Hello Rob!
Avatar 6:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

We were discussing 'Cambodian Rocks' a bit on Jason Elbogen yesterday A.M. Thx for playing to hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Rob Weisberg:

Greetings Bas, good evening, everyone...
Avatar 6:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...relating to that...Great stuff!
  6:21pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi Rob and hello one and all
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Bas NL:

Hey Sean. Hope you enjoy this as much as i do! Great songs Rob!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Rob Weisberg:

New Yorkers, I hope you can join us for a live remote at Barbes, 9th St. and 6th Ave in Brooklyn next Saturday April 13th with FIVE groups performing music of Eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia. Some amazing vocalists including one of Turkey's masters of Ottoman classical music. Get there early - the show starts at 6 pm!
  6:34pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hey Bas, what part of Holland so you live in, just came back from an awesome trip to Amsterdam. Great set, Rob
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Bas NL:

Hi Sean; hey Amsterdam's our best bit. i'm in Utrecht, central to the Netherlands. And i'm sorry to say i only got a glimpse of Bristol passing through to the SW of the UK..
Avatar 6:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This African singer sounds like Captain Beefheart~Howlin' Wolf! : )
  6:48pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Bas, great museum in Utrecht dedicated to clock work musical instruments, spent a very pleasurable couple of hours there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Rob Weisberg:

Wow, the Utrecht clock work musical instrument museum sounds amazing. I've been to the famous Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam which has a great global musical instruments exhibit but I must confess I've never been to Utrecht!
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Bas NL:

@Sean: 'Van speelklok tot pierement'! Yes, that's awesome! ;) And we have a HUGE record fair twice a year, claimed to be the largest in the world!
Avatar 6:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Shiyani Ngcobo beautiful
Avatar 6:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Beyond the Beat Generation' is an online 24/7 Stream of 60's Punk (Garage Rock, whathaveyou) - kinda stuff I love - from some mad archivist in Amsterdam!: Obviously quite a place!...
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Bas NL:

Tivoli De Helling is 200 yards from my house... i'll go!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Rob Weisberg:

Conveniently located Bas! Bombino is pretty wild - he plays Tuareg guitar with Hendrix style.
Avatar 7:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Enjoy Bas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Mike East:

i saw on a list somewhere that bombino has a special record store day release
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:05pm Bas NL:

@RRN63: I think i know one of the DJs there! And De Helling it is then!
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Brian in UK:

Good evening Rob & listeners. Syllart/Syliphone have a wonderful recorded archive of sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Ike:

Hey hey! Was just listening while driving back from Fattal's Bakery in Paterson. Can't believe I haven't been there before. Cool place. Of course w/this music, now I want Cambodian food, which is a tall order.
  7:21pm dc pat:

Great tunes! What am I doing here??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Rob Weisberg:

Good evening and right you are Brian! And Ike, yes, Paterson is great for Turkish and South American food among other things... but yeah, not so great for Cambodian! For that I recommend Shirley Ave. in Revere MA (near Boston) - but that's a bit of a field trip. Otherwise see if you can find the Cambodian food truck that often parks near NYU...
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Brian in UK:

The gorgeous seaweed has got me fancying some laver bread and I'm not even hungry!
  7:27pm dc pat:

Must make effort to catch your show more often..
  7:27pm Phil:

What's going on? Why is there a an Asian couple speaking?
Avatar 7:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& this Thai singer reminds me slightly more of Indian Carnatic singers...fascinating & tasty stuff, Mr. Weisberg...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Rob Weisberg:

Thanks DC Pat and Phil, that's Mor Lam, a theatrical genre from Northeast Thailand and Laos that's very talky. Even in the more modern pop versions of the genre boy/girl couple songs are very common. Like Gainsbourg and Birkin, but usually bit more polite...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Ike:

Wow Brian, never heard of laver bread. At first I thought you meant lavash bread. Nope, very different!
  7:32pm Phil:

I have been away from wfmu for a few years I just tuned back in and thought the station changed formats or was sold to an Asian broadcasting company
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Brian in UK:

Ike, it's seaweed harvested mainly in South Wales around Swansea. Eaten at breakfast with cockles (optional) bacon & eggs. Yum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Ike:

Rob, I still haven't gotten over to that Cambodian truck. Oh well, there's always Laotian and Thai food at Pho Thai Lao in Maywood NJ.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Brian in UK:

It is very rich & nourishing does not appeal to everyone, deep in flavour as you would imagine coming from the sea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rob Weisberg:

Well I will say Phil, if I ever became Program Director things would get very interesting... but don't worry, it ain't happening! You can still get your full share of the usual FMU fare from Anthrax to Z'ev, just keep tuned...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Mike East:

just got the go ahead from the wife to order up some sushi. Its a good Saturday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Rob Weisberg:

Lao food in Maywood NJ you say Ike - ! Well, must check into that... thanks for the tip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Ike:

There were not a ton of Laotian dishes on the menu the last time I went, but they have very good Laotian larbs.
Avatar 7:42pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

We need to be able to tag food comments.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Brian in UK:

How are you folks fixed for Malaysian food?
  7:43pm Phil:

Wfmu hasn't changed since 2009? Ok..well that's good to hear. I like the app and the ability to download shows:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Rob Weisberg:

There was a bit of a Malaysian restaurant boom some years ago, there are even some Malaysian restaurants in suburban outposts, but the quality varies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Ike:

Brian, we have a few Malaysian places but at best, it tops out at "good, but not great" here, IMO. A friend tells me it's much, much better in Malaysia. I must go someday.
Avatar 7:51pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Last time WFMU changed format was about two hours ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Mike East:

SOB's is a pain in my ass. They're great guys but they're consistently putting very last minute orders...for wireless mics and the like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Ike:

Some friends and I recently checked out Taste Good Malaysian in Elmhurst, Queens. The sizzling tofu was excellent but everything else was lackluster. And the noodles were lousy.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Brian in UK:

Was Aurelio friends with Andy Palacio? I would never guess where that music comes from.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Brian in UK:

Singapore Laksa does it for me a meal in a bowl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Ike:

Can you get good laksa in the UK? Taste Good's laksa was boring. We have much MUCH better Thai than Malaysian.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Brian in UK:

It tastes OK, Ike but never having been to source who knows. I make it at home also but cheat using paste from a jar.
Time for bed methinks.
