LUSH!! And now a Strawberry Switchblade cover!!
Are filling in for Therese again, Julie? :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:08am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Therese and fans!
And GO Baltimore!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:09am BadGuyZero:

Baltimore *ugh*
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:10am Julie:

LOL Matt, I don't have to be there, I can control her brain from home
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:10am G:

Quoth the Ravens, Nevermore (obvious line, I know)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:11am G:

First accessorized-goth team to win the Super B.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:11am Julie:

ooh nice, G!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:12am Matt from Springfield:

Telepathic mind radio programming control!
Just when I thought entering and visiting others' dreams was the height of metaphysical quirkiness at this hour!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:13am Julie:

#gothbowl..I'm running with that..
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:13am Matt from Springfield:

Edgar Allen Poe!
A contest of 19th century references, with the 1849er prospectors, and the Raven poem.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:13am amEdeo:

Is the Super Bowl over?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:14am G:

Go for it, J. Hey, purple/black uniforms, raven/crow animal mascot on helmet, Poe allusion. You ain't gonna get much gothier than that out of something as mainstream-culture as an NFL team
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:15am G:

after the 30 minute blackout in the stadium (eerie touch), I thought it would never end
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:16am Therese:

Hi all! And yes, I think I may be channeling Julie this evening...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:16am Matt from Springfield:

@amEdeo: Yes, you can come out now.

@Julie: I imagine a Goth Bowl would be a dance fight with way too many colored lights and FX, and you couldn't tell the teams apart because they all wear black clothing and white face paint.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:17am BadGuyZero:

"Disintegration" has come up in conversation several times today.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:17am Matt from Springfield:

Great avatar, BGZ!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:18am Andrew Waterloo:

we're off to a very good start
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:19am BadGuyZero:

Thanks Matt! It's a t-shirt I own, but shrunk to tiny avatar size it kind of looks like Jack Skellington.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:24am BadGuyZero:

In a box somewhere I have a can of shaving powder and a thing of eye shadow that purportedly belonged to Robert Smith. The "modern rock" station in Dallas launched around the time The Cure came through on the "Disintegration" tour and they had a contest to win various items that were [supposedly] given to the station by Robert. I really wanted his PJs but somebody else ended up getting them. :sad trombone:
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:24am Tome:

hi Therese, hi ya kiddles...really liking this Portishead number too.,.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:25am amEdeo:

You are the only person I have ever met with their very own sad trombone player. I applaud you.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:26am BadGuyZero:

Was I the only one of us acting like a maniac when "m b v" was released yesterday?

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:26am Droll:

You are the only person I have ever met who needed sad trombones to talk about Robert Smith's PJs.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:28am BadGuyZero:

@amEdeo: The sad trombone player used to accompany me at all times but I had to scale back on hiring her once she joined the STPU [Sad Trombone Players' Union].
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:28am amEdeo:

Are you kidding? People were going crazy right and left and right again, all over the place in the electronic streets of the internet.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:29am G:

@BGZ: gothamist.com's story on the MBV release today seemed to indicate there was a not minuscule demo quite interested last evening when it was released
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:30am G:

STPU, not to be confused with STFU (which is my Meyers Briggs)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:30am Matt from Springfield:

Admittedly eye shadow would be more relevant to Robert Smith than his PJs. Wait...did he ever wear those PJs in a music video??!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:31am Julie:

Wow Therese, killing it tonight with the upside down bat sounds
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:31am KP:

Hi, Therese.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:31am Matt from Springfield:

@G: I would be a KOTJ (Kick Out The Jams).
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:33am Matt from Springfield:

Makes me want to hang by my toes from a rafter. I'm already a mammal too, so that's a plus.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:34am KP:

Never knew Portishead was city until i drove through, or i guess by, it.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:34am BadGuyZero:

@Matt: thescenestar.typepad.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:35am Droll:

BGZ, I screamed like a schoolgirl and dropped what I was doing when I heard mbv was finally released. I like it, so I expect the reviews should be unusually cruel.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:35am KP:

BGZ, i think you can attest i was talking Robert Smith earlier in day.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:36am Matt from Springfield:

WOW! But aw hell, now I want his copy of that Beano!!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:36am BadGuyZero:

@G: I think Julie can attest to the absolute tizzy I was in yesterday while trying to get that new MBV record.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:36am BadGuyZero:

Oh snap...KP and I just both used the word "attest." *hee!*
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:36am KP:

Hey this is them. Ithought the first track was.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:37am Matt from Springfield:

@Droll: How do you think it compares to their previous albums? A lot of reviewers online seemed to compare the latest MBV with previous works.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:37am KP:

