Being able to say "I really liked the latest issue of O" and quoting specific articles will help him butter up Oprah. Best way to loosen the purse strings. If you're a billionaire, why settle for an island? I say a hollowed-out volcano base or underwater base of operations like a Bond villain would be way cooler.

I suspect I might go the Diabolik route: cool mountain lair, hot supermodel lover who never wears underwear, a fleet of black and white sportscars, a round, revolving bed covered in money...

	11:37am 100% pure dc pat: last year I went on a genre quest, read Red Harvest, then watched Yojimbo followed by Fist Full of Dollars. I recommend it to everyone. Eyooo, that Opera mag was in the DJ bathroom??

	11:46am 100% pure dc pat: ngh: supposedly, (though now I'm seeing that this is disputed) Kurosawa based Yojimbo on that Hammett private eye novel.
	11:47am Caryn: Kurosawa said Yojimbo was more based on Hammett's "The Glass Key", but I think if you read both, it would be a good basis for watching the movies.
	11:49am Caryn: Of course, if you read "The Glass Key", you would then also have to watch the film versions. And "Miller's Crossing".

	11:51am Mike East: speaking of books into movies - I watched the Fincher version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Saturday, now I have to read the book to figure out which film was more faithful. I preferred the Swedish version. Good morning everyone (have i said that yet?)

	11:53am Caryn: When I headed up the university film club, I'd set up nights showing 3 movie versions of the same story or on the same theme, so these discussions are all too familiar to me.
	11:54am Bolondgomba: after I read the Quiet American from Greene I wasn't particularly interested in a cinematographic adaptation.

	11:55am Caryn: @Mike East: I'd try to track down the tv series version of the Swedish film to get the most "faithful" adaptation, if that is the main criterion. 3 hours per book.
