This is Jeff Lynne being more Ray Davies than Lennon/MCartney, for a change.

Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:14pm Tony Coulter:

Is C.B.P. some exotic drug or sumpin?
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:15pm Carmichael:

It was a name for the blue liquid LSD at that time, but I don't know which came first.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:15pm pacific standard simon:

Maybe it was the name of a mob hooker.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:17pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:18pm Carmichael:

This is not Doug Ingle singing, is it?
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:19pm Uncle Michael:

It's a great book, Carmichael. It's all about how this hack speed-freak chooses a mobbed-up gonif as his surrogate father and winds up a bigger apologist for him than Brian Wilson is to Murry.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Duke.

It is Ingle single I believe. He has a really unique voice -- has a trace of overtone-singing harmonics.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:20pm Tony Coulter:

Ingle SINGING -- jeez.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:20pm Uncle Michael:

What a great goddam set.

Sure is!
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:23pm Uncle Michael:

But, seriously...the book was a lot of fun!

I'll be back.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:25pm Tony Coulter:

I'll keep the porch light burning....
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:27pm Carmichael:

I have a Beefheart 4-track EP that has Her I Am, I Always Am and Out of the Frying Pan (Into the Flame). I may have Safe as Milk and Ice Cream for Crow somewhere.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

"Mirror Man" was my first Beefheart album, in 7th grade and bought just for the cover -- it hooked me permanently.

Heya, Gen "Sparks" Ken!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:45pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener James from Westwood
The cool thing about the "Show All Channels" option on the front page is that it shows the now-playing info for the Drummer Stream even when there is no show running. That info is presented 24 hours a day!
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:47pm listener james from westwood:

excellent. never know when you might want to jump into the stream to catch part of a fave!
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:50pm Carmichael:

Kenzo deserves a hearty round of applause for not only his work on the streams and homepage, but for solving the IE incompatabilities with the DJ pages. I owe you a beer, Kenzo.

Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:54pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Always glad to hear that people are liking...
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:54pm Jeff Golick:

Fascinating: "It is a political concept album mainly about feminism but with several more conventional songs about romance as well, both unusual themes for Steppenwolf. Some critics saw the album as sexist, citing the lyrics of the songs and an image of a vehicle shaped like male genitalia [pictured] in the [inner gatefold]."
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

Kenzo!!! Three cheers indeed.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:55pm Tony Coulter:

@ Jeff G: The penis car!

seconded. kenzo, you do great work.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:55pm pacific standard simon:

I suspect that if Kenzo were delivered every beer owed, all at once, that might be the last we'd hear of him.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 12:55pm Jeff Golick:

KENZO WALKS AMONG US!!
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 12:57pm pacific standard simon:

the weiner car always needs a little mustard.

Half the jobs I'm looking at come with little pee cups attached.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:01pm still b/p:

Been years since I heard Always Crashing. Seems even mellower than I remembered.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:02pm Ike:

Ah, an excellent choice from Siouxsie.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:02pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, still b/p! And Ike too!
  Tue. 5/14/13 1:05pm Erella inToronto:

I am still stunned that you played Polyrock. I used to go hear them play all the time. I know there were other fans but as the years have passed I began to think I was the only one.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:07pm Tony Coulter:

Hi Erella! I LOVE Polyrock. I saw them once when I was in college -- wish I'd seen them more often.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:07pm Rich in Washington:

Is this Mirrors the Cleveland band?
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

Hola Senor Rich! Yep, this is the Cleveland Mirrors.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:09pm DARK STAR MAN:

Hi there Tony,
enjoying the Mirror's track you are playing!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:09pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Dark Star Man! Glad to hear it....
  Tue. 5/14/13 1:10pm MrFab:

Yep, was also surprised/happy to hear Polyrock - used to play that album all the time in the '80s. I also thought I was their only fan, heh heh.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:10pm DARK STAR MAN:

Tony,
does the new playing format MP3/POP UP player mean that the show will be available for download immediately end of show?
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:11pm Tony Coulter:

Nope -- there'll be the same wait (an hour or two).
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@DARK STAR MAN
No, the archive is separate from the "live" playing option. The archive gets posted usually within 60-90 minutes after the show ends.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

ALL HAIL KENZO!

@duke: CWCD, Carmicael mentioned the book first.