THere will be attest later.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:38am Julie:

the frenzy over the MBV album from people who don't even like them kinda soured my excitement
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:38am G:

Sorry, BGZ, it took me a couple minutes to see your comment. I was gazing at my shoes :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:38am Andrew Waterloo:

I bought it, I really like it, I was curious about what the reaction would look like, wasn't overly excited myself.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:38am G:

and I'm barefoot, so that took some doing
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:39am BadGuyZero:

I was hitting the F5 button like I was playing Galaga. I caught the site just as it went live then experienced the crash when trying to add the vinyl/CD/digital bundle to my shopping cart. The next few hours really made me question exactly what the hell I'm doing with my life.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:39am Julie:

Chile? she's broadcasting from Chile!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:39am G:

Chili tonight, hot tamale.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:39am BadGuyZero:

There was a creepy Paul Harvey "God made a farmer commercial" that has to be seen to be believed.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:40am BadGuyZero:

Yesterday #MBV was trending higher than "Super Bowl" on Twitter.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:40am Matt from Springfield:

Ciudad Gersia, Chile.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:40am Droll:

Julie, My reaction to all the hype was "where were all these fans in the 90's?" My friends all hated my shoegaze collection in the 90's.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:41am Andrew Waterloo:

The Paul Harvey commercial was a direct rip off of a Youtube video
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:41am Julie:

@Droll I think when people saw how it was getting buzz, they jumped on board
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:41am BadGuyZero:

@Andrew: I guess I haven't seen said YouTube clip. I thought it was Jerry Fallwell speaking.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:41am G:

bandwagon jumpers :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:42am BadGuyZero:

FEBRUARY 2, 2013: The day shoegazers became shoethrowers.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:42am Julie:

I thought that was a great line, BGZ
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:43am BadGuyZero:

My first Lollapalooza was 1994.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:44am Andrew Waterloo:

I'm bandwagon phobic. Didn't take much for me to simply do something else for a few hours while the 403 error worked itself out.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:44am Ike:

Lush was GREAT at Lolla '92 outside of D.C. although I missed a big chunk of their set. Ice Cube was terrible.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:44am Julie:

I have never been lively, I'm not going to start now
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:44am G:

Death to Lively!!! :)
  Mon. 2/4/13 12:44am Colm:

I hopped the fence for that show
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:45am amEdeo:

dooo dooo dooo
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:45am amEdeo:

(that was to the tune of "Underwater Moonlight")
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:46am BadGuyZero:

I remember hearing that Ice Cube's crew were selling bootlegged tour laminates to people on Lolla 92.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:46am Julie:

Therese you're making me want some Harold Budd now!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:46am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Always have some Harold Budd around. Always!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:48am G:

Bud is ok to have on hand in case of need.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:48am Droll:

BGZ, No Head No Backstage Pass -- G. Clinton
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:49am BadGuyZero:

@Matt: shop.beano.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:50am KP:

Gazing at my socks.
  Mon. 2/4/13 12:50am Colm:

I remember Lush dancing for Ministry
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:51am amEdeo:

Whoever used that toilet last should be ASHAMED of themselves.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:51am BadGuyZero:

@Droll: George and the P-Funk All-Stars were on the 94 tour. I have tales from the second Dallas show.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:52am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: I presume the original Parliament broke up beyond repair? That must be the lineup that appeared with George in 1994's "PCU".
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:53am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: I have alternately bare feet and slippers to gaze at.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:53am G:

@amEdeo: pic or bs :P
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:54am BadGuyZero:

Don't get hooked, amEdeo.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:55am Julie:

oooh yes
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:55am Droll:

BGZ, If you didn't pay for the laminate or apply Chapstick, I'd love to hear your gossip. You can reach me via the Fiend Society.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:55am G:

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:55am Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, slowdivin' and shoegazin' Lee Hazlewood cover! YES!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:55am amEdeo:

Toilet paper EVERYWHERE. Looked like a house on Halloween. Ok. Not that bad. But still. Was not expecting that and.... stuff... ok not going into it anymore.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:56am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I spent my 21st birthday at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park seeing Lush. If I could have picked a band to have play on that birthday they'd be on a very short list. They were excellent as usual. An unimportant act called Weezer opened.

At Lollapalooza '92 I felt like they won the award for band that put those enormous stacks of speakers to the best use. The sound was like a steady wind. I remember it vividly.

