Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:03pm pacific standard simon:

What happened to last week? Couldn't do a show without me?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:04pm duke:

I ordered extra hinky
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:05pm Uncle Michael:

There was weather over me, as Doug put it.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:05pm Alex In Illinois:

UNcle Michael was in the hospital.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:06pm Alex In Illinois:

Oops. Was I wrong about the hospital? I seem to recall you posting things from within a hospital or something like that.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:08pm northguineahills:

Just took a shower, and banged my head against my bathroom cabinet. Now w/ this red stuff in my hair, I need to wash my hair again. Wish I had more platelets (actually is a real annoyance)
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:08pm pacific standard simon:

There's some suspicious activity going on between that couple in the lower left corner of your GIF, UM!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:08pm Uncle Michael:

Uncle Michael does not know why the track info is not appearing.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:09pm still b/p:

The tennis man in motion link provided the extra dinky for the morning shift.

Highway Star was VERY important in the age 15-16 smoky back-of-van days. It's still good fun -- the music, not the van.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

I think Jack Black should star in a new Asian cooking comedy: "School of Wok."

OK, that's all I got. Good night ladies and gents. You've been wonderful.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:12pm pacific standard simon:

Just get a sandwich and come back, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:12pm northguineahills:

Should I try the veal, Doug?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Unka Mickey
Everything looks a-ok with the playlist. I thought for a minute that Kenzo's fix for last week, needed to get turned off. But I guess everything's awright.

Have a great show!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:14pm duke:

Whenever I hear the intro The In-sounds from the US Army, I expect gunfire and explosions or at least a "ten-hut".
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:15pm Jay/London:

just come from listening to keilis show ...
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:15pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:16pm Brian in UK:

Hey Jay.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:19pm pacific standard simon:

Claudine channeling Baba Wawa.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:22pm Dominick:

How could this be 1968? Lennon didn't write Jealous Guy until 1970
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:23pm northguineahills:

Well, I believe Lennon Demoed it on the Get Back sessions in '68, but the lyrics were slightly different, and doubt many people heard it back then.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

faulty research on my part...look it up for me and I'll fix it.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:24pm northguineahills:

why did I capitalize that D, maybe that knock to my head was worse then I thought.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:25pm pacific standard simon:

BTW, you can play "Take This Job And Shove It" for me, if you feel like it.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:25pm Dominick:

OK, looked it up. All Music says Claudine's "Lets Spend the Night Together" LP was released in 1972
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:26pm still b/p:

Bathroom helmet legislation NOW.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:27pm northguineahills:

Actually, I'm one of those 'special' people that should wear a helmet at all times. Thank the gods I have a thick cranium.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:30pm Jay/London:

i was chucking stuff out hey Brian Hey hey Michael
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:30pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you Dominick!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:33pm still b/p:

An impact split my forehead a few months ago and I wear a new scar. Worried with all the recent attention given to concussion effects, but don't think I was concussed.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:35pm Uncle Michael:

A long-ass song by an artist I don't normally give much love to.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:38pm Uncle Michael:

I lied.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:39pm pacific standard simon:

Given your adolescent sweet spot (early 70s), I would have expected a later Zappa track.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:39pm Uncle Michael:

From when he really, really sucked?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:40pm pacific standard simon:

Well, yes, there's that...
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

See...flute is NOT for pussies.

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:43pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Sean...I'm holding my own.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:48pm northguineahills:

I've had more concussions then I care to count (most sport or bike related in my younger days), so it's safe to say there's a good chance I can look forward to dementia in my future.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:48pm Stanley:

Rats! missed Willie the Pimp.
Hi UM and listeners.
Hi jay - saw you peeping in.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 12:49pm holland oats:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:09pm Brian in UK:

@ngh it's a Barnsley chop for me today.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:10pm Uncle Michael:

Won't Barnsley miss it?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:11pm Uncle Michael:

The mrs. made beirocks last night. That shall be my lunch.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:11pm Uncle Michael:

Yeah, Simon...I need to dig deeper into Dark.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:13pm Stanley:

hehe.. I'm out soon for burger and beer. Fancy burger and beer, to be precise!
They've got Founders Centennial IPA.
Can't wait.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

I have to cut grass after the show but I might have to get my favorite local burger this evening. Not fancy...just the best in town.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:15pm Brian in UK:

The lamb will miss it.
You know when someone says maybe on the telephone bear with me. I go 'baaa'. (Sheep impression!) Normally is ignored.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:15pm Brian in UK:

Stanley do you have a bun with your burger?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:15pm Uncle Michael:

Don't eat Shawn the Sheep!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:17pm Brian in UK:

Well you are going to eat Adolph the Horse.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:17pm Stanley:

See ya later guys, bun and fun await.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:20pm pacific standard simon:

Oh dear, the washing machine deliverers are here! Dogs are freaking out!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:23pm still b/p:

Someone said he'd just have what I was having a couple of weeks ago, and when he sipped the Founder's IPA he looked startled and took a few moments to taste-acclimate. I like it.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

Brian, I don't buy groceries at Ikea.
Fri. 6/14/13 1:29pm Listening Out There:

I bumped into Mose on a BART train years back. Nice guy.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:30pm pacific standard simon:

Was Mose Allison bigger in the U.K. than in the States? He seems to have been a huge influence on The Who & The Yardbirds.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:31pm Uncle Michael:

That's been my impression.
Fri. 6/14/13 1:32pm Listening Out There:

Simon, it was prob similar to the effect American blues musicians had on 60s UK musicians.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:32pm Uncle Michael:

Mose still plays a lot of dates, I believe.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:35pm still b/p:

Ed Ward on Fresh Air had a piece the other day about Arctic Records and Barbara's single and the other personnel who went on to become artists of note.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

I'll have to listen to an archive of that. Ed's great.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:36pm still b/p:

Yes, Founder's much hop.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:40pm still b/p:

(...delayed/deferred attention due to to infernal tasks!)
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:44pm Uncle Michael:

it's those infernal internals
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:47pm Jeff Golick:

Ok, back to work.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

We have a winner...no more calls.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:08pm ken in denver:

Glad you're doing better, Uncle Michael. Missed you last week.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Ken...good to be where I'm supposed to be on a Friday.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:17pm still b/p:

Apropos of nuthin'....anybody see the Bacharach thing on PBS last week? They drove me to flailing seizures of irk when they refused to put a single show & date ID on ANY of the TV clips of song performances. Some from Bacharach specials, apparently, but it's nuts to leave out that info of interest. Didn't catch final credits to check there, but even so, wouldn't be the same as simple text in corner of screen.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

I missed it, to my chagrin.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:20pm Jeff Golick:

That MORE LIGHT album is a stunner. Slept on, I think, and a highlight even amid the entire Dinosaur Jr. discography.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:24pm still b/p:

Tunes and clips good in the Bacharach thing. Robert Wagner hosting with schmaltzy boilerplate, and PBS fundraising breaks like infomercial music collection pitches....not so good.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:26pm pacific standard simon:

When did they start calling Rick Nelson's father "Oz"?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:29pm efd:

San Pellegrino Limonata update: It was right under my nose the whole time, in the cafeteria at work.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:30pm ken in denver:

I saw Anthony Quinn onstage in Zorba the Greek. Never knew he was such a musical ladies man.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:30pm pacific standard simon:

Dane Rock Rools!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

JESUS CHRIST, EVAN. How did you like it?
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:31pm Uncle Michael:

(Zorba and Limonata)
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:31pm Uncle Michael:

Somethin' is ROCKIN' in the state of Denmark!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:33pm pacific standard simon:

CBS put out a useful double-LP introduction to Gasolin.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:34pm efd:

It's good! Slightly more bitter/sour than the Fanta Limon, but a reasonable facsimile.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

Simon, I have that and it's good but missing some essential stuff.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:35pm Uncle Michael:

Definitely more grown up tasting than Fanta.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

Bruins fan, efd?
  Fri. 6/14/13 2:45pm Groucho Marx:

My father was a little headstrong. My mother was a little Armstrong. The Headstrongs married the Armstrongs, and that's why darkies were born
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:47pm pacific standard simon:

I'll be spending an evening with you tonight, Groucho, at ACT.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:47pm efd:

I was a Bruins fan when I paid more attention to hockey, but baseball is the only sport I follow closely now.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:48pm pacific standard simon:

Wow, UM -- a favorite!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

Same here, Evan....but totally, shamelessly on the Blackhawks bandwagon.
Fri. 6/14/13 2:55pm Listening Out There:

ally Bellew here...
Fri. 6/14/13 2:57pm Listening Out There:

Occasionally, Irwin plays from a collection of Bob and Ray outtakes & air checks. Great stuff...
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 2:58pm still b/p:

Bruins fan for only one storied season: '69-'70.
Fri. 6/14/13 3:00pm Listening Out There:

With "Bizzarre Love Triangle," ordering a BLT will never be the same...
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 3:00pm Uncle Michael:

I'm going all politically incorrect on the playlist's ass today.
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 3:02pm pacific standard simon:

...and a fond "so long!" Uncle Michael!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 3:02pm pacific standard simon:

'til next week.
  Fri. 6/14/13 4:48pm lspin:

Where else can we hear Deep Purple and Claudine Longet? Nicely done, Uncle Michael!
Avatar Fri. 6/14/13 6:58pm Doug Schulkind:

Is it too late to make a request?