GTDR needs more Dark Star Men. (DRKSTAR is my license plate).
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:14pm DARK STAR MAN:

oh I just thought that the conversion of the old shows took along time to convert to MP3 - whereas the new shows were already in MP3 format?
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:15pm Tony Coulter:

Nah, it's more a question of linking the archive.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

@DSM: The live shows are streaming well...live...the archived shows are a saved file that's a recoding of that portion of the stream. Those files are .MP3 files for a time...then .MP4 files in perpetuity (if I understand correctly).
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:17pm still b/p:

Because we are never ever satisfied, and always want more more more improvements and benefits, we might like to see a year column added to track info. And we might want a neck rub.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:19pm Uncle Michael:

@sbp: Which columns are utilized are a function of DJ discretion.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:20pm Tony Coulter:

I usually do include year and label -- but since such a high percent of what I'm playing today is by "famous" artists (high percent for me, anyhow), I figured I'd give my typing fingers a break.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:21pm pacific standard simon:

[Awaits the Tony Coulter neck-rub option.]
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:22pm listener james from westwood:

that's at the 100x mouse-pledge level.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:24pm still b/p:

Give the Digits Some.....Break. No prob, no complaints. Nice show and to have it makes me a prosperous man today
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:28pm Uncle Michael:

I love a man with a effects processor.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:28pm Uncle Michael:

Can it core a effects processor?
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:29pm northguineahills:

Huh, Lush covered this The Gist track.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:29pm pacific standard simon:

Wonder if there's a Siouxsie tribute band called Sousé and The Bad Shes.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

Took me a while to come up with that effect -- so I gotta use it.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:31pm Tony Coulter:

Souffle and the Bad Shoes
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:32pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:32pm still b/p:

Egbert Sousé ("accent grave over the e") and the Bad Shes?
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:32pm pacific standard simon:

Don't you go talking to strange DJs.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:33pm pacific standard simon:

Then I'll be a WICKED prosperous man today!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:47pm DARK STAR MAN:

seemed to have lost year information?
this SHORTY'S PORTION track sounds uncannily like Supertramp (Dreamer) - what year is it from?
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:50pm Tony Coulter:

It's from '75. I'm taking a break from typing years and labels today -- will go back to it next time.
  Tue. 5/14/13 1:50pm Cowell:

who is singing? A. Moore
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:51pm Tony Coulter:

Fred Frith, I think.
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 1:53pm DCE:

In and out a bit this afternoon but excellent show!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:55pm DARK STAR MAN:

Tony in an echo chamber - King Tony meets the Coulters Uptown!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:56pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, Michael! And hello to ya, DCE!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 1:58pm DARK STAR MAN:

In my bloated opinion - although the T.REX stuff aint bad the 1967-70 Tyrannesaurus Rex albums beat them by a mile - truly psychedelic, mystical cosmic troubadour songwriting - from My people were fair to A Beard of Stars - totally killer!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Agreed ... and I think even Bolan would have agreed. He was interestingly straightforward about trying to become more accessible and mainstream with the change from Tyrannosaurus to T.

@ Dark Star Man: Yes, Eno was still a member at that point.
  Tue. 5/14/13 2:07pm MrFab:

Yep. this was Eno era. Their second, just before he split.

Bowie, Roxy, B52s, Sparks, Stooges...Weird how you are playing so much from my teens years, Tony. Has me wondering if I have any homework due tomorrow...

Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:29pm DARK STAR MAN:

Question: When was the last time Tony played any HOT TUNA?
Answer: May 15 2006 - Been So Long First Pull Up, Then Pull Down
That was a party political broadcast by the Jefferson Airplane Alumni Society (JAAS HOLLES!)
Avatar    Tue. 5/14/13 2:32pm Carmichael:

I saw Devo a few months ago, and they kicked some righteous electronic synthesized ass. I was happily surprised.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:32pm northguineahills:

Well, this seems to be a new direction by Tony, CCR.
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:32pm DARK STAR MAN:

Tony, when are you getting out of that western cesspool, coming back to the embrace of the east.... grey cement, smog, lunatic geniuses living on the street..
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:46pm DARK STAR MAN:

I am sure that Guess Who track sounded uncannlily like - T.Rex 'Buick MacKane'!
Avatar Tue. 5/14/13 2:47pm Tony Coulter:

@ Dark Star Man: Believe it or not, I've never seen the movie. But to answer your question: Probably the Incredible String Band -- because they were so low-key about the whole thing. They weren't in the movie, though, were they? I've seen footage of them there somewhere.