I miss Lush.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:56am KP:

Never heard this cover. Thanks
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:57am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Therese, this is a great show so far. Good work.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:57am Matt from Springfield:

And Souvlaki, that's also great. Shoe-vlaki.
  Mon. 2/4/13 12:59am Marmalade Kitty:

double header Ride and cocteau twins are coming to town! Yeah!
  Mon. 2/4/13 12:59am ScottC:

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:00am Julie:

CT's? The CT"s are playing??
  Mon. 2/4/13 1:00am ScottC:

the only band worth risking the newly installed pins in my knee down in the pit... crazy youth
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:01am KP:

This is weird. I am putting together a comp not exclusively of this type of material. And here it is.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:02am Andrew Waterloo:

Cocteau Twins?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:03am KP:

ScottC, Swervedriver?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:03am G:

I don't see anything in their wiki article or on their website about touring...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:03am BadGuyZero:

@MK: I think it's just Robin Guthrie and Mark Gardener.
  Mon. 2/4/13 1:04am Marmalade Kitty:

well its actually robin guthrie trio and mark gardner from ride
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:04am Andrew Waterloo:

This is a really good Nadja album
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:04am BadGuyZero:

This must be one of Nadja's shorter songs. *hee!*
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:04am Droll:

Beth Fraser live? I think mbv excitement has met it's match.
  Mon. 2/4/13 1:05am ScottC:

@KP can't shake 'em after 20yrs "Blown Cool" is high mark...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:05am Andrew Waterloo:

I saw Nadja live in an old gristmill without about 30 people
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:06am BadGuyZero:

@Andrew: I'm envious.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:07am Andrew Waterloo:

Yah.. Waterloo rarely gets good shows.. but we have a thing for location.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:07am Matt from Springfield:

Will Robin Guthrie be playing spacey guitar riffs at least?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:07am Matt from Springfield:

@Andrew: You'd think they'd all be lining up to play in that gristmill.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:08am Andrew Waterloo:

Well.. it is centrally located.. but you have to go a block down the street to go to the bathroom
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:09am Julie:

this Nadja is awesome
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:10am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:12am Andrew Waterloo:

drummer from Jesus Lizard on this album as well
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:13am Andrew Waterloo:

I have to say Swans is another significant comeback story.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:14am BadGuyZero:

That thing I said earlier about this probably being one of Nadja's shorter songs? I take it back. *HA!*
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:16am BadGuyZero:

@Andrew: I saw Swans a couple of years ago and it was one of the most emotionally intense shows I've experienced. There was this feeling that Michael Gira was going to become unhinged at any moment and annihilate us all.
  Mon. 2/4/13 1:18am Marmalade Kitty:

so I have Robin Guthrie trio with Mark Gardner to look forward to on valentines day! Mark Gardner was a pin up 20 years ago.. It'll be interesting to see how he is doing :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:18am Julie:

Therese this show kicks ass tonight, mind if I just rerun it on thursday? :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:19am Andrew Waterloo:

@BDG, I saw them in Toronto last fall. very powerful performance. The Seer is one of their best albums
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:25am Andrew Waterloo:

I must go now.. have a good night everyone.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:27am Matt from Springfield:

I'm going too after the mic break...Good night Andrew! Good night everyone! The show kicks ass tonight, Therese!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:33am amEdeo:

Good night Andrew and Matt!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:33am KP:

Night Andrew. My cat woke me up
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:34am BadGuyZero:

EFD is going to totally nerd-out over John Carter [not from Mars].
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:35am Julie:

Sound of Summer is awesome, it sounds very Moody blues to me
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:47am BadGuyZero:

I wonder if Belle & Sebastian will be playing any other shows in the U.S. while they're over here to play Pitchfork Fest.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:48am KP:

What do they sound like live? Seems hard to capture that.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:53am tomB:

Alway liked Words, never liked the Monkees vocal. Thanks Terese!
  Mon. 2/4/13 1:59am Marmalade Kitty:

Has anyone heard of the band Syd Arthur? I hadn't, but have booked up to see 'em for the name alone :) Barrett Lee! Ive listened to a couple of songs since; one I liked and one I didn't so I'll wait and see!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:02am BadGuyZero:

@KP: I've never seen nor heard B&S. I wouldn't think it would be a difficult task to replicate that sound. Just not in a festival setting.

