be 3 blocks from my house. It got torn down and now is an AIDS hospice.

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:48pm Fabio:

Pan Sonic did play in the US, more than once, but not in a long time, prob, late 90's was the last time.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:48pm Cecile:

Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 6:00pm fred:

@Cecile: it's really complicated: long term economic grudges, festering immigration troubles, throw in volatile language troubles and a recent reversal of fortune (French-speakers used to rule, it went the other way) and it's been more volatile seeming than it actually was
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 6:27pm fred:

But it's pretty bad
