Listener comments!

  9:03am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Jason, what's up your sleeve today?
  9:06am
Tom G:

Heck yeah!
  9:07am
Tom G:

it must be Thur
  9:11am
Tom G:

Rise up and abandon the creeping meatball!!!
  9:13am
jason:

it is Thursday, hey hey Tom G! Hey hey DCE! There's some stuff in my sleeve but I'm not sure what it is
  9:13am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

best to get some handi-wipes and resolve that situation promptly.
  9:16am
glenn:

wouldn't sleevi wipes be more appropriate?
  9:17am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I think they only make those in New Zealand. Great sounds so far!!
  9:25am
Madi H.:

sleazi wipes
  9:29am
Cecile:

I did my good deed for today.

A coupla teenage tough girls were talking about one of their creepy boyfriends for about 15 minutes on the bus. It kept getting worse and worse - w/ him sneaking on the girl's phone and heavy-breathing to her little cousins. I said, "I apologize for butting in, but that guy sounds like an episode of ID TV waiting to happen." one girl goes, "I have to say, she ain't lying" The other goes "That's it', I'm locking my phone."
  9:31am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

good job, Cecile. I never had the guts to get involved other than giving weird looks.
  9:32am
BSI:

CAB CALLOWAY IS GOD!
  9:33am
Cecile:

It's the ADD. I have to butt in. :D

And listening to them, they sounded like they were trying to put the streets behind them - stay in school, stay in jobs.
  9:34am
dc pat:

what BSI said. I ran sound for him once. It resulted in a big upgrade for the sound system...
  9:35am
Cecile:

Do you have the Phil Alvin version of Kicking the Gong around with the Sun Ra Arkestra? I love that.
  9:35am
BSI:

@dc pat: Lucky gig, that. I'd never wash my mixer again. Longtime hero.
  9:35am
Cecile:

that's awesome, dcp.
When was that, late 80s?
  9:37am
still b/p:

Good for you for the right word offered, Cecile. If circumstances allowed, a further favor would've been to take over the bus temporarily to go find slimey-boy, run him over, then back the bus over him one more time. Then call his cell: "Can you hear me now?!" Creep bullies make me ahngry.
  9:38am
glenn:

hmmmmm. wouldn't dumping the creepy boyfriend be a better long term solution than locking her phone?
  9:40am
Cecile:

glenn, baby steps. She seemed to figure he would walk out just over that.
  9:41am
Cecile:

Some subcultures in this town, you have to be careful - it's like a small village, and as a collegue once said, you try not to get thrown out of the village.
  9:46am
dc pat:

85? 86? Wasn't the best of memories as the board/mics were cutting out during the performance. I got to talk to him for a bit though. Think I went to a hardcore show later that night...
  9:50am
Marc:

was that a remix of Pink Skull - Hot Bubblegum? I looked it up on vimeo and it sounded completely different.
  9:56am
Cecile:

dcp, that sounds like a great night.
  9:56am
BSI:

Some of Cab's early small-band stuff was practically proto-hardcore. Bad Brains-fast and tight as hell.
  9:57am
glenn:

what bsi said.
  9:58am
Cecile:

Yea, indeed.
I think those small groups of Chu Berry and Sidney Bechet are just as invigorating as hardcore, for sure.
  9:58am
glenn:

i'm kinda obsessing over fletcher henderson lately.
  9:58am
Cecile:

and you know what, they were vilified nearly as much, too.
  10:01am
dc pat:

I've been obsessing over Fletcher Christian..
  10:01am
Alicia Renee:

That Richard track was beautiful
  10:01am
Raf:

Hi Jason! Checking in for just a few moments before heading off to work. Way to play some Rene Hell earlier!
  10:02am
jason:

hey marc, that song was actually Mu -- sorry! Yeah Rene Hell all the way to the hell!
  10:03am
Byam:

Who's your Fletcher fave, Gable or Brando?
  10:04am
glenn:

do any of you musician types have an akai headrush? i want a looping pedal.
  10:04am
dc pat:

certainly not Gibson!
  10:04am
Cecile:

I can't hate George Lucas because one episode of the Young Indiana Jones chronicles featured Sidney Bechet as a lead character.
  10:06am
dc pat:

I really like Charles Laughton as Bligh so I'll go with Gable.
  10:08am
andymorphic:

mutiny was on yesterday
  10:08am
dc pat:

...and Fletcher Hanks...
  10:09am
andymorphic:

i think brando would have made a good bligh...
  10:09am
Roy:

Hi Jason, nice piece of portuguese guitar.
  10:09am
Cheri Pi:

Yes-Agali!
  10:10am
Marc:

thanks Jason
  10:10am
Raf:

Agali! This is amazing!
  10:10am
dc pat:

andymorphic: I was thinking the same thing...
  10:10am
BSI:

@Glenn: I don't, but a few noisemakers around here do. (Insect Factory has been seen with TWO in his pedal-chain) and they do seem like great drone-builders...
  10:12am
JT:

i love how the pulse of the drums was coming through the guitar pickups when he wasn't playing
  10:13am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

that is some slippery wild playing right there, son
  10:13am
andymorphic:

i watched the first half yesterday over lunch and i thought his talents were wasted as fletcher...not nearly enough indignation. although there are some great moments.
  10:14am
Raf:

Well, nothing like a little tehardent shredding to prepare a person to face the day. Later, Jason!
  10:15am
still b/p:

I just saved a few more Fletcher Hanks images to add to those saved a couple of years ago when panels were featured on Benjamin Walker playllsts.
  10:17am
Lewis:

I love this guy - did yo play this last week or did I hear it on another show - love it!
  10:20am
Lewis:

excellent segue - my productivity has plummeted in the last little bit!!
  10:21am
Cecile:

sbp. I bought both books. My husband, who loves Golden Age comics goes, "those are scary."
  10:22am
jason:

glad you're diggin it Lewis! I had yet to play the Aagali LP but I know others around the station have been digging it. You can stream the full thing here http://sahelsounds.bandcamp.com/album/takamba
  10:27am
nyc:

I fucking love Oumou Sangare!
  10:28am
dc pat:

I have to get the second one. They're amazing comics. My son really likes them. He likes the ends where the criminals get some extravagant punishment.
  10:28am
maestroso:

Yes, this set is really superb.
  10:29am
still b/p:

Hanks stuff is so freaky, fantastic, hokey and odd. I met "a shining octopus of gold" today...also HAD to save this one, which I'd like to use as my Christmas card forever:

  10:37am
Cecile:

I check in to FOTC's page once in a while, but that's it. Myspace is a drag.
  10:38am
herb:

haha, "how many people still go to myspace?" you ask. how many of us still use a fax? but for me, answer is YES. i was gonna, for inst, go to THE PIERCES myspace bec they have a mercury lounge show tonight. (oops, sold out, guess i can't see 'em)
  10:45am
BSI:

don't think i've seen a myspace page in a year or so...
  10:46am
Carmichael:

Good morning, Jason and the usual suspects.
  10:48am
Facebook, the myspace of 2015:

wikipedia: "Facebook's market growth started to stall in some regions, with the site losing 7 million active users in the United States and Canada in May 2011."
  10:49am
dc pat:

Jas: can you get all these Golden Festival recordings in one spot? looks like they're divided up by group.
  10:52am
glenn:

just wait until all those 15 year olds on f.b. start to care about all the targeted ads, data mining and privacy invasion that they are subjected to.
  10:54am
jason:

@dc pat -- search "Golden Festival" or browse these collections (one for each year...maybe we should consolidate them all into a master collection?)

BDR:

Probably too late for this show and you might not even like his music, but Morton Feldman was born 86 years ago today should that influence your playlist plans.
  10:54am
Lewis:

the workaday world beckons - excellent show this morning!
  11:02am
dc pat:

YEAH, that's what I was looking for, thanks jason!
  11:10am
osvi:

Ah, helping me get through my morning, Jason...off to work!
  11:16am
holland oats:

can i please just enjoy my morning? god!
  11:17am
BSI:

I have deployed the zippo and am waving it in the air & chanting woo, enthusiastically.
  11:17am
BSI:

...but it ended anyway...
  11:19am
BSI:

........no more apocalypse... [heavy sigh, lighter back in pocket]
  11:39am
Cecile:

That is horrible.
  11:40am
Cecile:

cutting yourself. I'm around too many people who are trying to NOT cut themselves...
  11:42am
BSI:

heh.... i'm all for a good blast of noise done by new methods, but that seems a wee bit silly. Ah well...
  11:42am
Cecile:

we almost had a car come through our garden level apartment 20 years. It took down a telephone pole. SCARY.
  11:43am
Cecile:

can you play the song about the drug farm?
  11:45am
Cecile:

20 years ago, I mean.
Woke us RIGHT the hell up.
  11:56am
Cecile:

I bet Sherman Hemsley is digging this right now.
  11:58am
glenn:

how about biters? way worse than cutters, i think.
  11:58am
still b/p:

And Sherm's gettin' hiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
  12:01pm
dinatekno:

AWESOME set!!!
  11:15pm