@MK: I haven't heard of them. What type of sounds are they making?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:03am amEdeo:

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:04am KP:

On Monkees' recent tour they sort of started with what seemed like the Boyce & Hart movie that has been in works.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:05am BadGuyZero:

As someone who has professionally installed devices that utilize a pilot light I can attest that most gas devices now have a sensor that shuts the gas off if the pilot light goes out. I think the building will be fine.
  Mon. 2/4/13 2:06am Marmalade Kitty:

They are regarded as on of the bands at the forefront of psych revival in the uk, inspired by soft machine etc..
www.guardian.co.uk › Culture › Music › New band of the day
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:06am BadGuyZero:

I ordered this single earlier tonight!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:06am KP:

Just guessing you might have seen them on tv or something. You are right they don't sound very festival.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:07am amEdeo:

BGZ: Yeah, except everything in this building is from the 1930s.
  Mon. 2/4/13 2:07am Marmalade Kitty:

that article is 2 years old!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:07am amEdeo:

We have to shovel coal into a furnace to keep the heat on.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:08am G:

Keep the hamsters running on their treadmills for the electric...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:08am BadGuyZero:

@MK: Hmm...that kind of stuff is very hit-and-miss with me. I'll look for something and give it a listen.

@amEdeo: Lies! I've been in that building and lots of stuff is newer than 1930s. I've told you a million times to quit exaggerating.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:09am KP:

Wait Hank IV can't call his record that!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:10am G:

@MK: I looked Syd Arthur up, and oddly in the wiki article for the Lounge on the Farm festival held in Canterbury annually since 2006, SA is listed as playing every year, but are just about the only band listed that doesn't have a wiki page...

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:11am KP:

The flip top ampeg bass amp is def. from the '30s.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:12am amEdeo:

BGZ: That building was a cheap inflatable ploy, that we bring out every year for the marathon. The real station is a shack out in the parking lot. Our servers are powered by hamsters roasting cocktail weenies. Don't ask how it works. I only work here.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:13am BadGuyZero:

The elevator might be from the 30s. That thing was making scary noises. When we were taking Best Show swag next door to the post office I opted for the stairs.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:14am Julie:

oh the elevator of death..I take it frequently...and I fear..I fear
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:15am amEdeo:

I started taking it recently... it's not TOO bad. As long as you don't jump up and down a lot while it's moving. That's no good. Or so I hear.
  Mon. 2/4/13 2:16am Marmalade Kitty:

thanks for that info, G! I agree with hit and miss, BGZ!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:17am BadGuyZero:

@amEdeo: There was a movie on TV earlier that I think you would have loved: "Body Slam." www.imdb.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:18am Julie:

It's when it doesn't move that it gets scary...leave it to me to get stuck in there at 3am
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:18am G:

Welcome to the Nightmare of Claustrophobia
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:19am G:

@Julie: Yikes!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:21am G:

I know someone who didn't use any NYU elevator for years (fortunately, worked on the 4th floor), and didn't use the subway either (the train stops in the tunnel sometimes). Fortunately over that in recent years...
  Mon. 2/4/13 2:22am Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Therese!

MK, +1.

@G the NYU elevators are hell, we're talking 25-30 people in them at the same time. I wrecked my knees walking down the stairs to avoid them. I'm not claustrophobic, but when things stop moving, I start to wonder if they will start again!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:24am BadGuyZero:

I love The Explorer Club's cover of "No Good To Cry." I hope they perform it on Michael's show this Saturday.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:25am Therese:

Thanks, MK!

Sorry that I haven't been more active here tonight. I'm over hear having elevator nightmares. And I'm awake! And I haven't taken the elevator today!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:25am KP:

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:26am BadGuyZero:

@Therese: Grab a torch and take the stairs. :)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:27am Therese:

Oh for sure, BGZ!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:27am BadGuyZero:

I do realize that with a purse and laptop and whatever else you have that stairs may not be a feasible option.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:28am amEdeo:

I was once trapped inside a bathroom, way back when I lived in a SRO. A pile of paintings fell over RIGHT in front of my bathroom door. Had to scream for help. It was not my finest of hours.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:30am G:

The person I'm mentioning got caught on an NYU elevator a few times for anywhere from a few minutes to maybe half an hour (not in Main or a classroom building), then started walking up and down four flights for about a decade (roughly the 90s). They renovated the elevators and eventually, and they got another try. They're better now. In that one building.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:31am amEdeo:

That SRO also caught on fire once while I was there.... fun times.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:32am G:

@AmEdeo: YMCA, I want to stay at the YMCA!!!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:32am KP:

This is boot gaze.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:34am amEdeo:

I used to sing that a lot!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:36am BadGuyZero:

I used to work in a building that had elevators that would stop one or two feet above or below the floor and also sometimes continue to move once the doors opened. I was terrified of those elevators [worked on the 11th floor] especially after Jerry Fuchs died. I got laid-off a few months after Jerry died so it became a non-issue.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:39am G:
