In a box somewhere I have a can of shaving powder and a thing of eye shadow that purportedly belonged to Robert Smith. The "modern rock" station in Dallas launched around the time The Cure came through on the "Disintegration" tour and they had a contest to win various items that were [supposedly] given to the station by Robert. I really wanted his PJs but somebody else ended up getting them. :sad trombone: |

I spent my 21st birthday at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park seeing Lush. If I could have picked a band to have play on that birthday they'd be on a very short list. They were excellent as usual. An unimportant act called Weezer opened. At Lollapalooza '92 I felt like they won the award for band that put those enormous stacks of speakers to the best use. The sound was like a steady wind. I remember it vividly. I miss Lush. |

BadGuyZero:
The elevator might be from the 30s. That thing was making scary noises. When we were taking Best Show swag next door to the post office I opted for the stairs. |

I started taking it recently... it's not TOO bad. As long as you don't jump up and down a lot while it's moving. That's no good. Or so I hear. |

I know someone who didn't use any NYU elevator for years (fortunately, worked on the 4th floor), and didn't use the subway either (the train stops in the tunnel sometimes). Fortunately over that in recent years... |

@G the NYU elevators are hell, we're talking 25-30 people in them at the same time. I wrecked my knees walking down the stairs to avoid them. I'm not claustrophobic, but when things stop moving, I start to wonder if they will start again! |

The person I'm mentioning got caught on an NYU elevator a few times for anywhere from a few minutes to maybe half an hour (not in Main or a classroom building), then started walking up and down four flights for about a decade (roughly the 90s). They renovated the elevators and eventually, and they got another try. They're better now. In that one building. |

I used to work in a building that had elevators that would stop one or two feet above or below the floor and also sometimes continue to move once the doors opened. I was terrified of those elevators [worked on the 11th floor] especially after Jerry Fuchs died. I got laid-off a few months after Jerry died so it became a non-issue. |
